"Hey Peaches, how's your dad?" Anne asked as Lilly walked in the apartment.

"He's fine." She answered kicking her shoes off and walking through the kitchen.

"How are you?" She asked.

"Fine." She sighed, answering in the same tone as she walked through the apartment, looking for something she could do to fill the time.

"Okay." She replied, not knowing what else she could possibly say to her best friend.

Lilly walked to her room and closed the door, hoping to shut out the whole world.

For the first time ever, her room was a mess, much like her life at that moment. She wanted to break down and cry, but that was just a waste of time. What was done was done; she couldn't go back and erase anything.

She lay in her bed instead of cleaning. She wanted to go to sleep, but over the past two weeks sleeping just wasn't in her vocabulary.

She stretched before pulling her cell phone from her pocket and taking a long look at it. Usually around this time of night, Craig would be calling her; gushing about how great the show went and telling her how much he missed her and couldn't wait to see her again.

Lilly's bedroom door flung open and Anne stood in the doorway, holding her phone.

"Did you break up with Craig today?" She asked, almost panicking.

"We're on a break." She confirmed.

"Why?" Anne looked confused.

"Because, we just need to go on a break for a while." Lilly really didn't feel like getting into it.

Anne stared at her for a few minutes before leaving the room.

Lilly stood and closed her bedroom door before letting the tears flow.

Lilly denied invitations from Emily, Jen, Andrea, and even Anne to hang out, or go out to eat over the next two weeks. Frankly lately she had been denying invitations from the refrigerator to come eat.

All she ever did was go to the hospital or come home and clean every possible thing that looked like it was the least bit out of place.

Early on a Saturday night she found herself sitting in the apartment alone, staring at the blank TV from the kitchen table. In a normal situation she would have taken a ride with the girls to New York for three days to spend it with the guys; but in the case she was in she was sitting at home alone, with nothing left to clean.

She figured Craig had to have been pretty upset, considering he hadn't called her since they broke up. She wanted in the worst way to just pick up the phone and call him; just to hear his voice, but she refrained figuring that if he didn't call her it was because he didn't want to talk to her.

She was almost excited that school was coming up since she was offered a job until the school could find a full time teacher to fill it.

The sound of the house phone ringing broke Lilly from her thoughts. She immediately jumped up and ran toward the phone sitting in the living room, for a split second she thought it could be Craig.

"Hello?" She rushed to shove the white receiver to her ear.

"Hey honey, it's me." Lilly's mom replied.

"Hey." Lilly sighed, disappointed.

"I just wanted to let you know I have an appointment tomorrow, and I wanted to see if you could pick up Sophia, I've been taking her in to the hospital." She informed her daughter.

"Yeah, what time?" Lilly asked.

"Nine-thirty." She answered.

"Okay." Lilly sighed, laying down on the couch with the phone.

"I have to go, I'll talk to you tomorrow."

"Bye." Lilly hung up the phone before even hearing a good-bye.

She wasn't exactly sure what she was doing, a year prior, she'd be going about her life like she had every day since she graduated, waking up, showering, working, driving home, cooking, cleaning, and going back to bed. Then she met Craig and he took her out 5 nights a week, sometimes every night, and she was having a life, instead of a perfectly timed plan of everything through the week. Now she was wallowing in self-pity in her apartment by herself thinking about how much she missed the boy that had come into her life and turned in upside down.

She couldn't understand how one person could affect her and change her completely and she liked it. She liked it so much she missed it. The old Lilly wouldn't be worrying about any silly ideas of love.

Lilly turned over and buried her tear soaked eyes in the pillow, she was starting to hate herself more than she did to begin with.
