Talking to Nick at breakfast didn't go over all that well. It's hard to talk to someone that books it out of the mess hall before you get there. Kevin and Joe were having a laugh at Nick grabbing toast and leaving with a few buddies. "I can't believe I'm friends with you two. That's so mean." "Yeah, and pretending you'd date him over me isn't rude or anything." I rolled my eyes at Kevin's disgusting display of conceit. "For your information mister 'I've had almost every girl at Greater White Oakes' I wasn't pretending. I'd date Nick way before I'd even begin to think about you that way. You're an asshole." It's funny how a huge packed building gets really quiet at the wrong moments. "Eat your food this isn't a fucking soap opera." I stormed out of one of the side doors and headed for the lake, seeing as that's where I'd be heading after breakfast anyway.
If I didn't know better I'd say you were hitting on me.
"You're gonna be so pissed you didn't stick around a good ten minutes."
"And why is that?" I asked.
"Ransom gave your brother a piece of her mind. And that piece of her mind said something along the lines of 'I'd date Nick before I even began to think of you that way. You're an asshole.' "
"Guys, trying to make me feel better with some stupid story isn't helping."
I've only been talking to these guys for a month. They're probably the type to make shit like that up, ya know?
"We're not lying, we swear. Ask anyone. People have been making fun of Kevin's pissed/embarrassed expression since the bell."
"Doubt it."
I haven't laughed this hard in a really long time. The girls just gave me the rundown of what happened after I left, and I swear I'm in tears.
"He deserved to be put in his place."
We dropped our topic of conversation and stifled our giggles when a pissed off Kevin Jonas arrived. He ignored my group, and was rather on edge if I do say so myself.

"Can't be mad at me forever."
"Do you know how fucking embarrassing that was?"
"Yeah, because causing two tables full of people to laugh at your younger brother isn't embarrassing for him or anything."
"I said I was sorry."
"What good is saying sorry to me for embarrassing him gonna do? Think sometimes Kev, it's a good feeling."
If I said not having Kevin to be all stupid and flirty with for twenty minutes was fun, I'd be lying to you. I was kind of upset with myself for freaking out on him like that.
"I'll talk to him at lunch. I'll have him on my good side, and my favorite camper back."
"If I didn't know better I'd say you were hitting on me."
"...I am."
And why doesn't that surprise me?
"Nicky....oh little brother of mine."
I ignored Kevin's voice, and kept my face hidden in a book. Most people go do something at free hour. I rather stay here and not get made fun of for being a dork.
"Mad at me?"
"Obviously."
"Bet you enjoyed the 'Ransom put Kevin in his place' story then."
I closed my book and stuffed it under my pillow.
"I guess...I'd love to hear it from your point of view though."
"I came to apologize, don't push it."
"Fine."
Kevin was getting ready to leave, but I had to ask him if the version of the breakfast story I heard was true.
"She really said she'd date me over you?"
"And then called me an asshole, yeah."
There's hope for me yet.
