“Ugh how much longer until we get there” I groaned. “I don’t know like five minutes.” Bam replied sounding annoyed. “Would you guys rather go to Duffers because it’s right here? And besides I don’t really have a taste for McDonalds.” Deron spoke up. “Yeah I mean we ALWAYS go to McDonalds. We go to Duffers every what 1 out of 50 times.” Ryan agreed. I shrugged. “What is Duffers? Like just a restaurant?” I asked, “Yeah. Oh Bam you remember Ellis and Miles from the Skate Park? They work here.” Jess explained. “Really? That’s cool. I haven’t talked to them in like forever.” Bam said as we opened the doors into Duffers. And when someone passed looking like he just came out from the best movie ever, Bam was the one who broke the small chatter going around the restaurant. “MILES!” Bam shouted. I turned over to Jess who was shaking his head and most likely thinking to himself, “What went wrong?” I chuckled at the thought. And Deron was doing the same thing as Jess. While Ryan was cracking up. All in a matter of 2 seconds. While the Miles person tripped and fell with an empty tray in hand.

“Bam you ass.” Miles said while getting up and brushing himself off. “Hello Miles.” Bam said holding a grin on his face. “Dude don’t do that you’re going to get me fired like at the Skate Park.” Miles explained to Bam. He turned over to examine me. “Who’s the chick?” he asked. “That chick happens to have a name and her name is Emily Striderson thank you very much.” I said offended. “Gees sorry.” He said backing off. “Get us a table Miles.” Bam protested. “Are you going to pay?” he asked folding his arms across his chest. “Oh uh you want us to pay?” he asked sounding innocent. “Yeah I told them I’d buy them something to eat. My treat.” I told him. And the boys looked at me shocked. I just shrugged. Miles sighed and took us to a table.

“What the heck was that? Are you really going to pay for us?” Ryan asked me. I took a duct tape wallet out of my pocket and opened it and showed them the money I had. “How much money do you have?” Bam asked me sounding stoked. “Around forty dollars. I don’t mind paying. You guys cool with that?” I asked them. “Yeah but we’re going to pay you back okay?” Jess told me. I nodded. We ordered our food. “Thanks again Em. You are the coolest person we met in a matter of four and a half hours.” Jess told me. I smiled and nodded. I paid the bill and we left. I checked my watch. ‘Shit mom’s gonna kill me!’ I thought to myself. ”Hey can you guys take me home. If I’m not home soon my mom is going to call the police. Not joking. She did that before.” I explained to them.

So they took me to my driveway. “Thanks again you guys. Want to hang out tomorrow?” I asked them. “There’s school tomorrow Em.” Bam mentioned. I totally forgot. “Shit. I am grounded.” I told them with no expression in my voice. “Why?” Deron questioned. “I was supposed to be back at like six to get enrolled to a school.” I explained to them. “Oh well see you tomorrow?” Ryan asked I nodded yes. As they left I walked in the door. “Where the hell were you Emily?” My older brother Matt asked me like he was my father. But everyone was sitting in the living room. Except my father. “With some friends. Where’s dad?” I told them. Veronica started to bawl out in tears. My mother was comforting her. “He got shot! We thought you did to!” he spat at me. “No he didn’t he’s just late from work, traffic. That’s all.” I tried to convince myself but it wasn’t working. The phone rang. My mother answered it. “Hello…yes this is her…mhm…. okay…. 2894750…. well is there anything you can do…Yes four…Alright we’ll be there…okay thank you buh bye.” She hung up. Tears rolled down her face along with Veronica. I turned to Matt he was giving me a death glare like it was my fault.

“Who was it?” Matt asked still glaring at me. “The hospital. H-he didn’t make it.” She told us. “You know this is all your fault! If you would have just stayed home and not have been curious he would’ve still been here!” Matt shouted at me. “My fault! Just because I went out with some friends?” I asked annoyed. “I’m leaving. You know what Matt you used to understand me and I could talk to you. Not anymore.” I yelled right in his face. I went right out the door and slammed it. I saw that Bam, Ryan, Jess, and Deron weren’t that far ahead. “Hey!” I screamed loud enough for them to hear and as soon as they turned around I ran straight toward them. “Emily what happened?” Jess asked referring to the tears that filled my eyes. “My dad got shot!” I told them. “Is he ok?” Deron asked me. “Hey Emily whose that?” Ryan asked pointing back to my running brother running toward us. “Run to your house.” I told them pointing at Bam and Jess. “I’m going to, hurry before he catches up with us.” I commanded them. They nodded and we ran as fast as we could to Bam and Jess’s house.
