When Aaron said life was just one big party for us, he wasn't exaggerating. For people like us, writers as many call us, we can do whatever we want. We go to concerts all the time, observing musicians and taking in what we know about them. We perform battles at least once a week, earning money for every performance. There are different doors around the school, special doors that lead to the writer world. Once you're there, it's all different. It's one big stage with three judges in front of you, waiting for you to perform.
Let me explain more about what happened to me, and what the heck a writer is. Before I was a writer I was normal. I went to school and had good grades, I never lied to my parents, and I had friends. I also had a talent for music. When I played guitar I felt something else, and I had thought this is what I wanted for my life: to play music. So I come to this high school and meet Aaron McCormick. When I first met him I thought I knew a heck of a lot about music. I had no idea there was an entirely different side to it.
Aaron had seen something in me, the need for music. He told me to meet him in the band room after school. So I did, and I regret it ever since (I'll get into that later): I walked down he hallway. I remember thinking this high school was so big and that I was lucky to find the place. I was never going to find the main exit when my mother came to pick me up.
Then, someone came running up from behind me, and pushed on my back in a playful manner. I turned around violently to see what caused this.
"What's up?" Aaron said casually.
"Thanks for scaring me half to death." I said sarcastically. He grinned.
"It's what I do." He waved to come follow him, and walked further down the hallway. "So, you like music?" He asked. I knew exactly what to reply.
"Yeah, it's my life." He smirked.
"We have something in common." I followed him in the band room, where there were three other boys around the ages of sixteen and seventeen waiting. All three were handsome, but it was an abnormal handsome. I shook my head, this was just the way they looked. Nothing unusual about cute musicians.
"What's up?" Aaron said casually while walking smoothly over to the boys.
"You tell us." Said the brunette. I didn't realize before, but he was the only brunette there. Aaron and the other two were blonde.
"No, Aaron." Said one of the other boys. Out of the blue, just like that. Aaron just smirked at his response.
"Look at her guys, she's got it." They all looked at me, as if examining me. I frowned.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"We want you in our band, of course." Aaron said cheerfully. I looked at him. A band? I could play guitar, but in a band with other people? I hadn't thought about that. I didn't know if I was that good.
"We didn't even discuss this." Said the same blonde again. I didn't notice until now, but the two blondes were twins. Both of them had the same look of uncertainty as they observed me.
"We don't have to discuss it." Said Aaron sternly. "Last time I checked I was lead, Pat." He glared at Aaron. They seemed to talk to each other through their eyes, as if they knew what the other was thinking.
"Sorry I haven't properly introduced myself." Said the other twin.
"My name is Chris. This is my brother" He pointed over to his twin. "Pat. Pat, come over here and introduce yourself properly." Now Pat gave that same mind reading look to Chris as he had done to Aaron.
When he did, Chris looked right back at him, and Pat's mood seem to change about the whole subject. He flashed a smile at me and said
"Hey." I didn't notice before, but the brunette was right behind him.
He said "Hi, I'm Dominic. Dom for short. I'm lead vocals." I smiled.
"Hey, I'm Ashton." All three of them stepped back when I said my name. My smile faded.
"Did I say something wrong?" I asked. These were a weird bunch of kids. Pat turned to Aaron and started glaring at him again.
"Ashton?" He asked Aaron. "Ashton? Aaron, she can't be in our band. She's-" Aaron grabbed Pat's head and turned it towards me.
"Look at her. Just look at her." Pat pushed away from Aaron, but he did examine me closely.
"She does have it." Pat said to himself. Aaron smiled even bigger than he had before.
"She's doesn't just 'have it'. She's really 'got it'. I mean, look at her. We've got to have her! It would be a sin not to at least give her the options." Ok, by now I just figured they would explain things to me later, but that didn't mean I was frustrated. What were they talking about?
"You have to explain it to her fully." Dominic said. "You can't just tell her all the good things and leave the bad out, like you did for us."
"What bad things?" I asked. Did he mean about being in the band?
"I will." Aaron waved him off. "And check this out!" Aaron ran over to an instrument case and opened it. There lay a guitar. No brand, just a guitar. Strange, right? Well, hold onto your hats because it was about to get stranger (if that was possible at this point).
