I was still lying awake that night incapable of sleeping. I looked slowly to my left to see that mom had the exact opposite problem. She was out like a light giving me as much time as I needed to be caught up in my own thoughts.
To keep Mitchie’s secret or not.
Dah! Keep it. I owed her that much. I wouldn’t even be a part of this family if it weren’t for here. Thinking back on it I owe her a lot. If she wouldn’t have been so gun ho on having a sister Connie wouldn’t have ever adopted me. And that’s how I got my best friend.
Unexpected the light shot on and I must have jumped 4 feet off the bed and clasped my hands over my heart when my mom started to talk.
“Ok kiddo, what’s wrong? You have been tossing and turning for half an hour now. And don’t even think you got away with out me seeing you come in here in the middle of the night. Besides I saw you leave earlier with your guitar, which your now short one. So spill.”
“It’s nothing really. Just thinking is all. You know how teenage girls can be.”
“Yes, I know how teenage girls can be which is why I’m asking. “ She replied more softly and with more concern in her voice.
“No really don’t worry I am fine. Just doing some deep thinking is all.”
“Look Christine, I know I could never replace your real mom so I can understand if you don’t want to open up to me like you would her.” She quickly moved to turn off the lamp but I stopped by speaking to quickly for me to understand what I was doing.
“Please don’t think that. You know I would and do proudly call you mom. It’s just a problem I want to solve on my own. I don’t even think I’d tell my blood family this either. It’s just a guy, you know teenage girl stuff.” I whispered the last part, which was half true, guys were involved.
“Oh, I get it. So tell me about him. Is he cute?” She asked shamelessly smiling.
“MOM!”
“Just asking. But is he?” I had to smile at that. Come on it is Jason. Lushes, dark, brown hair, fair skin. And eyes. Eyes so deep and chocolaty you could drown in them.
“Yes. Beyond belief, and he’s a guitarist my two favorite combinations.”
“So what’s wrong? He doesn’t stink does he?”
“No. he’s just different.”
“Different in a good way or different in a bad way?”
“Different as in we are not the same. I’m very complex and confused, while he’s so simple and doesn’t let a thing bother him. You know me. I don’t like simple. Every time I have to do a project I go big and all out, and I hate being confused it bothers me. I don’t stop till I understand completely. He doesn’t go all big, he just does what he does best which some how makes him huge. And if he doesn’t get something he just does not let it bother him. That is until me. He’s determined to get to know the real me. But I’m not ready show anyone but family the real me.”
‘Honey maybe it’s time you let someone see the real you. And why not this guy? If he is willing to go though all this trouble to get you maybe he’s the perfect person to understand. Maybe you’re too complicated and you need simple in your life. Who knows this could be the guy you are with for the rest of your life.”
“Two problems with that mom. I just met him a few days ago. I’m only fifteen, it’s not time for me to settle down, plus he’s 20 and about to be 21. That’s a 5 and a ½ years age different. Dad would never go for it.”
“Oh, wow that is a difference. Well if you truly love some one age doesn’t matter.”
“Thanks mom.” I couldn’t help my self I got up and hugged her. She really is a great mom.
“Now let’s go to bed. I have a big breakfast planned for tomorrow and you and Mitchie have to help.” With that we turned off the lights and I was finally able to sleep. But my dreams were invaded by a certain brown eyed guitarist, who I found myself starting to like.
JASON POV
Wow that girl is something, I thought to myself as I walked into my cabin.
Nate was sitting on his bed working on tomorrow’s lesson and Shane was playing that new song of his with a goofy smile on his face.
“Hey guys what’s up.” I asked as I took a seat on my bed.
“Not much.” Came Nate’s meager reply.
“What’s up with him?” I asked looking at Shane who still hadn’t stopped playing the song yet.
“He’s been acting like that ever since he got back from hanging out with that Mitchie girl. He said he played that song for her and they took a canoe ride.” Nate said giving me his full attention now.
“I think he’s lost it. He is acting completely nuts.”
“No more nuts than you were in class today. The way you were staring at that girl, I thought your eyes were going to pop out if you head. You should have just talked to her. She might have even given’ you the time of day if you wouldn’t have scared her off. She doesn’t seem like the other girls. You noticed she was the only girl to not play something by us. A breath of fresh air she is, and knows her way around a guitar. I mean just by looking at her you could see she was the rocker chick were ever she came from, and when I actually heard her play a got even more respect for her.”
“Hay I didn’t scare her away. Although, she is dropping the class. Well not defiantly but she’s thinking about it.”
“But you didn’t scare her away huh? Wait how do you even know this?”
“I talked to her about half an hour ago. It seems I’m not the only one who goes to the lake for peace and quite. We got to talking after I walked up on her playing a song. Get this she’s the one of the two girls were heard playing the piano when we got here.” At that Shane immediately stopped playing, “WHAT?” he asked in shock.
“She was the second girl to sing, the one who finished the whole song. But she was in such a hurry to leave she didn’t say much, just that her name was Christine and she’s a very complex person.”
“What about the other girl, did you find anything out about her?” Shane questioned.
“No she left in a hurry. But if I make nice with her and continue to prove that I’m worth being friends with I might be able to find her for you to.” I replied quickly.
“Don’t forget they called each other “Sis” so they’re either sisters or really close friends they just act like sisters.” Nate thought in.
“Don’t worry I’ll find out for you.” I assured Shane.
“I sure hope so. I really do.” He whispered. I fully intended to learn who both girls were. Not only for me but for Shane as well. And if I got to know her sister maybe I could learn more about Christine.
he's so cute.
