"Ape." Bam nodded his head, his only greeting to his mother. He acted like a jackass. But I knew he really loved her. I saw right through his act, and maybe that's why he was also especially annoying to me. Jess sat down next to me, grumbling a hello. "Awhh, Jessie's got a girlfriend." Bam cooed.

Instantly snapping out of his half sleep half awake state, Jess slammed a fist down. "Damnit, Bam!"

"Damnit Jesse!" Bam mocked, making himself sound childish. Not that he doesn't always sound childish and immature. He wasn't the only one though, we were all immature and we'll stay that way forever. Why else do you think Bam still lived with his mom at 22? Everytime I asked Bam he muttered it was just for the edible breakfast. Then again, whenever I asked about Ape being around and cooking breakfast everyday, then leaving, like a maid the boys just shut down. Dunn would mumble some incoherent thing that sounded like 'I can still feel it in my throat..' It was that very morning that I vowed to myself to cook for the guys from now on. I mean, if I'm girly, Godzilla fucked Superman. But Dad taught me how to cook years ago. I remember most of it. I'm not amazing, but compared to five, hungry guys, I'm a culinary genius. From what I could gather, the last meal ended in a housewide witchhunt of the cook, whom I never figured out.

The next morning I woke to my alarm gently beeping. 6 am. No one but April is up this early. I shook the sleep off and got myself dressed, racing down the stairs, creeping past Bam's room first of course. April was shocked to find me awake. I normally slept the longest, other than Jess. "Oh! Meagan!" She gasped, her voice high and womanly. It served to remind me just how much mothering I'd missed. And that, my friends, was a lot. "I was just about to begin breakfast." Her smile crinkled the lines beside her blue eyes.

"Why don't you let me cook today?" I said, but it came out timid and quiet. She asked me to repeat what I'd said. I couldn't tell if she hadn't heard me or just didn't believe what she was hearing. "Let me cook. You've slaved far too much for us. I can take care of things, really. Go home, take a long holiday."

She whimpered, either relieved to be free or afraid to relinquish her duties. I thought about how she might feel, her youngest son now living on his own without the need for his mother, so she reaches out in the only way she can. But then I saw the weight on her brow lift as she closed the kitchen door, smiling back at me and mouthing a silent thank you. I took up her post, cooking until nine when the house began to wake, daylight pouring through the windows. Novak and Dunn were the first to come to the table, and therefore the first to realize April wasn't the one cooking.

"Thanks Ap-" Novak stared, blinking. He looked to Ryan for help. But he just stared as confused. "Oh..uh..thanks Meg."

Novak, Dunn and Jess were the only ones allowed to call me Meg. I about smacked Bam whenever he let it slip, being too lazy to say Meagan. Bam and I were not on nickname basis. I still hated him. And he was still a complete asshole to me. Crazy, I know. At times I'd wonder if maybe this was just a child thing, like back in first grade when you'd tease the one you liked, then I'd remind myself this was Bam. More likely he just plain didn't like me. Oh was I wrong.

Dunn, instead of giving me the crap Novak did, stuffed his face in his bacon and eggs, only speaking to tell me how delicious they were. "Almost better than April's!"

"Totally!" Novak finally agreed, more likely growing bored of chewing me out. "Ape's amazing, but god these are like.." He stopped immediately. I followed their horrified looks to Bam. Wonderful.

He itched his eye, stretching. His shirt rode up a bit, exposing less than a few inches of skin before his plaid pants. I could make out his tattoo clearly, my eyes darting to all the corners of it, following the spirals down to… "Morning!" I laughed awkwardly, trying to shake what I'd just done from my mind. I don't ever want these eyes to travel that far down again. I didn't even bother, or want, to question what led them down there.

"Wha..where's Ma?" He asked, still half asleep considering he spoke evenly, without the usual venom.

I shrugged. "Sent her home. Here, eat." I handed him a plate piled with bacon, pancakes and sausage. Before he had time to even smell it, his mouth was full of a mix of pancakes, bacon and sausage.

Jess came down last, hugging me instead of the usual 'Good morning, Megness.' Jess was the only one to call me Megness. Jess was the only one for a lot of things. I shrugged off this behavior, assuming it was just the breakfast. But it's not as if I didn't notice the glares those two brothers were sending each other across the table. I thought on Bam for a moment, how it must burn him up inside that Jess was the one to claim the seat next to mine. Then again, this is Bam.

How could and why would he ever like me? I'm boring as hell.
