Chapter 2 Zacky walked back in the room with a bag of M&M’s and a Mountain Dew. “Hey.” he said. “Everything ok?” Shiana nodded. “Yeah.” she said. “Well, I think I saw my car outside. We can try and find some one that can divorce us.” Shiana stood up and pulled her hair back. “Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.” “Ok.” Zacky grabbed his jacket and keys and phone and Shiana grabbed her jacket. “Did you get a hold of your sister?” he asked. “Um, yeah.” she said, unable to hide her disappointment. Zacky gave her a suspicious look. “Well, everything go ok with her?” he pried. Shiana sighed and pushed her bangs behind her ears. “Yeah,” she said. “It’s just, I can already hear the jokes. ‘Oh, look what little Shiana went and did this time.’ ‘Nice one Shiana.’ ‘Do you ever think or does it matter if you even do?’” “I take it your sister made fun of you?” he asked. “Yeah.” she aid sighing again. “I’m not exactly the smartest girl in town. I mess things up a lot.” He smiled. Good, so she wasn’t perfect. Less to compete with for the next hour or however longer they were married. “Well hey, it’s ok.” he said. “No one’s got to know about it. I mean, I live in California and you live in Kentucky. What are the odds we run into each other again?” She smiled slightly. “Pretty small.” she admitted. “But Codi will still run her mouth about her silly little sister goin’ off and gettin’ hitched to some random guy.” Zacky grabbed her shoulder and squeezed it slightly. “It’ll be ok. You’ll get through it.” She’d been really sweet the entire time they’d been together and she seemed like a nice and trusting person in general, just misunderstood. He hated seeing her upset. She was much more beautiful when she was smiling. “Yeah.” she said. “Well, let’s go, I guess.” “Right.” They walked outside the room and turned their key in. Zacky got in the driver’s side and Shiana hopped in the passenger seat. “So, I guess we can just drive along the strip and find a lawyer or something.” “Ok.” she said. Zacky started out of the parking lot and Shiana stared at him for a second. “Thanks.” she said. “No ones ever really nice to me.” “I can’t imagine why.” he said honestly. “You’re a real sweet girl.” “Yeah, but I’m not smart like everyone else.” she explained. “Even in Kentucky people make fun of me. I try and be nice back and then maybe they’ll like me, but they never do. They just kinda walk all over me.” He glanced over at her. “Well that’s because they’re jerks.” he said. “I’ve been with you for less than 2 hours and I already know that you’re a great person. Besides, I know a lot of dumb smart people. Like my friends.” She laughed and then stopped suddenly. “Oh! I forgot to tell you. Your friend called you. Um, Shadows? I think.” “Yeah.” he said. “He’s one of them too.” She laughed again and he smiled. They drove around for an hour until they finally found a divorce lawyer. They walked in the near empty room and up to the counter. “Um, we want a divorce.” Zacky told the receptionist. She looked both of them up and down. “Have a little too much fun last night?” she asked. He smiled. “How could you tell?” he asked her. “You 2 marrying on purpose?” she asked skeptically. “Please.” Zacky glanced back at Shiana. She had on a pair of ripped jeans with dirt and grass stains and a plain white t-shirt with a brown belt to hold up her pants. Her tennis shoes were worn out and she had hardly any make up on, but yet was still absolutely stunning. Her hair was up in a simple ponytail and her bangs kept falling in front of her face. Zacky on the other hand, had on black pants with a Rancid shirt on, 2 studded belts, purple hair, snake bites, nose piercing, and tattoos. So they weren’t the most obvious couple in the world. He turned back to the receptionist. “Is there someone that can get this thing worked out?” he asked. “Yeah.” she said. “Tom Jones is in his office if you want to go in. He isn’t seeing anyone.” “Thanks.” he said smiling at her. He held his hand out for Shiana. She looked surprised at first, then took it and was led back to the office that read ‘Tom Jones’ on the opened door. “Um, hello?” A man in a suit looked up from his computer at them. “Can I help you?” he asked. Zacky walked in, pulling Shiana behind him. “We’d like to get a divorce.” he said. Tom Jones seemed very amused. “Ah! The first Vegas couple of the day.” he said. “Have a seat, please.” He motioned to the chairs in front of his desk. “So, names?” “Zachary Baker and Shiana, um, what was your last name?” he asked her. “Benson.” she said. “Shiana Benson.” Jones looked over at her. “Southern girl huh?” he asked. She nodded shyly. “Well let’s see… here you 2 are.” He clicked on something and read a bit of information. “So, get into a little more than you could handle sweetie?” he asked grinning. “Um, yeah.” she replied. “Aww, that’s alright.” he said. “I’m sure back home you’ll find you a nice country boy that can make sure you’re good and taken care of.” “Hey!” Zacky said. “That’s really not necessary asshole.” Jones looked at him shocked and Shiana blushed. “You don’t even know her and you’re making rude comments about her.” “I’m sorry?” Jones asked, still astonished that he had spoken to him that way. “Sir, if you want me to get you 2 divorced I suggest you change your tone.” “Yeah?” Zacky stood up. “Well fuck that! We’ll find someone else that isn’t a complete shit head like you. Come on Shiana.” he said, taking her hand. She looked from Tom Jones to Zacky flustered and followed him out. “Good luck with that!” Jones yelled. “I’m the only divorce atturny in Vegas!” Zacky stormed out, pulling Shiana along and got in the car. “I can’t believe that jerk.” he said. “It’s ok.” she said. “I’m used to it, really. You don’t need to be mad.” He sighed. “I guess we’re gonna be married for a little while longer than we thought.” he said. “I don’t think he was lying about being the only divorce atturny around here, as crazy as it my seem. But we didn’t see any other offices.” “Yeah.” she agreed. “Well, I’m not in any hurry I don’t guess. No matter how long we’re married, we’re still married, so…” “Well, do you want me to take you to where ever you and your sister are staying?” he asked starting the car. “Or, you could stay with me for a while until we get this all sorted out.” “Um, I really don’t want to see my sister right now.” she said. “So, only if you don’t mind…” “Of course not!” he said, “Off to meet my idiot friends. Don’t believe anything they tell you. It’s all lies.” She laughed slightly. “Ok.” They drove up to the Fairmont, the hotel Zacky and the guys were staying at and, coincidently Shiana and her sister too. “Let’s see, I think we’re on floor 5, but I’m not sure.” They rode the elevator up to floor #5 and as soon as the door opened they heard music being blasted. “Yep, this is us.” he said with a satisfied smile on his face. “Me and Codi are on floor 6.” she stated. They walked to one of the rooms with the music and Zacky banged on the door loudly. “Forgot my key.” he explained. “Guys! Open up!” he yelled. A few seconds later The Rev came to the door. “Hey! Zacky! What’s going on?! Is this your wife?!” he asked laughing. “Can you move?” he asked back. The Rev moved out of the way and examined Shiana as Zacky pulled her in the room. “She’s cute.” he stated. “Hey Zacky! Who’s that?!” Syn said grinning. “That,” Shadows said, turning the volume down. “would be Shiana.” He turned towards her. “I’m Matt. We spoke on the phone.” “Hi.” she said to him, but addressing everyone. They all waved and said ‘hi’ back. Zacky told them about how they tried to get a divorce, but the only lawyer was a jackass, so they left. The Rev walked up and put his arm around her shoulders. “Well that’s ok.” he said. She gave him a nervous smile. “That means you can hang out with us some!” “Great.” she said, inching closer to Zacky and away from The Rev. They all laughed. “Shiana, this is Jimmy aka: The Rev.” he said. “He’s a bit of an idiot, so bear with him.” He pointed to Syn. “That’s Brian, but sometimes we call him Syn. You’ve met Matt and --wait, where’s Johnny?” “He said he was going out and getting 40’s.” Syn answered, not paying much attention to his statement. Everyone stared at him a second and Shiana looked around some. “You idiot!” Matt said, smacking him over the back of his head. “Do you now remember what happened the last time he went to get 40’s by himself?!” Syn thought for a second. “Oh shit!” They all laughed and Shiana still looked around curiously. “What happened?” she asked. “He dropped one and it broke all over the floor of the convenience store.” Syn answered. “Well, might as well go down and find him. Why don’t we just go out for drinks?” “It’s not even 5.” Zacky said, looking at the clock. They al shrugged. “So?” Matt asked. “Let’s go.” “You game?” Zacky asked smiling at Shiana. She nodded. “I guess.” She smiled back and they followed the guys to the bar in the hotel. “What can I get you?” the bartender asked. “5 beers for us.” Matt said. “What’ll you have Shiana?” “Oh, nothing for me.” she said. “Thanks though.” “You sure?” She smiled. “Yeah. The last time I drank I woke up married. Who’s knows what’ll happed next.” They laughed and the bartender got their beers. Johnny joined them a little later and told them about how the guy kicked him out of the convenience store after he dropped 2 40’s. “So how old are you Shiana?” The Rev asked. “19.” she said. Matt and Syn choked on their beers and Johnny and The Rev laughed. “And you’re from the south?” Johnny asked. She nodded. “Where abouts?” “Kentucky.” she answered. “Say something with an ‘I’ in it!” Syn said. “Why?” she asked and he laughed. “What?” She looked at Zacky who was just smiling and shaking his head. “It’s the accent.” Syn said. “Say vanilla ice cream is white!” “Vanilla ice cream is white?” She smiled as he laughed some more. It wasn’t a teasing laugh, just amused. He looked at Zacky. “I like her! She’s cute!” he said. “When you 2 get divorced, can I have her?!” They all laughed, even Shiana who blushed a little. “Yeah, we like you.” Matt said. “You should move out to California with us!” “Yeah!” The Rev agreed. “I mean, you’re legal, right?! So, you can do it!” She laughed and looked down. “I don’t really have enough money to move out to California.” “You can live with me.” Zacky offered. “I mean, we ARE married, and that way you don’t have to deal with those dick wades back home.” She smiled at him warmly. “Um, I guess.” she said. “Yeah, I could do that.” “And we don’t HAVE to get divorced.” he continued. “I mean, if you want to that’s fine, but we could always try.” She laughed slightly. “I don’t see why not.” she said. “It’s not like we have anything to lose.” “Aww!” Johnny said. “Zacky’s the first to be married and have it stick!” “I’m gonna stick you if you don’t shut up!” he said and the guys laughed. “Well,” Syn said. “Welcome to the A7X family!” He playfully punched her arm and she winced. “Damn! You should work out. That hurt?” “Well, I have a bruise there.” she explained. “How’d you get it?” he asked. “Um, I don’t remember.” she said. Zacky looked at her suspiciously. She was hiding something. “How about you show us?” he asked her. She looked at him smiling, but it wasn’t the warm one from before. This one was fake. “No, I think it’s fine under my sleeve. Really.” Zacky gently grabbed her wrist and pushed her sleeve above her shoulder. He held his hand up and lightly put his palm over the bruise, fitting almost perfectly. “Is that a…” Johnny started. “…hand print.” Zacky finished looking at Shiana, who was avoiding his eyes. “When you said people walked all over you back home I didn’t know you meant literally.” “Dude, Shiana, who did that?” Syn asked, an eyebrow raised at her arm. She bit her lip and looked around. “No one.” she lied. “Was it that Dylan guy you broke up with?” Zacky asked. She hesitated than nodded slightly. “Is that why you broke up?” She sighed. “No. Well, sorta.” she said. “He asked me to marry him and I said no. He got mad and hit me again and I told him it was over…he didn’t like that very much either.” Zacky faced her directly in front of him. “Listen to me Shiana, no guy has the right to hit you. Ever. Understand?” She nodded. “Ok.” he said. “I kinda want to go back with you to get your stuff. Show this Dylan what it’s like to GET beat up.” She smiled a bit. “Thanks, but I’m ok.” she said. “Really. It’s fine. You know, in the past.” He scoffed. “You too sweet for your own good.” he said smiling. She smiled back with the warm smile he loved seeing. ‘Maybe this whole marriage thing could work out after all.’ he thought. ‘I could love Shiana eventually. I mean, hell, I don’t see how anyone who knew her couldn’t. I’m GOING to Kentucky with her and kicking her ex’s ass! And I’m not taking no for an answer on this one.’
