Worlds Collide

Chapter 3 : Saying Goodbye

Honestly, I had no clue that what happened at the end of this chapter was going to happen. I was almost done with the chapter, and then I thought, "Wow, it would be dramatic if this happened..." And so it happened. But I don't know what's gonna happen to the plot.... damn... well, enjoy anyway!

The Devil Council gave me twenty-four hours to get out of Hell and travel to the human world. They assigned me a couple special tasks to interact with mortals and get reactions. I was to go to the extremes of human emotions; make someone feel hatred, jealously, and so on. They were going to assign me a new emotion each time I completed one. Once I make a human get these feelings, I was told to take their soul so the Council could look through it. And of course, to retrieve their soul, they have to be dead first.

I walked down the grim looking dirt path to my house one last time. I looked up at the sky, which wasn’t blue and cloudy like in the mortal world, but different shades of red and purple all mixed into one another. Honestly, would miss this place. I’ve been to the parallel world plenty of times before, but I never had to leave Hell for good. I felt like I was being banned from my own home…

“What’s a pretty devil like yourself doing walking to her deathbed, the reapers house?” A voice rasped from behind me. A Greed demon, I could tell. My hood was up, concealing my vibrant pink hair, so he didn’t know that the residence he was referring to was mine.

“Trying to get away from bastards like you, that’s what.” I hate perverts. I decided not to tell him who I was just yet so I could teach him a lesson.

“C’mon baby,” He continued, following me as I walked. “Stop walking and let me see you real close up.”

“You’ll see my fist real close up if you don’t leave me the fuck alone.”

The demon who was following me suddenly appeared right in my path. He was tall, my guess was eight feet, and orange-red in color, with dark red eyes and a muscular build. But I wasn’t afraid of him at all. His expression switched from a devious grin to horror and shock as soon as he saw who he’d been hitting on.

“Kiko, I didn’t realize it was you, I… I never thought I would actually meet you in person, my apologies, I-”

“Save it.” I commanded, and he stopped talking. “Get out of my way.” He moved to the side and I continued walking down the dirt path. I could hear him apologizing even as I walked away.

After a couple more minutes of walking, I reached my house. Actually, it would be better described as a shack of sorts, run down and falling in. Jasper and I usually stayed in the cellar because it was more clean. Talk about irony…

“Hey doll, how was the meeting?” Japer questioned happily once I made my way to the basement. He was on the couch, lounging and watching the fish swim in the tank next to it.

“It sucked. They’re making me go to the human world.” I said, standing at the bottom of the staircase.

He kept watching the demon fish swim in their tank. “So what? You’ve been their lots of times.”

“No, I mean, they’re making me live there.” I explained, hearing the tone of anger in my voice, and Jasper looked over at me finally, then stood up.

“What? Why? Can’t you just say no?”

“They want me to spy on humans basically, so they can do their stupid research. What’s the point of it, anyway? Just so we can know more about them? Honestly, who gives a damn? Not me, that‘s for sure.”

“Did you tell them you didn’t want to?”

“Uh… I told them I would, because they were getting on my nerves. Once I said I would, I couldn’t just go back on my word. So they locked me into going. They gave me a day to leave.”

“Why did they pick you to go?”

“Plenty of reasons. The most obvious being that I look human.” I sighed and plopped down onto the broken in, tan couch.

Jasper turned to face me, his beady eyes looking confused and slightly mad. “I look just as human as you do.”

I looked up at him curiously. He was an Envy demon, and it was showing right now. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Well, why do you get to go to the human world all the time and none of the rest of us do?”

I shrugged dramatically. “Hmm, I don’t know, maybe because “the rest of you” don’t look human, and the news would be all over you.” I smiled sarcastically.

“Don’t rub it in my face that you’re such a celebrity around here.” Jasper countered.

“Jasper, I didn’t just decide one day that I wanted to be different. I don’t like being special, alright?” I stood up again. “I don’t like how everyone praises me like I’m their goddess, and I don’t like how the Devil Council sends me on these dumb missions to ‘conquer the human race’, okay?!”

I was about to keep lecturing, but Jasper interrupted. “Kiko, you have it better than every single one of us and all you ever do is complain. You‘re just a spoiled brat.”

I paused for a moment as we stared at each other. We’d gone over this thousands of times, and he knew that I didn’t like all the attention. He knew it, but he still continued to drill me about it.

I’m sure I must have looked pretty scary, because Jasper stopped glaring so much, and I saw regret flicker on to his face.

“Kiko, I didn’t mean that-”

“Screw you.” I walked past him, bumping shoulders on purpose, then made my way up the staircase.

He turned and watched me. “Wait, Kiko, are you leaving right now? When are you coming back?” I kept walking up the stairs, not looking at him at all. “Kiko! Listen to me!”

I used my demon powers to disappear, then reappear like lighting in front of Jasper. “What? What do you want that’s so important?”

“I’m sorry, Kiko. I didn’t mean that.”

I sighed. “Fine, apology accepted.”

“I’m gonna miss you, Kiko…”

“I’ll miss it here too. Humans are so fake, they just learn to be friendly and tr-”

I didn’t have time to finish my sentence. Because, without my permission, and much to my suprise,Jasper‘s mouth was over mine.
