Chapter 3 : The Light Inside Every Heart {[Yu Yu Hakusho (Hiei)]} Part 2: Hiei's lesson
Hiei teaches Kouki how to read...

Start~Hiei stared at you for a few seconds, waiting to hear you say, 'Just kidding'
"Your serious?" He asked.
You rocked back onto your heels, feeling quite embarrassed, "Well, when your mother doesn't care enough for you to send you to school, you don't... y'know.. learn very much...," you said.
A strange emotion flickered in his eyes but it was gone before you could distinguish it. He closed his eyes and turned away from you, preparing to walk away.
"Get something to eat, then meet me in the training room. Get someone to show you where it is," he said. You didn't bother asking him why, you simply turned and looked around the halls again.
"Down this hall, then your right, the first room on the left," you heard him mutter.
You nodded your head with a, "Mm," not bothering to look back at him, commiting it to memory. You crumpled the paper in your hands and threw it in some random direction, going where Hiei had told you.
-----------------
You ate quickly, scarfing down your meal and picking out some more when you were finished. Tears were running down your face, it tasted so good to your starved stomach. The room was certainly too silent.
You looked up slowly, swallowing the food in your mouth. Everyone at the table was staring at you, some with bigs eyes, some with sympathetic ones.
"I'm... hungry...," you stated softly, wiping at the tears on your face.
Kurama blinked and looked around the table, "Don't mind us, Kouki," he said, looking back at you, "Eat as much as you like."
You looked down at your plate and swallowed the lump in your throat, squeezing your eyes shut.
Botan quickly handed the plate in her hands to the ogre next to her.
You pressed your forehead to the edge of the table and took in a gasp of air. Botan rubbed your back gently, looking up at the rest of the gang. Every pair of eyes were sympathetic now, staring down at you with pity.
Yusuke sighed and looked away, running a hand through his hair, a look of guilt on his face.
Kurama stared at you with a look of sorrow on his, Kuwabara doing the same.
You silenced your self as best as you could, sitting up and holding your arm to your eyes. You gritted your teeth, gasping.
"Kouki...," Botan began as you stood. You dropped your arm and hurried to the door, opening it quickly.
You turned to them and wiped at the tears in your eyes, "I'm no weakling."
They stared at you with sad eyes.
"Don't look at me like that! I don't need anyone's pity!" you yelled, running out of veiw from them.
You ran for a while until you felt drained of your tears. You stopped and pressed your back against the wall to your left, slidding down to your bottom. You grabbed your knees and glared over them, lighting and dimming a small orb infront of you.
You continued until you remembered what Hiei had told you. You stood and wiped your eyes abit, not wanting to seem weak to him, too. You probably already did, but you didn't want it any worse.
You wondered aimlessly trough the halls until you finally connected with his mind.
"Hiei?"
"Are you lost again, Baka?"
You looked around the hall, a bit angry he would call you stupid.
"Why am I stupid, because I can't find my way around this ridiculously huge place or because I can't read?"
"Just follow my signal and stop being so personal."
You frowned and did as you were told, coming up to a door. You grabbed the knob and opened it. There was a very large room inside, filled with many things used to train people. A dummy, a punching bag, balance beams, spiked bags on rope, and much more.
You stared around in awe for a second, before your eyes landed on a small mass of black in one corner of the room.
Hiei stared at you with a blank face but you walked up to him, keeping his gaze.
As soon as you were close enough, he lifted his right hand, giving you a book.
You took it and stared down at it, "Is this a joke? It's not very funny."
"I'm not teasing you. I wouldn't so easily disgrace myself," he stated firmly.
"What are you doing then?" You asked, talking to Hiei was quite akward. He was very hard to talk to.
"I'm going to teach you how to read."
You stared blankly at him for a second. He said nothing as he waited for you to reply.
"Are you being serious with me?" you asked switching your weight from foot to foot.
"I don't joke around," He said, looking away from you. Your hopeful gaze was somehow making him regret his decision.
You lifted the book to your face, the words seemed like scribbles to you. You looked over it at Hiei who remained silent.
It seemed like a good enough, and useful, challenge.
"Thank you, Hiei. It means alot," you said, hugging the book to your chest as you smiled at him.
"Don't take it the wrong way, I just can't stand to have someone as old as you iliterate," he said, looking away from you.
"So when do I start learning?" You asked, ignoring his last statment.
His eyes flickered back to you, "Now."
--------------
"What dose this one say?" You asked, pointing to the word. So far you had learned and memorized the alphabet. You learned much quicker than any human alive. It was apart of your atrifical survival instinct. Learn quickly or be killed.
"Apple," He said, pointing to the sylables as he said it.
You comitted it to memory, then pointing to the next word, "And this?"
"Book," he said, doing the same as he had the last time.
"And this one?"you asked.
"Car."
The whole day went like that until you had learned quite a few words. You could read the whole book by the time you were finished. Hiei was pleased with it, but he didn't show it at all.
"I'll bring you a better book tommorrow," he said, standing up from his place beside you, "Keep that book and read it over and over again. You should be able to recite the whole book by memory by tommorrow morning."
You nodded and stood as well, having already memorized it.
"Do you want me to recite it to you tom-," you stopped as you turned and saw no one. Hiei had already gone, but only in a series of movements too fast for you to see.
You looked around the room for some sign of him but soon gave up and walked out of the door, heading to your room to practice.
You closed your bedroom door behind you, silently thanking Hiei for making the slightly better.
