We only had a few things left to finish up with our nature song compilation. I was relieved when the bell rang. I dodged Lance and headed quickly to 5th.
AP Calculus
"What is it, a hundred degrees in here?" I asked, pulling off my jacket and shirt, leaving me in my red, u neck, long sleeved shirt.
"I still think you're wearing too much." Chace said, leaning over to me in his desk. He reluctantly straightened back up when Lauraine took a seat next to him.
I rolled my eyes.
Bryan walked to the front of the class and I immediately became attentive. Today he was wearing a thin navy blue sweater that rippled with his every ripple.
"Sup class." he greeted. I smirked at his casualness. "I'm gonna call you guys up one by one to collect your journals and you'll pull a name out of this jar to decide group members. I only have the second half of the class in here, based on alphabetical order." He took a quick glance at me and I looked down.
*Chace's POV*
What the hell? Did 'Bryan' just give Rayne the look?
I looked over to Rayne, wondering if she was seeing this, but she was just looking down at her desk.
*Rayne's POV*
I just imagined it. He's a teacher, who still thinks I'm human, so that makes the possibility of that look even less possible.
He went to sit down in his desk.
"Jennifer Andres" he called.
"I'm not sure I like that teacher so much." Chace said to me. Most of the class was now preoccupied playing games, writing notes, or listening to their mp3s. So the convo was pretty secure, but I did see Lauraine roll her eyes.
"Afraid he's out hotting you?" I teased.
He looked at me seriously, as if to say 'like anyone can out hot me.'
I smiled.
"So what don't you like about our only 'young' high school teacher?"
"He's too friendly. I mean Bryan? He still seems like some high school jock."
"You sound jealous." I said with a smirk. "Don't worry, I'm pretty sure he won't whisk Lauraine away."
He leaned back into his desk.
"Not what I was worried about." I heard him say under his breath.
----
"Lauraine Bolivantic." Bryan called.
She got up and I watched as she walked over and handed him her journal. He took it from her without even a glance and pointed to the jar. She looked at the slip and smiled, looking at Chace.
"Rayne Bolivantic." he called next.
I walked over and he looked up at me.
"Hey." I said with a smile.
"Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your hospital visit. Is everything ok?"
"Um, yea. It was just one of those human flu things." I lied.
He nodded.
"Well I'm glad to know you're okay."
I didn't respond. I just pulled a name out of the jar. Well this should be interesting.
"Chuck, Chuck Luciano."
I walked back to my desk, but not without giving Chuck a suggestive smirk. I could see his face redden, just before I sat down.
----
After Bryan finished collecting the journals, he began to further instruct.
"Ok, now everyone pair up with your partners."
I walked over to Chuck with a big smile on my face.
"Hey partner." I said.
"What're you so happy about?" he asked, annoyed.
"I'm just happy that we get to spend more time together." I said with fake enthusiasm. "I mean I have feeling you really wanna get to know me."
"Well I don't." he said. "We're not friends, in fact we're the opposite."
"Well then since you don't want my company, I take full pleasure in giving it to you."
I smiled at him.
"Alright now, I'm gonna leave it up to you guys to choose another pair to work with, while I look through these journals to see what material your groups will be working on first. So basically just do whatever until next class."
Chace and Lauraine walked over to us.
"This should be fun to watch." Lauraine said, referring to me and Chuck.
"Trust me, I have no problem entertaining." I said with a smirk directed towards Chuck.
-----
We were all sitting with our desks in a little square. I was sitting next to Lauraine. Chace was across from her and Chuck was across from me.
"So..." I said, hoping somebody would pick up and start a convo.
"So, how are you and Lance doing?" Chuck asked.
I heated up.
"We're not doing." I said. "Why, interested?"
"I'd go for Lance before I went for you." he said.
"What?" Chace and Lauraine said in unison.
"I didn't mean it like that." Chuck said, his face getting red.
I lightly laughed.
"Yea, not so good with comebacks today huh?"
"What, did he leave you for Claire? I'd expect him to use you a few more times."
Chace's head snapped towards Chuck.
"Cool it okay?"
"Wow, sluttin' it up with him too." Chuck shot.
I could feel the heat emitting from them both.
*Chace's POV*
If I did anything that would be too weird. I mean why the hell was I getting hyped up about it anyway. Besides I had a feeling Rayne wasn't gonna let him get the last word.
"The thing you should already know about me by now is that I have no shame." she said in an almost sensual way to Chuck. Yet it was filled with venom, like a sexy kind of evil. "I'm letting you know from now that I'm not one to mess with. I'll come back at you so hard that you're gonna want it and hate it all at the same time. I think you already know how that feels." She gave him a sexy look.
What the -?
Chuck looked down at his desk, seething.
*Rayne's POV*
Job well done Rayne. I didn't look at anyone else, just took out my iPod and put it on shuffle.
-----
After the bell rang, Bryan called me up to his desk.
"What's up?" I asked.
He smiled.
"Based on the journal, you know most of the chapters, and well, I was hoping you'd be able to help me with setting all this group stuff up. I mean it sounded cool in my head, but it's a lot of work, which is probably why most teachers just give you the boring crap straight from the book."
I laughed.
"Um, sure, I'd love to help, but does it have to be today? I kinda have an essay I need to finish up."
"Uh no, tomorrow after school would be cool." he said.
"Ok, tomorrow then." I said, leaving.
----
Chace stopped me outside.
"What was that all about?" he asked casually.
"He needed some help with some math stuff." I said.
We were walking in the direction of my telepathy class.
"He's the teacher. He shouldn't be asking you for help. Rayne, this guy's shady, I'm telling you."
"Thanks Chace," I said stopping and putting my hand on his shoulder. "...but I think I can handle myself." Besides I had to focus my energy on messing with Chuck. If he pushed it any further I was gonna have to go into real action.
