Night, Ice, and I groaned.

“That’s right, young ones.” Merlin told us. “Magic. I am to train you with a simple supply of magic before passing you on with some more studies somewhere else.”

Oh great, more to come.

“All right, let’s get started.” Merlin said. “Let’s start with the simplest spell. Fire.”

Ice looked over at Merlin. “Fire?” she asked in a meek voice.

“Yes, dear, fire. It’s very simple, all you have to do is point your Keyblade at one of the targets and yell ‘Fire!’ and it should work.”

She swallowed. “Okay.”

“Come on now, you three, try it.”

The three of us summoned our Keyblades. Night had one, Ice had one, and I had one. Well, actually, Ice had two, but at the moment she was only using one. Night also had two, but you rarely saw her take out her other one. I think I have two too, but I’m not sure how to make connection with it.

Suddenly, the still furniture, started moving around.

“Are those the targets?” Night asked.

Merlin nodded. “Try the spell on one of them.”

Night shrugged and pointed. “Fire!” she shouted. A fireball came out of her Keyblade and hit a chair.

“Very good.”

Night smiled and held her Key at her side.

“Next.”

I held up my Keyblade and pointed at a moving dresser. “Fire!” I yelled. A fireball flew out and reached its target.

“Good job.”

I lowered my Key and looked over at Ice.

“Your turn, Ice.”

Ice took a deep breath and slowly let it out. She pointed her Keyblade. “Fire!” she exclaimed. Successfully a fireball came out, unfortunately, it was out of control.

It didn’t hit its target, instead it went flying all over the place.

I ducked hoping not to get hit by it.

The fire was bouncing off of everything, not hitting a direct thing or person.

Finally, Merlin stopped it by putting it out somehow.

We all looked at Ice.

She was biting her lip with a worried look on her face. “I’m sorry!” she said. “When it comes to fire, I’m can’t really, uh… work with it.”

“Oh! I see!” Merlin said. “You’re the opposite element, are you not?”

Ice nodded. “Yes, I control water and ice. Fire’s my enemy.”

“Well, then, I guess no more fire spell for you.” Merlin chuckled. “Okay, onto the next spell. This one should be pretty easy too. Blizzard.”

“Do we do the same thing again?” Night asked.

Merlin nodded. “Point and say ‘Blizzard’.”

Night nodded once. She picked a target and pointed. “Blizzard!” she shouted. An ice crystal came out and hit her target. “Cool!”

Merlin nodded. “Air…”

I pointed at a new target. “Blizzard!” I yelled. Same thing happened, an ice crystal shot from my Key and got its target.

“Ice…”

Ice, with a little bit more confidence, aimed at her target. “Blizzard!” she exclaimed, and made a successful shot. Actually, the ice crystal seemed even more powerful than Night’s and mine.

“Very nice, Ice.” Merlin said and gave a small clap.

Ice smiled.

“Okay, onto the next spell. Lightning.”

I smiled. Yes!

“This time, instead of pointing at your target, you will point up and say ‘Lightning’. Okay, Night, have it a go.”

Night nodded and lifted her Keyblade, pointing up. “Lightning!” she shouted. Rays of lightning shot out and struck lots of the furniture.

Unfortunately that wasn’t the only thing it struck.

Ice got a small ray of lightning that sent a shock through her. “Yow!” she shrieked.

I quickly removed most of the shock from her with a small twist of my wrist. “Are you okay?” I asked her.

She nodded, shaking the sense off.

“Good, Air, how about you?” Merlin said.

I pointed my Key up. “Lightning!” I yelled. Rays of lightning shot, only with twice the power in them.

One got Ice. “Ouch!” she squealed.

Again, I quickly tried to remove most of the shock from her. “Sorry.”

“That’s alright.” The shock had been harsher this time.

“Wonderful, Ice, your turn.” Merlin said.

Ice quickly shook herself off, then pointed her Keyblade upwards. “Lightning!” she exclaimed.

All of the rays came out, but I could tell that half of them were going to go back into Ice. I quickly ran over to her and touched her hand that held the Keyblade.

As the rays went back into her, as I predicted, I sucked the power of them into me, taking most of the shock.

Ice still got some, but not as much as she would have. “Dang it!” she complained. “That hurts!”

I took my hand off and shook it from the shock.

“Oh, sorry, did it hurt you?”

I shook my head. “Just stung a little. I was worried it was gonna hurt you more.”

Night shook her head disappointingly. “You attract lightning easily.” she said.

Ice and I got the message behind what she said. We glared at her.

“Ah, yes, I see how that’s a problem.” Merlin pointed out. “Water does attract lightning very easily. I’m sorry that hurt you. But great job on that spell, Air.”

Night chuckled.

Ice and I rolled our eyes.

“The next spell is done much the same way as this one. Aero.” Merlin explained. “Point up, say ‘Aero’, then let’s hope the spell comes out right.”

Night twisted her Keyblade, then pointed up. “Aero!” she shouted. Then a light, swift wind came out, then down and around Night in a circular shield. Night stared at the swirling wind. “What’s it supposed to do?”

“The aero spell is a spell for protection and deflections. It helps blocking hits and takes some of the power off of other elemental spells.”

Ice smiled and help up her Keyblade. “Aero!” she exclaimed. A thin, sturdy wind went around her, making her shield around her.

Cool, okay, my turn. I aimed my Key up. “Aero!” I yelled. A swirl of wind came onto me with like three times the power of Night’s and with more force.

“Ah! You are the controller of the air element.”

I nodded at Merlin’s comment.

“You also seem to have lots of power over lightning. Interesting.”

I could tell a difference between Night’s and Ice’s shields, they were both differently made around both of them.

“It’s seems that all three of you easily mastered that spell with no difficulties.” Merlin told us. “Well, I was hoping to try this new spell with you to see how it would turn out, but I’m not sure.”

“It can’t be much worse than what we’ve already had.” Ice mumbled.

“That depends…. Well, I guess we can give it a shot. Okay, this time I want you to point up, then bring you Keyblades down directly in front of you. When you bring it down, say ‘Darkness’.”

Uh, oh, this can‘t go good. I heard Ice give a small, sharp gasp. I almost gave one myself, but I held it in.

Night seemed a little overconfident of the spell, so she prepared.

“Wait, Night.” Merlin quickly said. “This time, I want you guys to start the opposite ways. Ice, you first.”

Ice’s eyes grew. “Okay.” She calmed herself. Ice pointed her Key up, then brought it down. “Darkness!” she exclaimed.

Suddenly, a big ball of darkness formed and started forward at a target, which I just now realized was what she aimed at. But there was a problem, it started back at her.

Night quickly deflected it with her Keyblade.

“Air, you next.” Merlin said, observing.

I sucked in a breath. I pointed up with my Keyblade and brought it down. “Darkness!” I yelled.

Another big ball of darkness formed and went to its target, but same problem happened. It started back at me.

Night again had to quickly deflect it.

“Night, now you.” Merlin told her.

Night pointed up and came down with her Key. “Darkness!” she shouted with power.

This time, a huge ball of darkness formed at her Key and went straight at its targets. Most of it hit the furniture, but two small catches of it came back and headed for Ice and me.

Night quickly summoned those back into her Keyblade, before they touched us. “Sorry about that.” she said.

“Well, that was an interesting experiment.” Merlin said. “Night, do you have some power over darkness?”

Night nodded, straight-faced.

“Hmm…. Anyways, we have one last spell before you can move on.”

Night, Ice, and I sighed, our shoulders slumping.

“Oh, don’t worry, this one everyone should get… hopefully.”

“What is it?” Ice asked.

“It’s a healing spell and is very important to know it, if I were you. Cure. Hold your Keyblades out beside you, twist, then point up and say ‘Cure’.”

Ice started again. She held her Key out beside her, did a very graceful twist, and pointed up. “Cure!” she exclaimed.

All of a sudden, a yellow and green flower appeared above her. Aqua blue sparks came out from it, forming a perfect circle around her, healing her.

“Neat!” she said.

I put my Keyblade out beside me, I gave an aerial twist, and pointed up. “Cure!” I yelled.

Another yellow and green flower appeared above me. Bright green sparks came out of it, making its circle around me, healing me.

“Wow!” I mumbled.

Night set her Keyblade out beside her, gave a swift twist, then aimed upward. “Cure!” she shouted.

Once more a yellow and green flower appeared above her head. Night blue sparks drained from it, surrounding her in a circle, healing her.

“Gosh!” she noted.

Merlin clapped. “You all have now passed your magic training.” he said. “Each with his or her own way of performing it. Congratulations! Now Yuffie will take you to your next teacher. Good luck.”

Trixe came up to me and nudged my leg. “Master Air?” she asked.

“Yes?” I answered.

“Where are we going now?”

“I’m not sure.”

“Come on you guys!” Yuffie exclaimed. “Master Yen Sid is waiting for you!”

“Who?!” Night, Ice, and I asked in unison.
