I walked into the appliance shop and left the guys to wander. I was guessing they were looking for clothes for Hiei, considering he was violating the dress code. I got what I needed… another extremely heavy item…and went to Hot Topic. Just to look around. I had already bought my share of the day… the outfit, remember? There wasn’t anything new except for some necklace. It was cute, but I was probably going to buy it next week. I walked out of the store and started to head back when something on the ground caught my eye. I leaned over and picked it up. It looked kind of familiar. A chain bracelet with a dragon charm dangling off of it. I put it in my pocket and kept walking. I looked back and saw the boys just coming out of a clothes shop, Yusuke and Kuwabara snickering. Actually, Kuwabara sounded more like he was choking. I chuckled to myself and continued walking. I was sure they would get home okay. Hiei looked like he was about to kill them.
“HEY! TSUKU!” someone called. I whirled around. I saw someone behind the guys waving at me. Jaede. She made her way around the boys and started jogging towards me. I smiled and waved.
“Hi, Jae. What’re you doing here?”
“I came to see if you were alright. You haven’t been yourself since your mom died.” I cringed. I didn’t want to talk about it. It was too painful.
“I mean… look at you! You haven’t been eating… you look like a skeleton… and I can see right through that smile. It won’t fool me! I know you too well. You know that. And I know Katai won’t say it to your face, but he told me. He’s worried about you, too.”
“Listen, Jaede, I…”
“I don’t want to hear your excuses,” she said, her blue eyes flashing with partly anger, but mostly concern. She tugged at her silky blonde hair in exasperation… a habit of hers.
“Jaede… now really isn’t the time to be bringing this up,” I said, placing my hand on her shoulder. She got the message and nodded.
“…See you Monday,” I said, and jogged off before she could say anything else. I was halfway home when I stopped jogging and slowed to a walk. I heard footsteps behind me. I stopped.
“So… how much did you hear?” I asked, turning around to face the group.
“Well… I heard enough,” Yusuke said, hands in his pockets.
“You know what this means?”
“…No…?” I didn’t think I wanted to find out. It was the way he said it. He started walking towards me, that deadly look on his face. I took a step back. All of a sudden, he had his arm around my shoulder, and wore a goofy grin.
“Well, then we’re just going to have to help you with this!” he said, laughing.
“Uh…”
“I COMMAND YOU TO EAT,” he said, looking me dead in the eyes and using a deep voice.
“Uh… o-okay…” I said, not sure if he was even giving me a choice. We all walked the rest of the way home, joking and stuff. Hiei didn’t say anything, though. He just kind of stayed at the back. When we got to my house, I asked if they would like to come in.
“Well, duh!” said Yusuke.
“I need to keep you under close supervision. I’m gonna make sure you’re eating,” he said with an evil laugh.
“Ehehehe…” I put my hand behind my head, getting a sweatdrop. I held the door open for them then closed it behind me. I lugged the bag into the kitchen and set it on the counter.
“What is that, anyway?” Kuwabara asked.
“A new microwave. Our last one broke,” I said.
“Geez! And you can actually carry that?”
“Uh… yeah. It’s not really that heavy.”
“Huh. Lemme try.” Kuwabara picked the bag up off the counter. He almost instantly dropped it. I snatched it from him.
“We don’t need another one busted.” I took it out of the bag and positioned it on the counter. I pulled out the plug and plugged it into the microwave and the socket in the wall. I remembered the sacks I had gotten earlier and went to get them. I put those things away as well and wiped my forehead. I opened the cabinet door and pulled out the drinks and chips.
“Feel free to help yourselves to anything that’s edible,” I said, now looking in the fridge. I pulled out some onion dip and set it next to the chips. I stretched. Yusuke and Kuwabara had already started serving themselves, piling things on their paper plates.
“You want anything?” I asked, turning toward Hiei and Shuichi. Hiei had found the picture window to the backyard. He had pulled back the blinds and was now sitting on the window seat, looking out. It had started raining again. Shuichi shook his head.
“No. We’re fine.” Just then, Yusuke shoved a plate piled with food into my vision.
“Eat it,” he said, not giving me a choice. I took the plate and looked at what was on it. Sour Cream and Onion Lays and onion dip, two pears, a plum, some chicken wings and ketchup, onion rings, and an orange… which I instantly put back into the fruit bowl.
“Why aren’t you going to eat that?” Yusuke asked, obviously offended.
“Heh, heh. I’m sorry. I should have told you I’m allergic to oranges.”
“Oooh. Okay.” He started eating. He patted the seat next to him, indicating me to sit down. I did and started eating, and under close supervision of both Yusuke and Kuwabara.
“Man! You eat so slow,” Kuwabara complained. I chuckled to myself.
“Kuwabara told me you can carry a microwave,” Yusuke said, after he finished eating. I swallowed the bit of plum I was chewing.
“It’s not that heavy.”
“You don’t look like you could lift anything heavy,” Yusuke said, being very blunt. I started on the chips. I had almost forgotten what they tasted like. And all of a sudden, everything went quiet. I looked up. They were all looking at me… well… except Hiei. He remained looking out the window.
“Well?” asked Yusuke.
“Well what?” I asked, confused.
“Is it good?” he asked. I nodded.
“Great! Then I’m sure you’ll eat all of it! AHAHAHAHAHA!” he laughed, pleased that I was eating and slapping me on the back.
“O-okay, then,” I stuttered, finishing up my chips. I would have taken a step back form him, but I was sitting on a couch. So I just scooted away from him… only to bump into Kuwabara, who was sitting on my other side. I got up and went into the kitchen to throw away my empty plate. Someone followed me. I closed the trash can lid and turned around.
“Yes?” I asked. Shuichi stood there. Apparently, he had forgotten what he was going to say. Then he remembered.
“Might I ask where the bathroom is? Kuwabara is to… ahem… ‘manly’ to ask,” he whispered the last part, holding in a laugh. He seemed kind of embarrassed. I looked into the living room. Kuwabara looked petrified. His face was red and he was in the funniest position.
“Okay. Come with me,” I said, grabbing his hand and escorting him to the bathroom myself. Man, these guys acted so… strange. I mean, Shuichi’s fine… he just acts and talks so… modestly. I think Hiei is the only one that’s normal. I heard a loud ‘hn’ from the living room.
Okay… that was weird.
