Our hearts beat strong under ficticous skies.
A Narnia story
Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy were walking with the beavers when the saw a camp coming up. The beavers explained that that was where Aslan was. When they arrived at the camp they saw many different creatures. Peter’s eyes wandered the crowd until he came to a girl that looked about his age.
“Beaver?” he started, “Are there other humans here?” he asked.
“No, why do you ask?” he asked.
“There’s a girl over there, who looks human.” He said motioning to a brown haired girl, sitting next to a Centaur (Oreius).
“Oh, I believe that is Mina.” He said. “I hear that she’s a witch and that she was raised by Aslan.”
“Oh.” Peter said still looking at her.
Soon they reached the big tent, where Aslan was. Everyone behind them bowed as the great lion emerged from the tent. He looked at the four Pevensie children and said, “Peter, Susan, and Lucy. But where is the forth?”
They were surprised that he knew their names, but explained that the White Witch had taken their brother, Edmund.
“Welcome to Narnia. I thank you gratefully for coming. As I also thank the beavers for bringing you here safely.” He nodded to the beavers. “Come with me, we will talk in here.” He led them into the tent.
After a while, the brown haired girl peaked her head in the tent. “Aslan?” she asked, her voice was sweet and airy. Aslan looked up at her, as did the four children.
“What is it Mina?” he asked.
“We found one of Jadus’s dwarfs sneaking around.” She held up a small man with a long beard. He was wiggling around trying to get free of the vines tied around his hands and legs. Aslan looked back at the children.
“We will continue another time. You are excused.” He said. They all stood up and walked out of the tent. Peter eyed Mina, as did she. She walked in with the dwarf and sat him down, then left. Peter saw her walk out and watched her walk off and started talking with Oreius.
“Peter stop staring at her.” Susan said. Peter looked over at her and narrowed his eyes.
“I was not staring at her.” He said.
“Peter likes her.” Edmund whispered to Lucy. Peter heard that and blushed a little.
“Shut up!” he yelled. Mina and the Centaur looked over at them, then back at each other.
“Too bad Peter, I think she’s only interested in that Centaur.” Susan said laughing. Lucy and Edmund started laughing too. Peter huffed and sat down on a big rock.
Later that night Peter was up and sitting outside his tent, when he heard a noise coming from behind his tent. He stood up and drew his sword. He heard a gasp and saw Mina standing there at the edge of his sword. He quickly put it down.
“Sorry.” He said, “You just startled me.”
“As did you.” She said catching her breath and walking out into the light more. She sat down next to where Peter was sitting. “Your name is Peter right? You’re the eldest of your siblings.” She asked. Peter sat down next to her.
“Yes.” He said. “And your name is…” he waited for an answer.
“Mina.” She said smiling. “How do you like it here?” she asked, trying to make conversation.
“It’s nice, cold.”
Mina giggled.
“But it’s nice.” He finished.
“I see.” She said picking at the grass.
“Uhm…the Beavers told me that you were a witch.” He said. Mina looked at him uncomfortably.
“Yeah.” Her voice was quiet.
“Sorry.” He said, letting his head drop.
“No, it’s alright.” She said. “It’s just that when people here the word witch they tend to get scared. Because they only think about Jadus, the white witch. And they completely forget that there were once many good witches in Narnia.” She said.
“The white witch, she’s the one we’re supposed to fight right?” he asked.
“Yes.” Mina said. “Weren’t you listening to anything Aslan told you.” She laughed a little. Peter smiled, becoming more comfortable with her.
“So you can do magic?” he asked.
“Well, yes.” She said. “There are different kinds of witches in Narnia. Evil, good, nature, water, dark, light, and winter.” She explained. Peter looked at her, “I was born a nature witch. But I’ve been working on other spells and things too.”
“And the white witch is a winter witch?” he asked.
“You are correct.” She smiled. Peter looked at her for a moment, and then looked away. They were both silent for a while.
“What are you doing up?” he asked suddenly.
“I was just walking around, enjoying the night.” She said. “But you should really get some sleep. Being part of the prophecy must be pretty tiring.” She said.
“Nah.” He said standing up. “I’m not tired.” He reached out his hand to help her up. She grabbed his hand. He pulled her up close to him. His face flushed, but she couldn’t tell in the darkness.
“You should still sleep.” She said, noticing how close they were.
“So should you.” He noticed that she still held his hand. Their faces were moving closer slowly until Mina turned her head down and felt his face on her head. She pulled away.
“Go to bed Peter.” She said walking away. Peter stood there watching her walk away, then turned and went into his tent.
The next day
When Mina walked out of her tent she found Peter and his family eating breakfast. She walked over smiling. “Hello.” She said. Peter looked up and smiled.
“Hello.” He said. Susan, Edmund and Lucy looked a Mina, then back at Peter in confusion. “These are my siblings.” Peter started, “Susan, Edmund and Lucy.” He motioned to each one. He turned to them, “This is Mina.” He said. They all smiled except Edmund, who kept on chewing his food.
“Can I join you?” she asked somewhat shyly. Peter nodded and made room for her at the small table. She sat down and grabbed a piece of bread. “How is everyone?” she asked, trying to start a conversation.
“Tired.” Lucy said. “But I’m excited to be here!” she said finishing her breakfast. “I have a question though.” She said.
“Ask away.” Mina said taking a bite of her bread.
“Why is it only spring in this area?” she asked. Mina swallowed her food and began to talk.
“Because of you.” She said.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“You are the prophecy. The ones that will help us defeat the White witch. Your power is taking over and creating spring.” She said.
“Is that true?” she asked.
“Yep.” Mina smiled. “Peter can you pass me the butter?” Peter wasn’t listening, he was thinking about things. Mina tapped his shoulder and he jumped.
“What?!” he yelled.
“Sorry,” Mina said almost laughing. “Can you pass me the butter?” she asked. Peter blushed and handed her the butter.
“What was on your mind Peter?” Susan joked.
“Oh shut up.” Peter said. Mina looked back and forth between them.
“Did I miss something?” she asked.
“No.” Peter said getting up and walking away.
Later
Mina, Susan and Lucy were walking around talking. They came to a river and started to splash each other. Suddenly two of Jadus’s wolves came up and started to attack them. They quickly climbed a tree but the wolves started jumping. Mina waved her hands and grass started to move and knocked the wolves down.
“Get back!” she screamed, trying to keep them from reaching them. He hands became cold and covered in ice. Lucy and Susan looked at her terrified. Mina tried to thaw her hands but nothing would work. The witch had frozen them.
Suddenly Aslan and Peter appeared and fought off the wolves.
“Aslan!” Lucy yelled pulling Mina over to him. “Something’s happened to Mina’s hands!”
“Show me child.” He said. Mina lifted her frozen hands.
“That evil witch!” Mina said angrily. Peter stumbled over to them and saw her hands.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
“Yes, the witch just froze my hands. But I’ll be fine.” She said. Aslan breathed on her hands and they began to thaw. Peter was standing right behind her. “Aslan I’m sorry.” She said.
“Don’t be sorry.” He said.
“I don’t think I can fight her. She wasn’t even near me and she froze my hands. I can’t even imagine what she was do when we’re fighting.” She said.
“Mina, you are strong.” She said. “But you seemed a little preoccupied.” He said. “As if something was on your mind.” Mina looked down.
“I couldn’t protect Susan and Lucy.” She said quietly, “I’m sorry.” She shook her hands and walked off. Peter looked down at Aslan, then back at his sisters.
“Go talk to her.” Aslan said to Peter.
“Me?” he asked.
“Go.” He said. Peter ran to catch up with her.
Mina walked to the edge of a cliff, and then sat down. Peter sat next to her. “I’m so weak.” She said.
“No you’re not.” He said.
“Don’t lie to me.” She mumbled.
“I’m not. You protected my sisters until we got there. I’m sure you’ll do better next time.” He said.
“Next time…” she said looking up. “I could actually mess up and kill someone.” Peter slowly put his hand on her shoulder.
“Next time you’ll know what not to do.” He said. “Aslan believes in you.”
“But you don’t.” she said. Peter paused.
“Yes I do.”
“You’re just saying that.”
“No I’m not.” He said. “I don’t know you that well. But if Aslan believes in you, then I do.” He said. “And thanks for protecting my sisters.”
“You’re welcome.” She mumbled.
Later
Aslan called Mina into his tent. “Mina, I called you here to discuss something.” He started. Mina sat down at listened carefully. “As you know Jadus is gaining more power and is getting ready for a battle.” He paused. “I want you to fight in the battle.” He said.
“But Aslan-“ he cut her off.
“You are strong witch. And an even stronger person.” He said. “I want you to use your magic against hers.” Mina looked down at the ground timidly.
“Are you sure?” she asked. “I couldn’t do anything to help Lucy and Susan.”
“Yes you did.” He said. “And yes, No matter what happens, I want you to fight with the Pevensie.” He smiled. “I think your father would want that.” Mina smiled slightly. Aslan dismissed her.
All the children were training and practicing their weapons, when the beavers ran up to them and told them that Aslan was meeting with the Witch.
The witch walked towards Aslan. “You have a traitor amongst you.” she snarled. “And you know that every traitor belongs to me.” She saw Mina standing next to Peter
“Hello dear.” She smiled and touched Mina’s face. “How is my favourite niece?” She laughed. Mina charged at her but was held back by Peter
“You evil wench!” Mina screamed. “I’ll kill you!” Peter tightened his grip and pulled her back a little.
“Jadus!” Aslan roared. “We will talk privately.” He led the witch into his tent. Everyone turned to look at Edmund, then to Mina, who was ready to kill Jadus. Peter pulled her away form the crowd.
“What’s wrong?” he asked. “Why do you hate her so much?” Mina looked at the ground.
“She and my mother were sisters, both witches. My mother met a human and fell in love. Jadus was jealous.” She paused. “Once I was 5, she was filled with rage. My father was able to escape with me, but my mother…” she went silent. “My mother wasn’t.” she looked up at Peter. “My father handed me over to Aslan and fled Narnia.”
Peter looked at her sadly and touched her face. “I’m sorry.” He said.
“It’s alright.” She mumbled. Peter wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly.
Later, the Witch and Aslan came out of the tent. Aslan announced that the Witch had renounced her claim to Edmund’s blood.
That night.
After Aslan was killed by the witch Susan and Lucy quickly sent word to their brothers. And as soon as Peter heard what happened he ran to tell Mina. He knew she would be crushed, but she had to know. He ran into her tent and saw her sleeping in a hammock. He knelt down beside it and slowly shook her, waking her up.
“Mina.” He said, “Mina wake up.” Mina opened her eyes slowly and smiled.
“Peter?” she rubbed her eyes and sat up. “What are you doing here?”
“Mina, something happened. You’re not going to like it.” He said seriously. Mina swung her legs over the hammock and looked straight at him.
“What happened?” She asked, her voice was worried. “Did something happen to Lucy? Susan? Edmund?”
“None of them. They’re fine.” He sighed. “Aslan is dead.”
“No.” Mina denied his words. She shook her head and backed away from Peter.
“Mina I’m sorry.” He said reaching his hand out to her. “The White witch killed him.” Mina held her head in her hands and shook her head, she repeatedly said ‘No, no he can’t be.’ Peter grabbed her and pulled her into a big embrace. “I’m sorry.” He said holding her close. Mina cried into his chest.
After a while Mina started to fall back asleep. Peter laid her on the bed and started to walk out.
“Peter?” she asked quietly. He stopped.
“Yes?”
“Can you stay?” she asked shyly. He walked back over.
“Only if I can lay on the bed too.” He smiled. Mina moved over to give him some room. He wrapped his arm around her and held her close. “Are you alright?” he asked. Mina was shaking from crying.
“Not really.” She said. Peter held her tightly until they both fell asleep.
Next day
Edmund was looking for Peter, he walked around and checked Mina’s tent.
“Peter!” he yelled. Peter shot up, waking Mina. “What are you doing?”
“Well I was sleeping.” He said slowly getting up. Mina rolled over and moaned.
“And so was Mina. Until you rudely barged in here.” He stood up and stretched.
“Sorry. I was just looking for you. You never came back last night.”
“Well now you know where I was.” He said walking out with Edmund. “Mina didn’t want to be left alone. She was devastated.” He said.
“I said I was sorry.” He said. “I didn’t know.”
“It’s alright.” He said looking back at the tent.
Later,
Peter was talking with some people in the army, making battle plans when Mina walked over next to him. She stood there silently for a few moments, and then spoke.
“Where should I fight?” she asked. Peter went silent; he turned to look at her.
“No where.” He said.
“What?” Mina was shocked. She didn’t understand why Peter didn’t want her to fight.
“You’re not going to fight.” He said sternly.
“Why not?” Mina started to get mad. Peter clenched his fist.
“Because I’m not going to let you!” he yelled.
“That’s not fair!” she yelled back. “You know I can fight!”
“You’re not fighting!” he yelled again. Mina took a deep breath then shouted.
“Aslan would have let me fight!” Peter slammed his fist down on the table.
“Aslan isn’t here! Is he!?” he yelled. “I’m in charge of the army! And you are NOT fighting!” Mina gasped at what he said. Her eyes filled with tears.
“You’re so…” she couldn’t finish the sentence; she just stormed off crying. Peter sighed and looked back down at the map.
“Sir,” the Oreius started. “Apologize to her. I know why you won’t let her fight. It’s not because you don’t think she can, its because you don’t want her to get hurt.” He paused, Peter looked at him. “She’s an amazing fighter, I’ve seen her. Let her fight.” Peter looked down at the map again for a moment, and then ran off after Mina. He found her sitting on a cliff, over looking the white witch’s castle.
“Mina!” he called. He ran over to her and saw that she was crying. He sat down next to her.
“I can’t believe he’s dead.” She said, choking back some tears. “He the closest thing to a father I had. And he told me that I could fight the White witch one day, to get my revenge.” She paused. “He promised me that I could fight.” Peter looked down, ashamed.
“I’m sorry.” He said. “I didn’t mean to snap at you like that. It was wrong and mean and heartless.” He paused. “I’m just stressed and I didn’t want you to fight because…because I didn’t want anything to happen to you.” Mina looked at him. “I should have known that you would be okay. That you could fight.” He paused. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright.” She mumbled. Peter placed his hand on hers.
“You’ll be with Edmund during the battle. With the archers.” He said. Mina smiled.
The battle
Peter rode to the front of the army and took a deep breath. The army was attentive, but silent.
“For Narnia!” Peter cried. “For Aslan!” The troops exploded into applause, clanging their swords against their shields. Peter led the charge towards the witches Army.
The witch’s army was too strong for Peter’s, and his was on the verge of collapse. The witch has turned many of his soldiers to stone and was now closing in on Peter. Seeing this, Edmund brought down his sword and smashed the Witch’s wand in two. Furious, the witch let out a scream and stabbed Edmund in the gut with the shattered wand. Mina saw Edmund fall to the ground and saw the witch heading for Peter again. She jumped down off the hill and landed right behind the Witch. Quickly she created a thick vine and wrapped it around the Witch’s neck, allowing Peter to get up and prepare to fight again.
The Witch struggled to get it off, but instead she whirled around and sliced Mina’s arm with her sword. Mina screamed and let go of the vine, releasing the Witch. Peter grabbed his sword and began to fight the Witch again
Mina grasped her arm and ran over to Edmund. She saw how bad his wound was and tried to help him.
Peter’s army was loosing badly, then suddenly,
“ROAR!”
Aslan stood on top of the cliff with Susan and Lucy. He let them off then bounded down the hill towards the Witch. He pounced and roared—and the Witch was gone.
Lucy, Susan and Peter ran over to Edmund. Lucy quickly pulled out her jeweled vial and gave Edmund a drop and healed him. Then she ran around healing all the other soldiers.
Mina looked up at Peter who had grabbed her arm and started wrapping her wound, and smiled. Peter blushed and leaned his face closer to hers. Mina’s cheeks flushed and were bright red. He leaned closer and kissed her passionately. Mina wrapped her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. Susan, Lucy and Edmund watched with smiles.
“Stop that!” Edmund joked. Peter smiled and pulled back from the kiss. Mina looked over at Lucy and them.
“Mina.” A deep voice said. Mina turned around and saw Aslan standing there. She smiled and ran to hug him. He chuckled and placed his big paw on her. “Good job everyone!” he said.
The Crowning.
Mina stood next to beavers and watched as Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy were all crowned and named the Kings and Queens of Narnia. Peter looked over at Mina and smiled as he sat down on the thrown.
Later that evening Peter saw Mina sitting at a table and walked over to her. He grabbed her hand and pulled her up out of the chair into his arms.
“Will you be with me?” he asked, slightly blushing. Mina smiled.
“Of course.” She kissed him deeply and wrapped her arms around him. Peter smiled.
“Forever?” he kissed her again.
“Forever.”
THE END(or is it?)
EPILOUGE! 15 year later.
Mina was lying in a bed; her face was covered in tears. Peter walked over and crawled into the bed next to her.
“I’m so sorry Mina.” He mumbled, wrapping his arms around her.
“He was so cold…” she sobbed. Peter held her tightly. “I can’t believe it.”
“We’ll try again. I know how much you want a baby.” He said, trying not to cry himself. Mina rolled over and tucked her face in his chest.
“What if it happens again? What if it dies?” she sobbed.
“Mina…” he couldn’t hold it back anymore, her started crying too. “I promise you that this won’t happen again.” Mina looked at his face and saw that he was crying. She touched his cheek lightly. “I’m just glad that you’re okay.” He said.
“I love you.” she choked back a few tears.
“I love you too.”
The next day Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy were out exploring Narnia when they came to a familiar place; the lamppost. They followed a path until they found themselves in a wardrobe. They all fell out of it onto the floor of the professor’s house, realizing that no time had passed in their world. Peter looked back at the wardrobe and frowned.
“I have to get back.” A tear rolled off his cheek. “Mina needs me.”
“Who’s Mina?” The professor asked. They all looked up and saw him standing there. “A girl you met, in Narnia?” he smirked. Peter looked at him and smirked.
That night Lucy crept back into the room and tried to get back into Narnia. She heard a noise and turned around.
“I’m afraid you won’t get back that way. I already tried.” The professor said.
“Will we ever go back?” Lucy asked sadly.
“I should think so. But it’ll likely happen when you’re not looking for it.” He answered. “All the same, it’s best to keep your eyes open.”
