Sam took a deep breath and then turned his back to Jacob. "We're going to have a pack meeting. In the kitchen. Now." No one hesitated. The boys and Leah all stood, quickly hurrying into the kitchen. "What's going on?" Jacob asked. Sam ignored him again. When Seth was passing him, he put his hand out. "Not you." Seth groaned. "I never get to hear the good stuff!" He whined. But he sat down beside me, the angry look never leaving his face. Jacob stared at Sam. Sam stared at Jacob. I stared at them both. Sighing, Jacob gave a weak, forced smile in my direction and existed the living room. The sound of the door slamming echoed through the room. "So, " Emily said, standing up. "Anyone up for a game of Go Fish?" "It's been long since I've played." Billy said, wheeling up to the coffee table. Sue scowled. "You've been playing every day of your life, you old liar." I watched in confusion as they began playing cards and talking, as though nothing had ever happened. "Aren't you guys at least a bit worried about what's going on in there?" "Of course we are," Emily replied. "Their decisions are usually reckless and irresponsible." "And they usually don't include me." Seth muttered. "Why's that?" " 'Cause I'm the youngest one. Leah's the only girl, and they let her run around and do whatever she wants! It's not fair!" "Seth," Sue said warningly. "Actually, he's right." I said. "Kind of. Sure, you are the youngest one and probably know the least about how to live as a....an over sized wolf," I began, earning an annoyed look from Seth. "But still, they shouldn't worry. You're a werewolf. What more trouble could you get yourself into?" Sue scowled again, while Seth just grinned at me. "I knew I liked you for a reason.” I smiled back.
After a few eventless minutes, Seth and I joined the card game, soon starting a fight over whether or not Billy was actually cheating. Then, there was a chorus of shouting and a bang. We all froze. "Jacob!" I recognized as Sam shouting. "Jacob, come-" The door flew back open and Jacob cam stomping in. His nostrils were flaring and he looked like he was about to explode. I was pulled roughly from my spot on the ground and into his arms once again. "I won't. I won't, I won't, I won't!" Jacob murmured, pressing my head in his chest. I squirmed uncomfortably; his arms were holding me against him I thought I was going to crack into a million pieces right there. "Sam, Sam! What is he doing?” Emily cried. "Aww, man! I knew I was gonna miss something good!" Sam entered the room, followed by the rest of the pack. Sam eye's widened at the sight in front of him and he took a cautious step forward. "Jacob, let go of Lila." I was pulled five steps back while Jacob shook his head. " I won't let you hand her over to them! She stays with me and that's final!" "You need to think about this, Jacob!” “I already have! And she isn’t going anywhere!” He said angrily. Quil shoved past Sam and stepped closer. “It’s the only way, man! Don’t you get it? She’s got to go!” I frowned at his words. Where was I going? “Over my dead body.” Jacob snarled, stepped back yet again. “That could be arranged.” Sam shot Paul an annoyed look, then turned back. “I know this is hard. I really do. But this could be the only way.” “Do you want her to stay here and be killed?” Jared asked. “I’ll protect her!” “How?” “He’ll chase us until he gets tired!” At this point Jacob was holding me so tight, I couldn’t breath. “Jacob,” I breathed. He didn’t seem to hear me; his eye’s were black as night and they scared me. “Your scared, aren’t you? Scared of loosing her like Bella?” Embry exclaimed, angrier then I had ever seen him before. “I’m not.” Jacob said, beginning to shake. Billy rolled back, taking Emily and Sue with him. They both looked scared out of there minds. “You just can’t let it go, can you? Not even when someone’s freaking life is in danger! You need to grow up and start acting like a man, Jacob. Life isn’t always fair.” Embry began shaking too and it felt like the whole room was shaking. Sam tired putting his hand on Embry’s shoulder, but it was slapped off instantly. “Ja-” “Be quiet! Everyone!” “Do it for her, Jacob!” Quil said. “She go through what Bella did! Listen to her and stop!” Jacob looked down at me and all the anger was gone from his eyes. Instead, there was sadness and guilt. He released me immediately,
but still clutched my arm. “I’m sorry.” He whispered. “It’s okay” didn’t seem to be the right response, so I said nothing. Jacob sighed. “I guess it really is for the best, isn’t it?” Sam gave him a smile. “ It is. The best place to meet would be where our land ends. We’ll leave before the sun comes up.” “Would one of you please explain to us what’s going on?” Sue asked. “We think the rogue is coming after Lila for different reasons. We can’t keep her here.” “She needs to be somewhere the scent isn’t familiar and could get confused.” Billy continued. “Right. In order to do that, we need to send her somewhere for a while…… we have to bring her to the Cullen’s.” Both women gasped in what was shock or horror, I couldn’t tell. “Why? Is that really the only solution?” Emily asked. Her beau nodded sadly. Enter confused Lila. “Who are these …“Cullen’s”? ” I asked. There was a pause; they all seemed to be questioning whether to say something or not, and what to say. “They’re a vampire family down in Forks. Not too long ago, we helped them when the evil vamps were trying to get a human girl that was like family to them and they owe us ever since.” Seth explained. “Why’d you help them if they’re vampires and your…werewolves?” “Bella was an old friend of mine. And she basically owes me for breaking my heart.” Jacob said sourly. I winced as I felt a pang of jealousy in my stomach. Broke his heart? He loved this girl…Bella? “So…what your trying to say is…I need to go and stay with this family…all vampires, except for one whom you all probably aren’t on good terms with…to help prevent me from getting murdered by this rogue werewolf…even though I have never met any of them and have never been particularly found of bloodsuckers?” I asked, gulping. “I know this isn’t the “ideal master plan”, but it’s all we can do. We can’t loose you, Lila. ” I sighed and nodded. “How will you be getting there?” Sue asked calmly. “We’ll run, of course.” Sam said. “Hold on! You never said anything about running!” Gym had never exactly been my most favourite class. Sure, I was the best goalie on my soccer team, but running was never my thing. “You won’t be running.” “Then how will I get there? You guys half wizards or something?” “I’ll be carrying you, silly.” Jacob said. I shook my head. “Nope. Nu-uh. There is no way I’m letting you- WHA!” Jacob moved so quickly that I could hardly make him out as he scooped me up into his arms. Blood began to rise to my cheeks and I think I would have fainted if Jacob hadn’t been holding me. “You don’t seem to mind it now,” He whispered. “Jake, put the girl down so she can pack and say goodbye to Auntie Emily.” Emily said, taking my hand once Jacob released me. “Seth, do you still have that phone number? I’ll have to speak with Dr. Cullen.” Seth nodded enthusiastically. “Finally, I get to do something!” He stood up and rushed into the kitchen, followed by Sam and Jared. “I can’t believe we have to see them again.” Paul said, making “them” sound like a curse. “Those bloodsuckers better help us.” “They better after he hears how much Lila means to us,” Embry added. I glanced at Jacob who seemed to be having a pretty intense staring contest with the carpet. “Are you okay?” I asked, gently touching his arm. He jumped as my fingers pressed against his skin, calming down soon after. “Yeah, I’m fine. You’re the one who’s going to live with a bunch of vampires!” “I’m having trouble deciding whether this is a really awesome nightmare or just plain insane.” He smiled and let Emily drag me upstairs. Next task; find atleast ten outfits that would be appropriate to wear in a house full of vampires.
