I'm Dead Okay? (Yuki Sohma story) Ch. 9

Tuesday. I guess it was a different mood from yesterday. While we were eating breakfast, Tohru asked if I was alright.
‘I am. Why do you ask, Tohru-chan?’
“It seemed that something upset you. You left with only a note. You were so silent at school. You didn’t even leave my room. I don’t mean to pry, but it seemed that you were upset.”
‘I wasn’t upset. Tohru-chan, I just had a lot on my mind. There’s been a few complication, and I needed to sort them all out. I fixed most of them yesterday. I apologize if I worried you yesterday.’ After breakfast, we left for school. I was the only one that didn’t feel at ease. My mind was trying to figure out my priorities. At school, I wasn’t much into the class. I mostly stared at the window. ‘Akito Sohma. You absorb all life. Before I befriend you, there’s an invisible step. You have to face the truth and accept it. It will all start when you visit.’
“Hinote-chan?” asked Tohru. It was during lunch and we were eating along with Kyo and Yuki. Only there were two more people joining us.
One has blonde, thinned out eyebrows with the other version of the girl’s uniform. The other was had black hair in a braid with matching eyes. A wave internally hit me. I realized it was Saki Hanajima, the person who might help us win this stupid war.
“Hey Tohru! Who’s your friend?” asked the blonde.
“Hi Uo-chan, Hey Hana-chan. This is Hinote no Hogosha. She’s a friend of mine since before I met you two.” said Tohru-chan. I bowed politely at them.
“Nice meeting you Hinote. I thought Hana and I were the only friends Tohru had. Who knew she had more.” I shook Uo’s and Hana’s hand. Their conversation started once again and I wasn’t feeling social at the time. Hanajima seemed confused and looked at me with a quizzical look in her eyes. I knew exactly why so I touched her arm.
‘Saki, would it be alright if I visit your home sometime this week? I have some business with you, and I would like to start as soon as possible.’ It took her a while before answering me. It always shocked people when they find out that I speak without moving my lips.
“Sure. How about Friday?” I nodded as I took back my hand.
‘Good,’ I thought. ‘I can finish by the third week. Then I can relax in the fourth. Then I have to-say my goodbyes?’ My chest prickled. I didn’t want to leave, but it’s not safe staying. Tohru should be fine without me. She has Kyo who would gladly look after her. He’s already started.
I found out that when I went to the market with Yuki, Kyo escorted Tohru to her work and back home. He enjoys being with her. He should protect her or else he’s got a whole planet against him. So those two are taken care of, but what about Yuki?
I admitted to Wister that I fell in love with him. That part is true but also that I’m not exactly mortal. When I leave, he’s gonna have to ask why. What’s my response- I’m dead okay? I don’t belong in your world since mine is at war with yours? I was forgotten when I died, even though I killed bad people? I am stuck in the middle of Heaven and Hell, where I am able to control all forms of fire and earth?
I shuttered at the thought of his reaction. I needed to distract myself-so I did the first thing that popped into my mind.
I tugged Tohru’s arm to get her attention. When I did, I asked, ‘Tohru, would you and your friends like some soda? My treat.’ Yeah I know. Ridiculous that the first thing I come up with is soda for everyone.
“Hey Tohru, what’s Hinote telling you?” asked Uo.
Tohru struggled for the right words. “Hinote-chan wonders if you guys would like some soda.”
“I thought there weren’t soda machines at school,” said Yuki. I shook my head. I pointed at myself then at a minim art at the end of the street. I was offering that I go out and buy them.
“Woah. Hinote’s the little dare devil!” teased Uo. “Sure. I’m tired of school drinks anyway.” The other’s agreed. I jumped the fence and raced to the mart.
FF to after trip.
It only took me less than ten minutes to go there and back. I handed the cans to the gang. Grape soda for Yuki, Orange soda for Kyo, Coke for Uo, a Sprite for Tohru and a Coke for Hanajima.
“A toast.” said Uo. “To Hinote, who’s able to bend rules and gives all her friends some form of break from school’s boring schedule” They all toasted as I bowed. When lunch came to an end, I felt a lot better. The whole operation was in my favor.
(Hana’s POV)
“So how do you like Tohru’s old new friend, Hinote, Hana?” asked Uo.
“She seems nice. But there is something troubling me. I didn’t sense her electric signal. It was like she wasn’t there at all.”
“Maybe you overstrained it?” offered Uo.
“Perhaps. But on Friday, she’s coming over. Maybe it will all be explained by then.”
