Chapter 11- Izzi’s POV
I heard Nikki scream, and sighed as I heard the front doors of the center close. Great, I knew this would happen. He was just too wild to be tamed by an inexperienced and untactful nurse. I didn’t even bother with shoes as I ran down the sidewalk in the warm spring L.A. weather.
“Nikki!” I shouted as I neared him. I didn’t expect him to listen to me, so when he stopped dead in his tracks and turned around, I slammed into him. “Ooff!” I mumbled, falling backwards, but Nikki caught me, pulling me closely against his own body. I looked into his eyes, our faces only inches away from each other. I cleared my throat, pushing away from him gently. I chanced a glimpse of his eyes before he looked away. Was it disappointment that I saw? “What happened?” I asked, focusing my attention on the tree behind him.
“Stupid bitch of a nurse…” he mumbled, “saying I need to ‘accept God into my heart and beg for forgiveness’!!” His imitation was near perfection.
I snorted. “Over-religious bitch…” I muttered, “so where ya gonna go?” I asked, finally looking at him.
Nikki’s face contorted. “Fuck… I didn’t think about that…”
We stood in silence until an idea started to form in my head. “Move in with me and Charli! She and I could share a room and you could have mine.”
“Would she be okay with that?” He questioned, looking at me skeptically.
I shrugged, and then grinned mischievously. “ If you threw Slash into the mix I’m almost positive she wouldn’t mind one little bit.”
Nikki laughed slightly. “Well, he actually needs a place to stay…” he said, trailing off, attempting to look innocent. It was almost convincing; if I didn’t know any better. But I did.
“So it’s settled. I’ll go back- to formally check you out of rehab- and talk to Charli. You got somewhere you can hang while I do that?”
“I’m hungry, so I’m gonna go get some food, but I’ll call Tommy.”
I nodded, handing him some change. “Payphone’s around the corner.”
“Izzi, I-”
“Take the damn change, Sixx.” I said stubbornly. We may both be the most stubborn people we know, but I knew Nikki would give in before I did.
He sighed, taking it reluctantly and sighed once more, looking at me. “So… see you later?”
I smiled a bit and nodded. “Just give me Tommy’s address and I’ll swing by after work.”
He nodded, jotting down the address and handing the strip of paper to me. He looked- once again- as if he wanted to say something, but didn’t. He just mumbled a goodbye and walked away.
I watched him walk off until I finally turned around and started to trudge slowly back to work to face the wrath that most call paperwork.
