Chapter 3: Vampires

Vampires are creatures who prey on humans, but appear in human form. They are generally classified in to two classes: sanguine (or blood) vampires and chi (or life force) vampires. Sanguine vampires are perhaps the most diversified class of magical creatures with the exception of the magical beetle, discussed further in chapter eighty-one (p.1205-1235).

Chapter eighty-one? thought Angelina. She was never going to finish this book. She wondered what everyone else was doing on the other side of the door. That girl, Mizuki, seemed nice, but kind of weird. Nano was a bit strange. Kevin... for some reason every time she heard his name she felt all weird inside. Normal her wouldn’t do something like this. Maybe amnesiatic her had a crush on him.

“Kai, let me go!” said Nano. Angelina jumped as the door opened and a disgruntled Nano was thrown in, followed by Kai, who promptly shut the door behind him.

“Nano, just relax.” said Kai.

“How can I relax when hellish spirits are going to be unleashed?” said Nano. He looked a tad bit insane.

“Mizuki knows what she’s doing. Kevin said so.” said Kai.

“He said ‘I think.’ Meaning, he doesn’t really know.”

“Hellish spirits?” said Angelina. “What’s going on?”

“Mizuki’s performing an exorcism on cottage girl,” said Kai. “Despite the fact that she’s never done one before, but we’re going to let her do it anyway. That does sound a bit ridiculous...”

“A bit? It’s completely ridiculous!” shrieked Nano.

“But Kevin said—”

“Kevin thought that sanguine vampires drank sand.” said Nano.

Kai paused. “Well...”

“Well, nothing.”

“So, what’s going to happen?” said Angelina.

Nano and Kai turned towards her. “It doesn’t concern you.” said Nano.

Why won’t anyone tell me what’s going on... she thought.

Suddenly the room felt like it was tilting. Angelina gripped on to the bed and Nano and Kai dropped to the floor.

“Still think I’m crazy?” said Nano clutching to the bed post. Kevin and John rushed in, shut the door behind them, and dropped to the ground.

“What’s wrong?” asked Kai.

“Can’t breathe in there,” said Kevin gasping for air.

“I knew it.” muttered Nano. He crawled to the door and entered the garage. Gravity seemed reversed on the other side: he felt weightless. He looked down and, sure enough, his feet weren’t touching the ground. He couldn’t breathe though.

There was a dark, demonic-looking hand through cottage girl’s heart. There wasn’t any blood though—more like the hand just passed through her. Mizuki, on the other hand, was bleeding vehemently. Blood was dripping from her wrists into a pool at her feet. She looked like she was praying intensely, with her hands clasped together against her forehead. Her hair had somehow gotten loose and was sort of levitating. He hadn’t noticed it but it seemed like something was screaming. Maybe the lack of air made it less loud.

The hand eventually retracted out of cottage girl holding a small, white orb. Mizuki made a downward motion, sending the hand down into the bloody jar at her feet. Nano fell to the ground. He could breathe again. Mizuki turned around, surprised.

“Eh? Weren’t you in there?” she said gesturing to the room with her hand, which upon doing, noticed that her wrists were bleeding. “Oops.”

“What do you mean ‘oops’? You’re bleeding everywhere!” said Nano getting up.

“I can see that...” she said looking around. Nano reached for her wrist to help her, but she pulled away before he could touch her.

“I’ll be fine.” she said smiling nervously and taking the bandages from him. “I didn’t know I’d alter gravity when I did that. Ha, ha...”

She walked over to the sink to wash the blood off, but almost collapsed. Nano quickly caught her. “You’re not fine.”

“Apparently not.” she murmured. She felt dizzy.

“Sit.” he said placing her on a chair. She obeyed, staring down her wrists. The sight of her own blood sickened her. It felt horrid too. Cold and sticky all over her arms. Nano kneeled down with a wet towel to wipe of the blood. It seeped through, though, and burned his skin. He dropped the towel immediately and clutched his hand.

“Oh, don’t touch it...” said Mizuki looking at him wide-eyed. “There are some gloves in the drawer next to the sink.”

Nano nodded and went to get some. Maybe it was some weird exorcism thing. He proceeded to bandage her wrists. She stared at him in a daze.

“You okay?” he asked. She nodded quickly and looked down. “Why did you have to use so much blood?”

“What you lack in skill, you make up for in blood.” mumbled Mizuki sleepily.

“Don’t pass out.” ordered Nano.

“Right, right.” she said smiling sleepily. The cuts extended from her wrists to half away up her arms. Well, since she didn’t have much skill in exorcising, he guessed she needed a lot of blood.

“What was that hand thing?” he asked.

“...reaper of souls?” said Mizuki shrugging her shoulders. “I’m not too sure. I think that’s what it is.”

“So, you summoned a demon.” stated Nano.

“Apparently so.” she said. Kai opened the door slowly.

“You done—is that blood?!” said Kai.

“Don’t touch it. Just wait a minute.” said Nano finishing tying up Mizuki’s wounds.

“Thanks,” mumbled Mizuki bowing her head. “I should clean all that up.”

“Can you stand?” asked Nano. She nodded and went to the closet to get a mop.

“Hey, is she okay?” he said pointing at cottage girl.

“Oh, right,” said Mizuki scurrying over with a mop and checking cottage girl’s pulse. “Yup, she’s alive!”

“That’s not what I meant...”

“She’ll just be unconscious for awhile.” said Mizuki clearing a path through the blood. She cut the ropes holding down cottage girl and tried to lift her up. “We should relocate her to the bedroom. Kevin, John!”

The two came in and did as she requested.

“What’d you do to her?!” said Angelina emerging from the bedroom.

“Don’t worry. She’s fine.” said Mizuki quickly mopping up the blood off the garage floor. She wanted to get rid of the nauseating mess as fast as possible.

“Then what’s all that...blood?”

“All mine.” said Mizuki smiling and holding up her bandaged arms. “She should come around in a couple minutes.”

And sure enough she did.

The girl opened her eyes and found herself surrounded by people staring at her.

“She’s awake!” yelled one of them. Why was he dressed like he was from the Matrix?

“Hi, my name’s John. What’s your name?” said another guy.

“Aurora,” said the girl. “Where am I?”

Yay! But now we can't call her cottage girl any more... tis a shame.
And now you can see what she looks like.
I present cottage girl--ahem, I mean Aurora:

She doesn't actually look that sad. She's a fairly mellow person. But in terms of hair, skin, etc, yeah.
