"WHERE'S KELVIN?" Mr. Halstrum shouted from the study.

I sighed. Kelvin was gone. What he didn't know wouldn't hurt him. Right?

I stood up and jogged up the staircase. It's best to not be there when Mr. Halstrum is angry.

I ran into my room and closed the door. I heard a faint sound as I locked the door. Would he come after me?

"What is going on?" I heard an irritated voice ask from behind me.

I spun around to see Kelvin standing in front of my open closet. Was he hiding in there?

"What did my father do to you?" He moved forward, closer to me.

I didn't move an inch as Kelvin approached cautiously. He ran his fingertips on my neck.

His eyes shot up to meet mine. "Did he do this?"

"I- I- I'm sorry." I whispered.

Kelvin pulled me into a tight hug.

I could feel his heavy breathing in my left ear. "Don't say that. It's not your fault." He pulled back and examined me with sorrowful eyes. "It's mine- isn't it?"

I looked towards the floor. Did Kelvin know?

"I'm sorry Marissa. It's just that I can't be married to you when I have such strong feelings for Alyssa. I love her." His voice softened when he said her name.

"Why?" I asked in an angered tone. "Why do you love her and not me?"

"Marissa-"

"TELL ME! WHAT MAKES HER SO SPECIAL? WHY DO YOU LOVE HER SO MUCH THAT YOU'RE WILLING TO DEFY YOUR FATHER?"

"She understands-"

"I UNDERSTAND! We're both half-vampires. Doesn't that mean anything to you. I can relate to all of your feeling. What does she, a mere human, have to offer you."

"She's warm."

I set my body ablaze. "I can be hot."

"She's passionate."

"I'm innocent!" I shouted then muttered "Who knows how many guys that she's been with."

Kelvin cringed. I shouldn't have said that.

"I can be anything you want Kelvin." My voice began to crack. "Just tell me what you want."

"I want her." He squeaked.

We stared at each other for a minute.

"Is there anything I can do to convince you otherwise?" I asked hopefully.

"No." Kelvin replied firmly.

"Fine." I strode past him and walked into the bathroom. While walking I stripped my clothes off and lowered myself into the empty tub.

I turned on the water and watched as the tub slowly filled.
