Lacrosse had just started and it was hell! Coach was so hard on Kim, she didn’t play the position she wanted, and worst of all she was the only lefty on the team. Kim just couldn’t wait to get home an ice her bumps and bruises. She didn’t even go to her varsity locker to change and get her books. Chemistry and geometry homework could wait till homeroom to do, as far as Kim was concerned.
So needless to say, Kim was a little more than ticked off when all of a sudden she was pulled backstage while walking down the hall in an effort to escape this man made hell.
“Guess who??” a deep voice whispered.
Kim recognized that voice anywhere and resisted her urge to elbow this person in the stomach. She took the hands off of her eyes and turned to see a set of blazing blue eyes staring back at her. It was the one and only Lucas.
Now you can’t really get the full affect of this story without knowing Kim and Lucas’s history. See, Kim is a freshman and Lucas is a junior. Lucas is one of the artsy types whereas Kim’s more of a cross between preppy and sporty. Now they’ve know each other for a few years and have never be quite able to figure out their feelings for one another. Like they have each had other relationships but they were always each other’s number 1. I guess that’s why their relationships never lasted very long. All of Kim’s friends completely adored Lucas and thought that he would totally in love with Kim but she always denied it. I guess Kim was afraid that if she admitted to herself that Lucas liked her, than she would also have to admit to herself that she liked Lucas and she was NOT ready to loose a great friendship over something as stupid as a high school sweetheart.
Well, back to the conversation backstage. Kim would have been livid at anyone who had gotten in her way to get home except Lucas. Lucas was different. She could talk to him about anything and feel completely comfortable. He was like the brother she didn’t have. Needless to say she couldn’t be mad.
“Hey what’s up Lucas? I like never see you anymore!!” Kim said so happily that it even shocked her.
“I no it totally sucks!!” Lucas replied.
“Ditto” Kim agreed.
They both started to laugh. Lucas started to lead Kim closer to the center of the curtain.
“Sooo” Kim said “Why are you here so late after school? I didn’t think that stage crew started till next Friday?”
“It doesn’t. Actually I was waiting for you.” Lucas said looking down at his feet. A wave of insecurity had obviously just passed over him
“Why what for?” Kim said.
“Well you see, the thing is,” Lucas stammered shifting his weight from one foot to the other, “Well I don’t know how to put this…” Lucas started to rub his neck nervously, obviously searching for something to say.
“Lucas….” Kim whispered.
Then suddenly Lucas scoped Kim off her feet and kissed her with such this passion that Kim had never seen. And with that one sign of affection, Kim now knew the reason for a lifetime of friendship. Lucas and her were meant to be. It was written in the stars. It was density.
Now Lucas, being 2 years older than Kim, did have girls his own age who liked him. He had one particular girl who focused all her attention on making Lucas hers. Her name was Jenifer.
Jenifer was the head rockette and it was her job to open the stage curtain so the team could practice. When she opened it all she saw was Lucas and Kim kissing. Her mouth dropped in awe. How could he, the hottest kid in the grade, pick a freshman over her? She was head rockette! She was the most popular! She was the hottest!
And not only that. Jenifer got everything she wanted. She was the definition of Queen Bee. Every guy wanted her and every girl wanted to be her. Now everyone knew that Jenifer wanted Lucas in her bed and that made Lucas off limits for practically the whole high school.
“LUCAS!! What is this?? You and this, this freshman!!” Jenifer screamed so shocked that the whole auditorium went silent. This was crazy! This was insane! Not only was Lucas suppose to be hers and he was now making out with someone else, he was doing it with Kim the freshman and the whole rockette team had to be there to witness her humiliation.
Lucas and Kim separated at the obvious interruption.
“Oo hey Jenifer” Lucas calmly said, as if Jenifer had not just caught him and Kim making out and was now screaming at the top of her lungs.
“Lucas I thought that you liked me?” Jenifer shrilly screeched.
“How would any guy choose a girl like you over someone like Kim?” Lucas replied.
And he walked away with Kim. Not a doubt in his mind about his decision.
