It was about midday by the time that Katsumi made it to the Leaf Village. She was sent there by her father, the leader of her small village. He had ordered her to get information on the Hokage as well as the rest of the village. Her father was in agreement with Danzo to attempt to overthrow the Hokage one day. Danzo had promised to make their village one of the great ones instead of the village that had been forgotten.
"Don't mess this up Katsumi," her father had ordered her before she left their village. "You always manage to fail my expectations and this will be the last time. If you fail this mission then I will have your life. I don't care if you are my daughter or not. The Leader of the village can not have a weakling for a child. Do you understand me?" Katsumi had simply nodded even though she was tuning him out. This wasn't the first time that her father had went on a rampage and threatened her life. To her father, she was nothing but cheap labor, a punching bag, someone to blame if things go wrong, even if the real reason for the mishaps were him. Perhaps things would have been different if her mother hadn't died, she didn't know, and she didnt' waste time thinking of the 'what ifs'. She knew that her father was a power hungry moron who only wanted fame for his name and would do anything to get it. She didn't care about any of that, she only went on these missions because it got her away from the village and away from all the stares and whispers that were caused because of who she was.
This wasn't the first time that she had been in the village, the first time was for the Chuunin exams not that long ago. Everyone in the village had seemed nice enough, but she really didn't care for nice people. She believed that most people who seemed nice really weren't, they were just good at hiding their true nature. Even her father seemed nice occasionally. Anyway, she started her walk around the village when she came upon two girls arguing. She remembered them from the chuunin exams because they had faught each other. If she remembered correctly, the pink haired girl was named Sakura and the blonde girl was Ino. They were arguing over who was prettier or something. This argument made Katsumi roll her eyes and grumble. "Oh please," she said.
"What did you say?" Ino asked, turning to face Katsumi. "You heard me," Katsumi replied, her voice ice cold. "I don't know who you are, but you should keep your nose out of things that don't concern you," Ino yelled. "And you should get a personality," Katsumi retorted. Sakura stood quietly, looking from Ino to Katsumi and back. She had a feeling that this new girl could be dangerous and so she told Ino to come with her, that they could go shopping or something. Ino allowed Sakura to drag her off. Katsumi took a deep breath to calm herself. "Not cool Katsumi," she whispered to herself. She decided to stay in the village for a few days but try to remain low key and not bring more attention to herself like she had the first day.
One day she had decided to treat herself to Ramen. She was sitting there, eatting her ramen and minding her own business when a blonde guy sat down beside her. She turned to look at him and he grinned at her. He looked familiar, after a few minutes she remembered his name too. His fight was pretty impressive at the Chuunin exams, even she was impressed and it took alot to impress her.
"Hi, I'm Naruto, whats your name?" The blonde guy asked, his blue eyes sparkling. "I'm Katsumi," she replied, allowing herself to smile back. "I haven't seen you here before, are you visiting someone?" He asked. "No, I'm just traveling and thought I'd stay here for a bit to relax," she replied. They talked for a bit longer and then Katsumi excused herself for the night.
They had a few more chance encounters during her stay there, but she refused to let it get in the way of her mission to bring back secrets to her father. The last day that she was in the village, she had already packed all of her bags including the folder that contained all of the documents of her findings, she was heading out of the village when out of no where, Naruto banged into her. The collision was so hard that it knocked Katsumi down on the ground and all of the papers came out of the folder some how. "Oh I'm sorry Katsumi-chan, here let me help you pick them up!" he said and began to gather the papers before Katsumi could stop him. His eyes fell on what was on the papers as he was picking them up, and his blue eyes widened and he looked at her. "What are these?" Naruto asked? "None of your business, it doesn't concern you," Katsumi replied annoyed and grabbed the papers from him and quickly made her excape in order to head back to her village before he could stop her.
It took a whole day to make her way back to the village. She walked into her father's office and put the folder on the desk. "Here's the information that you wanted," Katsumi informed him. "It better be right, it took you too long," her father replied. "I didn't know there was a timeline," she said heatedly. "Don't get a tone with me," her father said and stood up. He walked around the desk to face her. "Its time for me to teach you a lesson Katsumi," he said and raised his hand to slap her. Katsumi closed her eyes and waited for the hit.... but it didn't come. She openned her eyes to see Naruto standing in front of her. Her father had hit him instead!
"Who are you boy, and why are you in my office?" Katsumi's father ordered. "I am Naruto Uzumaki of the Leaf Village, and I will not let you strike Katsumi." He answered. His blue eyes now ice cold.
"Naruto, what are you doing here?" Katsumi asked. "I followed you here to see what you were doing with the papers. I knew that something wrong was going on." He answered.
"If you knew that I was just spying on the village, why protect me?" Katsumi asked. "Because, I came to think of you ask a friend, and I do not let my friends get hurt, no matter what." He answered. Katsumi's father decided to use the time that Naruto was talking as a chance to attack him. Naruto faught back and managed to knock him out.
"But why defend me? No one has ever stood up for me, especially someone that I had betrayed," Katsumi replied after Naruto had defeated her father. "I told you, I've come to call you a friend. You may have delivered information about the village to your father, but that doesn't make you a bad person Katsumi. We all do things that we aren't proud of, but that doesn't make us bad people. I identify with you Katsumi, and i will not let harm come to you." Naruto said, and smiled. Katsumi found herself smiling despite herself. Naruto turned and walked away, heading toward the door to leave. Katsumi yelled for him to wait and handed him the folder of papers that she had gotten. Naruto thanked her.
"Katsumi?" he asked. "Yes Naruto?" she responded. "Want to come back to the Leaf village? There doesn't seem to be anything for you here." Katsumi was surprised that Naruto offered to let her return with him. It was true that there was nothing there for her, and infact her father would probably want to kill her when he woke. "Sure Naruto, I'll go with you for now."
