Chapter 6 : Chapter Five~The Power of Love~An arranged marriage to... wait, don't I know you?
Prince Andrew’s POV
It is her. Finally. After years of not seeing her, my heart pounded uncontrollably. Did she recognize me at all? I looked her up and down. She had not changed much since she was ten. Her blonde hair hung loosely down her back, her green eyes full of life.
She hesitated before taking my hand in her own. Her touch gave me butterflies. “Caitlyn Fuller.”
I looked at her once again, begging for her to recognize me, for it to be how it once was, but no such luck. Was I really erased from her mind?
She nudged her gray horse forward as I turned Presley to follow her. I snuck glances at her when she looked down at her horse’s neck or turned her head to look at the forest.
Caitlyn’s POV
Why does he keep looking at me like that? I mean, yes, he looked familiar at first, but that’s probably just because I’ve seen him on TV or something. I bit my lip, feeling very self-conscious. I fumbled with Maggie’s reins before saying, “So…”
He looked at me again, and there – another flash of familiarization, like remembering an imaginary friend. “When did you arrive?”
“Just got here.”
He nodded and looked forward again. This time, I snuck a glance at him. He had curly dark brown hair, and light blue eyes that seemed to scream at me that I knew him from someplace. My stomach gave a jump as his eyes slid to mine and he gave me a half-smile.
“Do I know you?” I blurted out before I could change my mind.
He grinned and replied, “I don’t know. Do you?” and nudged his horse into a fast canter, almost a gallop.
I laughed and squeezed Maggie forward, which was all she needed to spring forward into a gallop. I caught up to Andrew’s horse in record time and grinned at him. He laughed back.
Up ahead, I could see a wide log, about three feet high, in the middle of the trail. I slowed Maggie slightly and pointed her toward it. She pricked her ears and, without hesitation, popped over it as if it were an 18-inch vertical. I pulled her up on the other side just in time to see Andrew’s horse fly over it as well. He grinned at me in midair and landed lightly beside me.
In about an hour, we were clattering back into the stables, talking and laughing as if we had known each other for all of our lives. Every time I looked at him, my stomach fluttered and my heart gave a jump. Two stable boys were cleaning out the stalls as we dismounted and led the horses in. The smiled at us, bowed slightly, and continued with their work. I led Maggie into her stall and untacked her quickly before quietly approaching Andrew’s horse’s stall.
“I know, buddy,” I heard him whispering to the horse, his voice choked a bit with tears. “She doesn’t recognize me. I can’t believe that I escaped her mind so fast. I thought I meant a little more to her than that.” I realized that Andrew was crying. Quietly, I left the stables, knowing that if he knew what I had heard, he would feel ashamed.
