CHAPTER 3
After meeting with a few more Pokemon, mostly Wingulls, Wurmples, Zigzagoons and poochyenas, Treeko’s level had been raised too level 9, and Matt had come to a dead end.
However, a figure was standing alone in the middle of the small area.
Matt gave into her curiosity, and went to investigate.
“so I found this one of this route…” the thing said. Matt recognized it as a boys voice. Walking up behind them, she touched their shoulder gently. The jumped a foot in the air, and turned around.
“Matt! Is that you?” the figure questioned. Matt knew the face which was facing her in the dark.
“Yes, Brendan.” Matt replied, sighing in relief. Brendan followed suit.
“so…what brings you out here at this time?” Brendan asked, looking around in the dark.
“Well, I was on my way to the town after this one, and it would appear I came up through the wrong path.” Matt replied. Brendan nodded.
“So…” He started “Did you get your pokemon?”
“yep.” Matt replied, showing him the green gecko on her shoulder.
“Well, let me show you what being a trainer is all about!” He exclaimed, pressing the button on the poke ball and throwing it into the air.
“Go, Torchic!” He called, and a small, red chick like pokemon emerged. Matt raised an eyebrow.
Brendan caught wave of it, and defended himself and his pokemon, as most would.
“My Torchic will grow up strong and evolve into a Blaziken!” He announced. Matt shrugged.
“You know what to do, Treeko.” Matt told her pokemon, who nodded, jumping off of her shoulder.
Both of the pokemon looked at each other, an obvious stare off in place.
Finally, the first order was given.
“Torchic! Use scratch!” Brendan yelled. Matt clasped her eyes in surprise.
She watched as the small bird raced forward, and kicked Treeko, leaving 3 shallow marks from its semi-sharp talons. It didn’t seem to do much damage to Treeko.
“Treeko, use pound.” Matt instructed quietly, but with confidence. Her pokemon leapt high into the air. Because of Treeko’s levels rising, he had gotten stronger, as did his attacks.
His tail was brought down, making a small tremor occur. It struck Torchic right on the back, leaving it swaying as it rose into standing position.
Brendan looked, if anything, surprised. He obviously didn’t expect Matt’s pokemon to be this powerful, despite the fact she only received it a few hours ago.
“Torchic! Use scratch again!” Brendan commanded, determined. He had a lot of faith in his pokemon. Another scratch mark was placed upon Treeko.
“Hmm. Treeko, use absorb.” Matt told her pokemon, who complied. A beam of light once again, stretched towards Torchic, connecting it with Treeko. The bubbles traveled across the beam, and into Treeko.
The scratches that had been placed upon the green pokemon disappeared, leaving it completely healed. As for Torchic, four scratch marks appeared on its side and back. The small bird, unable to cope, fainted. Brendan rushed over to his pokemon, and called it back into it’s poke ball.
He smiled at Matt, but, she could tell he was sore from being beaten by someone more novice than himself.
“Good job, for your first real pokemon battle. You’re a natural at this.” Brendan commented. Matt nodded.
“thank you. Your not so bad yourself.” She replied “sorry about your Torchic, will he…?”
“he’ll be fine.” Brendan confirmed.
“good. Well, I better be off.” Matt said, turning on her heels and walking away.
“wait!” Brendan called after her. She stopped.
“yes?” She asked.
“I want you to have these.” Brendan told her, running up to her. In his hand, were 5 identical poke balls, much like the one she already had.
“you can use them, to catch more pokemon. Apart of being a pokemon trainer is befriending many pokemon.” Brendan explained. Matt slowly took the poke balls from Brendan’s hand, and placed then in another one of her pouch sections.
“thank you.” She thanked.
Brendan smiled.
“its alright.” He replied.
Matt remembered something, and just in time too.
“oh yeah, and your father told me to tell you to head home now.” She said, relaying the message to the boy in front of her. He sighed.
“ok, im going back.” He replied, his shoulders drooping.
So, with that, Brendan and Matt both made there way back through the forest, taking a hidden path to avoid any wild pokemon.
Matt stopped outside the east exit of Odale town. Brendan stopped and looked at her.
“What are you doing?” Brendan asked.
“it’s the way im going.” She replied, continuing to look in that direction.
“your not serious. Aren’t you going to rest here or in little root?” Brendan asked.
Matt shook her head.
“I don’t see any point in it. I don’t want to go back to little root, seeing as I would only be able to stay at home, which would make me have second thoughts about my journey, and the PokeMart could close down before I could get y meds, meaning I cant sleep anyways.” Matt explained.
Brendan ‘Ooooh’d’ like her realized something.
“so THAT’S why you have the lolly pop and huge rings under your eyes. You’re an insomniac, right?” He questioned. Matt nodded.
“yep. Not just that, but I have a headache bigger than king kong.” She added, holding her head.
Brendan gave her a sympathetic look.
“don’t worry” He assured “the PokeMarts open at 4am. That way, no matter what time you leave, you’ll get there and they’ll be open.”
Matted nodded.
“thanks for the info. I better get going, though. The earlier I get there, the earlier I can rest.” Matt sighed. Brendan nodded.
“well, I guess I’ll be seeing you around. Catch ya later.” Brendan farewelled as matt began walking down the east track. She waved back at him, watching him disappear to the south.
Matt yawned.
It was going to be a LONG night

By the time Matt reached Petalburg, it was really late…or fairly early.
Treeko has grown to around level 12, and had learnt “quick attack”. He was very tired, and had refused all offers to sleep, not wanting Matt to be unprotected during the night.
Matt had caught herself another pokemon, too. It was a small, gray and green pokemon, called a ‘Ralts’. It had a green helmet like head, with pink horns at the front and back. It was very cute, according to Matt.
Looking around the spacious city, matt smiled. It was peaceful in the early hours of the morning. Her little time of peace, was, however, disturbed by a loud, heavy yawn. Matt covered her mouth, dampening the noise. She sobbed a little at the constant heavy, painful throbbing inside her head. It was like someone was hitting her brain with a sledge hammer every two seconds.
Disregarding the headache, a sour look on her face instead, she scanned the area for a Poke Mart. Sure enough, the blue roofed building was a block away from the Pokemon Center.
And it was open.
She practically ran to the door, slowly down as she approached. There was currently no-one in the store, besides the kind faced woman at the counter.
Matt pushed open the door, greeting the woman with a smile. Making her way over to the pharmaceutical section, she quickly found what she needed.
Picking up a bottle of sleeping pills, and a packed of panadol, she went over to the counter, and placed them down. The woman looked at the items, but did not scan them.
“im afraid im going to have to check for a prescription for those particular sleeping pills, dear.” the woman informed her. Matt nodded and pulled out a small sheet of paper, and handed it to the woman.
“Alight then, everything’s in order.” The woman said, scanning the items, and placing them on the other side of the checkout.
“that’ll be 3500 poke.” She said. Matt nodded and pulled out her trainer/ ID card, and swiped it through the machine. The machine beeped, and accepted the card.
Matt picked up the containers, and put them in her back small pouch.
“poor dear, how long have you been without sleep?” The check out woman asked.
“nearly a week.” She replied quietly.
“Poor girl. You could use a rest.” the woman said with sincere look.
“yes, and im looking forward to it.” Matt joked, smiling. The woman smiled back, waving as matt left the Poke Mart.
Matt next rushed into the pokemon center, speed walking to the desk.
“can I help you?” the Nurse joy at the counter asked.
“Yes, can I please have a room?” Matt asked quietly, eager to get some sleep. Nurse joy nodded politely, and fished under the counter for a set of keys. She set them on the counter.
“would you like us to take your pokemon?” Nurse joy questioned. Matt nodded, handing the two occupied Poke balls over the counter, and into nurse joys capable hands.
“Your pokemon are in good care.” Nurse joy assured Matt, who smiled, despite the constantly growing pain in her head.
“Thank you.” Matt thanked, walking down the hall where all the bedrooms were. She found the room number that matched the keys, and entered. The room was small, but nice. It had a single bed up against the wall, a bedside table, and a bathroom connected with it. Matt put down her backpack, and took her PJ’s out of it. She removed her waist pouch, and grabbed the two pill containers out of her pocket. She took all of these items, into the bathroom.
Matt stood at the counter, looking at her reflection in the mirror. Her face was paler than normal, though her cheeks were flushed. She had a red spot from where she was rubbing her head.
Matt’s eyes were bloodshot, and the rings under her eyes had darkened so they almost looked like tattoos. If anything, Matt thought she looked like a scary Panda.
Unscrewing the cap of the Sleeping pills, matt took out 2 small, blue pills. Doing the same with the panadol, she held the four pills in her hands. First, she swallowed the two panadol pills, and left the sleeping pills on the basin.
Matt turned on the shower faucet, and took a shower, sighing in relief as her headache slowly disappeared.
Feeling better to some extent, matt put on her PJ’s, then stood in front of the counter. Some colour had returned t her face, and her cheeks were no longer flushed.
Picking up the Sleeping pills, matt put them in her mouth, and flushed them down with a mouthful of water. She grimaced at the bitter taste, but rejoiced at the feeling of sleepiness overcoming her.
She quickly brushed her teeth, then turned off the bathroom light, entering the well lit main room.
Attention drawn to the light peeking out of the window, Matt pulled it apart slightly. The moon was low in the sky, meaning it was time Matt went to sleep.
She close the curtain, and turned off the big light, the small light of the bed lamp aiding her journey to the bed. She crawled in, and with her last bit of strength, turned off the light, feeling completely satisfied.
