She left the living room, and went to the gym.
“Joe!” She yelled
“Yeah!” He replied, his voice was coming from the closet
“Going for a run, do you want to come?” She asked him
“At night?” He asked skeptically
“Yes. So do you?” She asked now agitated
“Sure.” He said
The went outside and started making their way to the path. The full moon was out, and the night was clear. They once they found it, and started down the dark path.
“How is life treating you?”Emma asked her older brother
“Fair, you?” He returned the question
“Great ever since I got here.” She stated
“How about, before you got here?” He asked, while looking at her, with very concerned eyes
“Not so good. Mom and dad had kicked me out, the whole family shunned me, and Jonathon broke up with me.” She said, with a huge sigh at the end.
“What they kicked you out!” he yelled
“Yeah.” She said quietly
“You’re living with me now. I’m not going to let my sister live on the streets.” Joe said, putting a protective around her
She looked up at him, with a huge smile, and gleaming eyes.
“Seriously?” She asked
He looked down at her, and smiled back.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.” He replied
“Yay! Thank you so much!” She yelled
She jumped up, and knocked him down.
“Ow!” He yelled “Sorry.” She replied, while laughing
“It’s good to have you here, little sis.” He said, now laughing as well
“Good to be here, bro.” She replied They stood up, and started walking again.
“So, why did you get kicked out?” Joe asked looking over at her
“My friend Becca, she hid her stash in my room, they found it, and kicked me out.” She said all in one breath
“Wow. Well, do you have anything you need to get?” Joe asked her
“No, they wouldn’t let me pack, or anything.” She replied
“Ok. We will go to HotTopic tomorrow, and some other places, and get you some stuff, and we can get some paint for the attic. We can make that your new room.” He said
“Thank you so much! You’re the best bro ever.” She said looking up at him
“I know. Why did Jonathon break up with you?” He asked, giving a look of disgust, at the name
“He thought I was cheating.” She replied
“Were you?” He asked
“No!” She said
“Oh. Well, I never liked him.” Joe said
“I know. You made that clear before you left.” She said, trying to hide the tears forming in her eyes. They then continued to walk in silence, and soon reached the end of the trail. They just turned around, and started walking back up the trail.
“I’m sorry about leaving.” He said
“It’s ok.” She said looking down
“No, it’s not.” He said
“Why did you leave?” She asked now looking at him.
“Mom, dad, pressure from school, and just life. It was all just crushing me.” He said, with looking up at the sky
“And you left me.” She said now crying
“Please don’t cry. I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He said
“No, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you feel bad.” She said “It’s ok. Want a lift?” He said, while givingEmms a huge smile She turned around, gave him a huge smile
in return and got on his back. “Don’t mind if I do.” She said, now clinging on for dear life at his neck “For me to carry you, I do need to breathe." He said, gasping for air.
“Sorry.” She said, loosening her grip around his neck.
