The Individuals

After following the thin secret hallway, Laurence entered a white room. A girl of about seventeen sat in the centre of the room. Dressed entirely in black, she had long, flowing vibrant red hair, with mystical green eyes.
"Have you come to read me a story?" She asked in a quiet voice.
"Not today Princess, no." Laurence replied, his voice shaky. She sighed. and crawled over to her bed.
"You never read me stories anymore." She pouted.
"I'm sorry Princess I truly am, next time I promise."
She gazed up at Laurence. "Promise?"
"Promise."
She grinned. "Guess what I did today Uncle Laurence?"
"What did you do today darling?"
"I had a tea party with teddy."
"You did? How nice!" Laurence exclaimed, "Betty, I need you to do me another favour."
Betty sighed, "you want me to use my talent, don't you Uncle?"
Laurence nodded. "I want you to use your talent, to see the future of this girl." He said, pulling a picture of Tiz out of his pocket. Betty nodded, and placed the picture in front of her.
"Okay Uncle, but you better read me a story next time."

Ilayed on my bed,my eyes closed, waiting for Daniel to come back, and was rather startled when he did.
"We need to leave." He said.
"What? Why?" I exclaimed.
"Because!" He yelled, "because I don't trust him Tiz! I just don't! Besides! Haven't you ever wondered what daylight looks like? Feels like? Haven't you ever wondered, what friends we could make up there?"
"But Laurence says we can't go in the sun Daniel! We'd die!" I argued, wondering what on Earth could have gotten into him.
"Exactly Laurence says! We don't know Tiz, we don't know!" Daniel yelled, he pulled me closer to him.
"I am sick of living like a rabbit in a hole Tiz." He spat. "This is not living, this, this is...oh I don't even know what it is! But I know it 'ain't right!"
I didn't know what to say, so I nodded instead, unaware of what I was agreeing to. I knew what he said was true, but didn't wish Laurence to be so horrifyingly wrong.
"What about the ghouls?" I whispered.
"Whocares about them?" Daniel asked, packinghis rucksackwith the essentials. "Besides we know how to take care of ourselves, someone else can deal with them."
I nodded again, this was all so unreal! We had lived down here, obeying Laurence's commands for seventeen years, this was our home. What were we throwing it away for? Life on the streets?
"Daniel, I'm not sure about this.."
"Well I am Tiz, and I have to do this." He swung his rucksack on his shoulder. "But I can't do it without you." He murmured, putting his hands on my waist. "Tiz, please do this for me. I don't ask for much."
Again I simply nodded, as soon as I did so, he brushed his lips against mine in a soft kiss.
"Thankyou" he whispered. "Now pack your bag, we need to get going and soon."
It didn't take long to gather the few belongings I had and stuff them in my backpack.
"Let' go." Daniel said, taking hold of my hand. As we disappeared, I couldn't help but worry, yet a simple, reassuring smile from Daniel momentarily put my thoughts at ease as we drifted through the space between worlds and the colours moved in front of my eyes.

I never found out how Laurance reacted to our disappearing that night. Either way it didn't matter, after all, it was already too late...
