"Hello, Riley."
I had been cornered by vampires before, but this voice made my heart nearly fall out of my mouth and my legs tothreaten to collapse when I jumped up. I felt for the cross in my back pocket. My eyes widened in horror when I realized it wasn't there. I was defensless.
The vampire was the same one that I had seen at the carnival. Black eyes, cold, hard, staring. It sent shivers up and down my spine. His black hair was slicked back, similiar to the Phantom of the Opera's. He took slow, meangful steps toward me. Stalking his prey. A picture of a lion preparing to pounce on a gazelle flashed across my face.
"Scared?" He asked. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. I thought a vampire slayer would be more prepared." He was by my side in a second, and only then did I realized that I was pressed into the corner of the room. There was no furniture here? Hm. His face was by my ear as he whispered, his voice lethal.
"I am going to kill you now, Riley," He hissed. "I am going to suck your blood until you whither like a prune. I will stomp on your body and tear it to shreds...like a peice of paper, wouldn't you say? Defenseless. You're just a human. What can you do to me?" He cackled.
"I can kill you," I countered. My voice was shaking, along with my legs, as my mind raced to figure out a solution.
"With what?" He argued. "This?" He pulled my cross necklace from his raincoat pocket and dangled it in my face. I reached for it, but he shoved it back in place. I growled. I wasn't going to play keep-away like a kitten for much longer.
"Goodbye, Riley."
He leaned down and bit into my flesh before I had a chance to act. I didn't scream, for I had been bitten before. I knew what it felt like.
My vision blurred. He was taking it away too fast. I was going to pass out.
FIGHT. I HAVE TO FIGHT. SPENCER!
I tried to shove him off, but I was much too weak, even with all of my blood it wouldn't have worked. I was wasting time.
Spencer, Spencer, Spencer, Spencer....
The image of his face in my mind was the only lifeline I had.
I jerked away, but it only caused a bigger gash to form on my neck. I screamed.
"Spencer!" I called. Yes! That was giving me power. Say it more, dammit!
But I couldn't find my lips. Where did they go?
"Spencer.." There they are. Fight!
I crouched like I was sitting down. That caused his teeth to leave my neck momentarily.
Most of my vision returned, but not much. FIGHT.
I ran to the door. Fight, Spencer, fight, Spencer..
I never made it. I fell to the ground in a heap, and blackness took over me.
