Hello. I am Chris Godfield. I was a U.S. national guardsman. I was stationed in a army base in a small town called Blue Mountain. On the mountain there was a research facility, the people I was stationed with made up rumors that they experimented on ex cons, or that they had space aliens held captive… no one really knew what was really going on.
On the day of September 4th, Which was my birthday, I was told to go to the research facility because they needed some extra help with a problem they had. At 0600 I got into the truck that was supposed to take me to the facility, the truck had me and 12 other people. I wasn’t paying attention on what they were saying but I heard some interesting things. One guy said that scientist had begun to turn up missing. I think the guys name was Paul… it could have been Peter… I never really had a time to ask. It was a 2 hour drive to their…it felt longer…I sat most of the time in a daze, but every time we hit a bump I would snap out of it.
When we arrived at the facility we found out that we were going to get help by a squad of 60 people. We were issued special hazmat suits, and some special ID cards that gave us access to any room. We were only to find the scientist. We were only supposed to kill things that presented a lethal threat. I was supposed to search the bottommost level of the research facility. I rode the elevator down with the Paul guy and the rest of the people on the truck. I guess the Paul guy was the squad leader.
Inside the hazmat suits there was a bunch of chatter from the other squads. They started to talk about the rumors. Even the people in my squad added their two cents. Half way through a story about a alien abduction from a guy in 2nd squad we heard the elevator clunk to a halt. The doors opened up into a corridor. The corridor looked like one you would see in hospitals. We looked around cautiously. It was empty, there wasn’t a person to be seen. We disembarked and started to search the rooms.
We didn’t think there would be any danger so we split up and searched the rooms casually. The first section was fine. We split up into 2 teams. I was with the team that searched the section of corridors labeled “infectious disease”. the first couple rooms were fine. Just a couple of empty beds that looked like they had someone in it recently. I went to search a room labeled “disease research & development” there was a increase in radio chatter. There was a guy in second squad freaking out because he thought he saw something. A couple minutes later the same guy said that he found someone and he was going to put him in restraints and lead him to the elevator. Then all of a sudden we heard that the person tried to attack him, and then I heard gun fire. All of a sudden the voice came back on and said that the target was down.
I left after searching the room and waited in the corridor for the rest of my squad. I heard some yell “HEY CHRIS COME OVER HERE”. It was a guy named Cole. I went to the room he was searching and walked over to him. He was staring down at what looked like a half eaten corpse of a lady. We stood there silent then out of nowhere he said “she must have been easy if she let someone do this to her”… I didn’t like him, he got what he disserved. I left him and his perverted thoughts of a guy literally eating out a girl. Then on the radio I heard the same guy who killed the so called attacker. He started to scream over his radio “ITS NOT DEAD!!!!, THE FUCKING THING IS NOT DEAD!!!!” then I heard gunshots then it went silent. His squad commander started saying “Johnson report…JOHNSON REPORT!!!…. I think we lost Johnson, Sanchez, Roberts go check on him”. Things went silent then I heard one of the guys go “holy shit. The thing got Johnson. It was eating him.” then more gunfire. Then a different voice said “ hell yeah!, headshot, that seemed to kill it. What do you think it was?” the squads leader said “ make sure that things not moving and check on Johnson.” After that I lost interest.
A couple minutes later my squad leader called the squad to meet at the elevator. So me and the Cole guy and a couple other people who I didn’t give a shit about their names walked back. Cole started to talk about the body he found. Everyone around him started to feel sick because of the amount of detail he used to describe the scene. I started to think “maybe this guy needs some help” but I just stood there ad listened.
We arrived at the elevator. The squad leader Paul said that we were to go up a level and help that squad. We all gathered in and the doors began to shut. Then suddenly we seen a figure at the end of the hall. A guy stopped the elevator. Everyone stared at the figure. It looked like a guy in a white lab coat. The squad leader started to yell at us for missing a room were this guy was. We all swarmed out of the elevator and circled the guy. He stood there, something just didn’t look right about him. He was staring at the floor in a way that we couldn’t see his eyes. He was wearing what used to be a white lab coat with a name tag on it that said Casey. We raised out guns and aimed it at the person. The Paul guy started to say to put riot cuffs on the guys and said that we were from the national guard and that he will be detained for questioning. The guy looked up, his eyes were pitch black, and he had blood all over his face. The Cole guy said “god damn boy, what were you eating?”. Cole placed his hands on the guys shoulder. The guy looked at his arm, and in a split second he moved his head down and bit down hard. When he moved his head back up, he had a giant chunk of the Cole guys arm, hazmat suit and everything. The squad opened fire and the guy fell. Cole was standing there screaming in the mic saying “he bit my arm he fucking bit my arm!!! God damn that hurt”.
Paul radioed in saying that we had a man down. The response was heard on all of our radios. We heard gunfire and a guy saying that we all had men down. Then everything went silent. Then suddenly we heard a voice of a unknown person. He said “all squads must report to the main floor. So every one gathered in the elevator for a third time. The squad medic was trying to close Coles wound and seal the hazmat suit. We head the clunk of the stopping elevator again and the doors opened up to a room full of guys in regular white hazmat suites. They escorted us into a blue tent that they had set up recently.
We walked in and removed our hazmat suites. One of the guys in the white hazmat suits noticed Coles injured arm. I’m surprised it took them so long. He had been coughing up blood and he was acting funny. The one who noticed quickly called a bunch more people and they swarmed him. They dragged him to another tent. A couple minutes later we heard gunshots. We never seen him again.
Later we seen more people arrive on the elevator. Squads of fifteen to twenty people dwindled down to six or seven people… most of them wounded. We noticed that a lot of people who came back up ended up in that other tent, and they never came out.
Me and the remaining members of the 60 national guardsmen, stayed the night in blue tent. We heard a lot of noises, strange noises. There was a lot of activity all night. Strangely we heard moaning from the other tent. Some people in our tent said that the other tent was a medical one. But people argued about the fact that there were a lot of gunshots. They went on and on. Some people started to tell stories of what went on in the lower areas of the facility. I guess that what happened to Cole also happened to a lot of people. Eventually I fell asleep. The conversations were kind of boring.
The next morning I woke up to someone shaking me awake and gunshots. The first few minutes were hazy but I seen some men in hazmat suits with M16’s shooting over at something that I couldn’t see. I managed to get my focus and seen the two men in hazmat suits get over run by a group of people that looked like some of the people they took to the other tent. I managed to get up grab my gun and run out of the blue tent. What I saw was chaos in the fullest extent. There were people biting other people. There was a Humvee in the center of it. The vehicle had a .50 cal machinegun, manning that machinegun was Paul. He was shooting everything that moved. To bad though… someone tried to run to the Humvee for safety and managed to open the door before he got token down. Poor bastard. A bunch of people ran into the Humvee. Paul was firing his gun one second the next he was screaming and getting forced down into the vehicle.
I managed to reach a group of people that were holding off the insane people. They were held up in a room that had bullet proof glass facing the rest of the research facility. The room had a control switch to open up two big warehouse doors. So person was stupid enough to flip the switch even though we all knew these people couldn’t leave the factory. The doors opened slowly and by the time someone was able to stop them from opening most of the insane people had ran out of it.
Me and the remaining people…. There was probably only 6 of use now, searched the warehouse for ammo and supplies. Also we executed a lot of the injured insane people. Well walking around I stumbled across what looked like a garage. It had one of those key card machines. I searched for my id card and realized that I had given it to the people in the hazmat. I went around searching for my id card. I found it on a dead body of a hazmat guy. I walked back to the scanner and swiped the card. The garage opened up to show to humvees just like the one the Paul guy was in. I announced this to the guys and they all gathered with theirs supplies they had gathered. I called gunny on one of the humvee and helped load supplies and climbed in.
We started to drive down the mountain into the town. We radioed the main base at the foot of the mountain to warn them of what was coming. On the radio we heard gunfire and people screaming. I guess the insane had made it to the base already. They are fast. The person on the radio was asking what happened. There was no response, just more gunfire and screams. Then it went silent. The guy tried to contact them but her got nothing.
