The next day, Draco and I walked quietly. I had wondered if I should wear the necklace he gave me. I was worried that I'd loose it but I didn't want to not wear it. In the end, I put it on at the last minute. Draco smirked, happily I hope, when he saw it. He took my hand and we started walking our normal route.
"I have to go back to school in a couple weeks," Draco said after a long silence.
"Do you?" I asked sadly. "How long?"
"Just under a month," he said.
"Oh." I couldn't believe my dream summer was going so fast.
"I'll be back at Christmas," he said. "I know it's a long ways away, but that's only five months."
"Five months too long," I muttered, which made him laugh.
"If I could take you with me I would," he said, letting go of my hand and swinging an arm around my shoulders.
"I know," I said, laying my head on his shoulder. "You could pack me in your suitcase."
"That's an idea," he said. He lifted his hand to stroke my hair.
Our walks always seemed to end too soon. Before I knew it, we were standing back at the front door of my house. Twilight was setting in and fireflies flitted around us. The moon was beginning to rise, quarter.
"I'll see you tomorrow," I said squeezing his hand. He squeezed back. "See you," he stared at me for a long moment.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing," he said quietly. I looked at my feet, uncomfortably. "Sophie," he said quietly. I looked up at him; he was still staring at me. Suddenly, his hand was at the back of my neck, pulling my forward. Our lips met in a sudden burst of passion. I waited for the moment that I would wake up and realize this was all a dream and I still hadn't said a single word to him before. Instead, he dropped his hands to my waist and mine moved up to his neck. Our tongues twisted around as we both took fist fulls of the others clothes in an obsessive craze. We both wanted more than we could get and for the first time of being with Draco, I didn’t feel self-conscious of my next move.
Finally, we broke apart, and both panting heavily. He still held me close and my hands still clenched the front of his shirt. He leaned his forehead against mine. "I have to go," he said quietly.
I nodded, trying to catch my breath. He kissed me again and disappeared into the darkness between our houses.
I stood there for a second. I knew I should be freaking out that my long-time crush just kissed me but I wanted to feel absolutely- I couldn't even think of a world to describe it. I wanted to scream and dance and sing at the top of my voice, but I wanted to stand here and be empty for just another second. At last, I turned and went inside. Fireworks, I felt fireworks.
