Psychic: Book 1; Penelope 01

This story is set in a very different world, where Vampires dictate everything. There is no hope for the humans, except for five people, psychics actually. They must find their leader, who in turn must work with a higher power to put an end to a war in which she, a witch, two princes, and a King must work together. This is a story about love, war, and friendship. And how one of the hardest hearts was melted, by a girl from the race he hated the most.

The world we live in, is very different from your own… Here, humans are not at the top of the food chain, in fact, we’re lower than low. First come the vampires, then the demons, lycans, elves, werewolves, shape-shifters/witches, and then us, the majority of the minority. But for some of us humans, we have a gift. There are a grand total of five of us who possess the same gift as I, the only difference is that I’m supposed to be the leader, because I possess all the talents. I see things before they happen, I can move things with my mind, control people, read their minds, teleport, predict the future, and I have a knack for tarot cards.

I have never met the other four, but I feel I shall in the near future, it is my destiny, although I am not one who would believe in destiny entirely. I believe in making your own destiny, and that you can change it if you wish, and there are three others who believe that with me. We are called the, ‘Purple Rose,’ rarely are they found except for in my garden. My grandmother says it was always that way, and only those with magic can actually see them from the outside. It is our job to help humans, so they only see it when we leave them after we have completed our mission.

In my group, we have the oldest, Prince Darien. He holds my necklace, the key to all my power, but I do not complain, because he keeps it safe for me. He is not our leader, or a bad man, even though both me and Prince Alexios should loathe him. He is not to inherit though, because his father decided that the youngest should inherit, and that is his brother Damien. The identical twin, and he is said to be far more sinister, and hates humans with extreme passion. I have never met him, and nor do I plan to, but it could be inevitable, for I have foreseen a meeting with him. I’m in a parking lot, and surrounded by many vampires. He and another man are directly in front of me, but I cannot tell who it is.

Prince Alexios, is to be the next King of the Lycans, when the King of old dies. Alexios holds the man in high regard and loves him like a father, for a vampire drained his own father. The Vampire King in exact terms. And these two boys are my boys. We are always together since their identities can be and are kept secret from other humans. The humans would never find out, especially because our curfew is six, and those who wish to die, break the rules.

I dreamt again, and saw her face. She haunts my dreams, night after night. When I close my eyes, she is there, and when I open them, she is gone. It is not mere coincidence that I keep seeing this woman. I have seen her now for a good two years now. It started every so often, but now it is stronger. I can’t help but to question who she is. In my dreams, she wears a white dress, plain with short sleeves, like a nightdress all the way down to the floor. She is in a forest each time, the light shining from behind her, giving her this angelic look. Although I have seen her before, I easily forget her face. All that haunts me, are her light purple eyes.

I have never told my dream to my best friend, although he always confides in me, maybe because I am not sure if she is human, or if she is a witch like me. Being a fire witch, she would have to have red hair, and green eyes, and a wild temper, but when I think of her, I cannot see her as I fire witch like me, nor an ice witch. Maybe a normal witch, for she does not have the hair to be an ice witch. Her hair is not short, it is long, maybe just down to her breast.

For some reason, I cannot help but think of this woman in situations, I force her in, if you understand what I say. She gives me this feeling, and I want to satisfy my thirst, but I can’t. Maybe she is my Chosen. Everyone with magical capability, or who is immortal has a chosen, which are usually human. It is a little saddening that humans get no respect, and when a vampire discovers that their Chosen may be a human, it is usually too late, and they have to wait again for their Chosen.

“My Lord Gabriel,” I hear a voice say. It is a maid, no older than ten years, and she is a shape-shifter, I can tell by her eyes, although it is evident that she cannot change form, yet. It does not surprise me that they keep shape-shifters here because shape-shifters are the most loyal, although they are tricky devils. I turn to stare at the girl and see that her blonde hair is now short and black, and that she is a boy now. “Prince Damien requests your presence in the Dining Room.” He does not request, he demands.

She is back to the little girl now, and it is definite that she does not control the changes made. With a wave of my hand, she leaves, and with the snap of my fingers, I am in the Dining Room, all dressed and clean in nothing but a pair of torn jeans, a white t-shirt with a black zip-up hoodie, sporting Jack Skellington upon the back. My shoes are checkered black-and white vans, and I am in a bloodied room, no cleaner then the last time I was in here. “Good morning, Damien, did you eat well?”

I fed off the human. He had been beaten up so badly, I could smell him before I saw him. He had murdered one of the guards for feeding off of his daughter, drove a silver cross threw his heart, one, which should have been discarded. She had what was coming to her, out at the time of 6:01. It was against the rules, and those who do not listen, are punished. I care not for humans, they are like a walking disease, and they are useless. I cannot believe that I am even related to that Human lover. He is a pathetic excuse just like the ones he cares for.

When I am king, I will get rid of him first, then I’ll wipe out all the humans, but when I think back on it, my mother was a human. And although my father was a vampire, he loved her till the end because she was his chosen. He told me about how he was to slay her when his heart began to beat. It in turn caused him to reflect, thinking about all the others he had killed, wondering if they too were other vampires, or immortals, heck even witches and shape-shifters Chosen’s. Now he doesn’t kill, he merely takes what is necessary and refrigerates the rest.

He tells me he was like me at one point, so he doesn’t blame me, and that I’d change soon enough. ME. And I know he loves my older brother more, although he would never say it. I can tell from the way he watches my brother with a sense of achievement. The asshole moved out and lives among the humans, I hear he hangs out with a girl and a Lycan. When I tell my father the news, he does not care, only shows a small smile which lasts for half a millisecond, but I still see it, and I hate him more.

“Good morning Prince Damien, did you eat well?” a familiar voice asked. My best friend in the world, and no I am not gay. I found him half-dead, I would have thought it human had he not beat me up when I was about to touch him. His fire red eyes caught me, and I took him in. he was accepted by everyone, but he had no one except for me. I know him like the back of my hand, the same way he knows me. He is the sarcastic kind, but a great man all the same.

I smirked at him, he had on an expressionless face I saw often. Rolling his eyes. Ignoring his statement for I knew he did not want an answer I asked, “How would you like to go into town?” I did not go often for the stench of humans and lycans and werewolves were everywhere. “And to what do I owe this pleasure?” he asked, voice dripping with sarcasm. “I wanted to see my brother.” I smirked, he shot me a look saying, ‘Oh’. His eyebrow was raised and his interest peaked.

I sat there watching my crystal ball, looking for anything, but I received nothing. My black hair was tied back in a ponytail, the usually way I kept it, and since my powers were activated, my eyes were a dark purple. I licked my full lips before sighing and deciding to give up. Picking up the velvet purple pillow I had set on the floor earlier, gently, I placed the crystal ball back in it’s original home on my bookshelf. My bookshelf, which it should not be called, held everything except for books. It had tarot cards, pictures, my crystal ball, a camera, and an empty velvet box in which I used to keep my necklace.

It was a day like today, when I wished I had never let him take it for safe-keeping, but then again, I may have almost shattered it again, causing my death, or the death of my ability. He did not want to risk it, so he kept it, limiting my powers to that of those who’d follow me if I found them, or if they found me. Moving on, what I had been looking for was another job. Something is picking away at my mind, and I want to know why. The hour was 8:30 pm, and I knew if I left, that I’d get into major trouble. It’s not like I hadn’t snuck out before, but this time, I felt it was going to be very different.

The vampire guards would be switching now, giving me five minutes to get to the store and back. Clyde knows me well and has my usual already set up, a pork bun with green tea. He is one of the greatest people I’ve ever met, and for an ice witch, he sure loves hot tea. I’ll let them all know that I’m going to ‘Groove’ right now, but the funniest thing, is that I have a feeling, someone dangerous loves that place as much as I do. ‘I’m on my way to ‘Groove,’ all message you when I get there and back.’ They do not respond for some reason, although I think I heard Clyde say, ‘Bad wind is coming, it may be best to stay indoors.’

~ Psychic ~

It was interesting that he choose to eat at a place called ‘Groove’. I have been here once with him, but since we don’t come to town often, I don’t feel comfortable here. I can tell the man behind the counter wants us gone. He keeps watching the door, waiting for someone, or something to appear. It is not my business, but Damien seems to hate the hostility he thinks he’s being shown. “Calm down.” I said, feeling the heat of his anger as he ate a slice of blood cake, and had a glass of blood-beer. I was both fascinated and disturbed by this place. “Who does that witch, think he is.” He snarled at me.

I raised an eyebrow at his choice of words., and the way he said them. “That is not a question.” I said, confused by what he meant at that moment, and both of us were about to say something when she came in. A beautiful girl, young, with curly black hair, tied back in a ponytail, and light purple eyes. I accidentally gasped, earning her attention this way. Her eyes widened a bit, and she quickly turned back to her business and sat at the bar stool by the owner.

I saw a smirk form on Damien’s face as he eyed the girl. Most humans weren’t worth two glances, and although everything about her screamed human, her beauty seemed unreal. “I told you not to come today, we have, palace guests.” We both heard him whisper. “Fucking human. I don’t think I’ve had enough bloodshed today actually” Damien said with a demonic grin on his face revealing two long canines. I shot him a glare to which he noticed, earning me, my signature ‘Oh’ look. He smirked, “Love at first sight.” He taunted, standing up and walking towards her.

“Nice knowing you kid.” He whispered. She said nothing, only kept eating, when his eyes widened. “Don’t.” he whispered, earning him a funny look from the both of us. Roughly, Darien grabbed the girl’s ponytail and yanked it back, causing her to choke on her food. “It’ way past curfew bitch.” He said, dragging her out of the shop, although she did not scream or cry, she simply let herself be dragged. Into the middle of parking lot, he hurled her, causing some of her flesh to get scratched off.

For some reason, I did not want to see this. “Damien.” I said, before I even thought it through. He glared at me. “Going soft on mortals now?” he sneered with so much venom. I shook my head no, but watched as the girl stood up. Suddenly, vampires, to make sure that the girl did not escape Prince Damien, circled us all. They stood watch, like vultures, as Damien began to advance towards the girl. “Who are you, to defy our orders?” Damien asked, his voice filled wit anger and venom.

She looked up and said, “I know a man who looks just like you.” I saw his arm twitch, and he went to slap her when another arm caught his own. “You wouldn’t dare hit my little Penny, now would you? Bloodsucker.” A voice sneered. It was a lycan, taller then everyone, but not by much. The vampires were about to move to attack him when another voice rang out, “Heel boy.” I had heard this voice few times before, but it had never been cheery, and as happy as it sounded now. “Heel?” the lycan asked turning to glare at the intruder. “It’s better then sit, isn’t it.” Prince Darien said.

~ Psychic ~

She was mad, I could tell. We left her alone far too long, and since she had been using her ball earlier, she’s more drained then usual. She couldn’t teleport if she wanted to, and she definitely couldn’t run. Not only and we faster, we’re also stronger then her. I guess it’s easy to forget when the last time we saw her, she was making at least thirty people, werewolves, to be exact, murder each other. Since he’s higher up on the food chain and doesn’t turn into a sappy little dog like the werewolves, I don’t think Alexios minded much.

Brother.” Damien spat, like it was an ill taste upon his tongue. “Is this, dog, yours?” he asked, “No. He belongs to no one.” I said, a smirk plastered on my face, I joined the inside of the circle, and wrapped my arms protectively around Penny. ‘I swear I could murder you’ she entered my thoughts, although her face remained the same. “I love you too, Penny.” I said aloud, throwing many off. Not all vampires can read minds, in fact, they can only read minds if they’ve tasted the person’s blood.

“Alexios.” She said aloud this time, her gentle, and sweet voice filling the silent and tense air. Alexios made a face, before totally letting go of my twin brother. “Only for you babe.” He said, joining our little protective mush. “She’s breaking laws, she needs to be punished.” Damien said, “Isn’t that right, Gabriel?” The red head behind my brother said nothing, but folded his arms in front of his chest. I noticed his eyes did not leave her.

“You think you could?” I asked. They knew of what I referred, but all the others didn’t. “Without it, I run out quickly.” She responded. “How far?” I asked. ‘Maybe my house, no farther.’ “That is not far enough.” Alexios said. “Hand her here brother, she needs to be punished.” He said, walking towards us. Then, I saw her eyes begin to turn a darker shade of purple, and in a flash, we vanished. We were in darkness for few seconds, before the color purple began to take form.

~ Psychic ~

I was angry, and Gabriel was not helping a bit. I was angered by the fact that I did not make that human suffer, I was actually soft on her, because she was so beautiful, but now I think she is not a human, although she reeks of one. Her eyes became darker, right before all three of them vanished into thin air. Their conversation makes little sense now, but I am angry because I still do not fully understand. “I think my father would know.” I said, standing up from the sofa and exiting the room. We had been playing some sort of game, it was always random each time.

I quickly ran to my father’s study and knocked three times, waiting for him to let me in. “enter.” He said, although his voice sounded young and full of wisdom, it was definitely tired, he was old, 3,000 to be exact. His time was almost up, no vampire has live the longer. He says he wishes he were older so he’d have seen the Neolithic Revolution up until the fall of Egypt. He said he had always had a thing for Egyptians, and sometimes wished that my mother had been one.

“I know what you are here for, so do not waste breath. Interesting girl she is that Penelope. Lives with her grandmother, and supposedly the new queen of the psychics. Your brother know this, so he wants to keep her safe, since if she somehow ends up corrupted, everyone and everything could be in danger. Since he has her necklace, he has weakened her power by 9/10. She is in her weakest state although she could still do horrible things, if she doesn’t work herself to the point of exhaustion. He keeps her safe because he loves her, even though she is not his to love.” His father said.

“He should just kill the bitch, and get it over with.” I said. “He also keeps her alive because in her death, she can be reborn, with a hatred.” King Rysan stared at his son for a long time. “I only have two things to say to you my son. One, do not kill her, for in doing so, you are killing your best friend and the world, and two. Do not kill your brother.” “And why the hell not!” “I will tell you no more. You have three months, approximately 93 days, before you are crowned King, and at the end of it all, a war will break out. One way or another, it will. Between whom, I do not know, but those three and your best friend, will be needed to win.”
