The Country Is Dead(a fairy tale)

I've lived in these woods ever since I was born.. I loved this place, and I knew that it loved me back. I've had a special bond with every part of these woods. I'm a country girl... it'd be funny to see a girl like me in a place like that. There's no way you would ever see me there... until now. When I found out that I had to move to the city with my aunt, I was heartbroken. Leaving these woods would mean leaving a part of myself behind. I don't want to move... I really don't... and he doesn't want me to either.

“Are you all packed and ready, Nickie?” asked Father.

I nodded, a solemn expression still visible on my face.

Giving me a sympathetic look, he put his hand on my shoulder.

“I know that this is going to be a big change for you, and I know your going to miss this place too, but your mother and I only wishing the best for you there.” he said in a comforting manner

I nodded once again, already knowing it would be useless to argue.

“Why don't you go outside for a bit?” he suggested, knowing that I would miss the outdoors as soon as I left.

I gave him a small smile, “Sure.”

He sat at her favorite place, waiting for her to come. Even though he knew she couldn't see him, he still enjoyed her presence. He knew almost everything about her: her likes, dislikes, hobbies, her favorite places, and even more, but that wasn't enough for him. Often, he would wish that he could be with her, talking to her, know that she knew he was there.

'Well, there'll be a time for that... as soon as I become king,' he thought to himself.

Yes, as soon as he became the king, they'd be together for sure. Nothing would get in his way once he ruleld- no one.

Hearing a rustle coming from a nearby path, he suddenly became alert. She was here.

My eyes were slightly teary as I ran from my house.

'The city couldn't possibly measure to my wonderful woods,' I thought, running to the place that I knew best.

That was a fact that I was sure of. What beauty did the city have? Sure they had tons of concrete there, but the woods had animals, trees, and nature. Concrete could never beat nature.

Stumbling slightly on the path, I found that I had arrived at my favorite spot in the woods: the brook. Knowing that I was alone, I finally let all the tears fall.

“I don't want to leave,” I whimpered, “I don't.”

His eyes widened from shock. She was leaving?

'No... she can't!' he thought with slight panic.

He knew her ever since she was small. He was there to watch her grow up, but... leaving now-

'NO!!!! She's probably just... going for a quick trip! She'll be back!'

“I don't want to move to the city,” she cried, “I want to stay here. Tomorrow's too soon...”

'Move... that doesn't mean a quick trip... and tomorrow too.. she can't! I won't let her...'

I sat at the base of the brook, enjoying the sounds of the moving water. My tears had dried up by now, but the sorrow still lingered. Somehow, my thoughts drifted to my aunt. I've met her a few times, and from what I could tell, she wasn't really a bad lady. She was pretty, smart, and witty, but the one thing I disliked about her was her disapproval of nature. I couldn't see anything wrong with my woods, but apparently she did. She disliked all the bugs and shrubs, thinking that they were all unneeded.

'They aren't unneeded!' I mentally proclaimed.

I knew that the two needed each other to survive... if they didn't, neither would we.

“Nickie! Are you there? It's time for dinner!” I heard my mother call from our nearby house.

Gently pulling myself up, I stood in the same spot for a moment. Who knows how long it would be before I came back. Before I turned to towards the path home, I felt warmth surround me... as if... someone was embracing me, holding me close. I slightly leaned in towards the warmth. It made me feel so calm, so safe.

Before I could stop the words from coming out of my mouth, I whispered, “Goodbye.”

He felt a small smile creep onto his face as she leaned into his embrace.

“Goodbye,” she whispered softly.

If he didn't know better, he might've believed that she knew that he was there, but from he knew past experiences that she wouldn't see him unless he wanted her to.

'This wont be the last time we meet,' he thought, holding the girl in his arms a little longer.

As soon as it came, I felt the warmness leave me. I smiled before I began to walk home.

“Hello, dear. Did you have fun?” my mother greeted me as soon as I went into the kitchen.

I gave her a pleasant smile as I nodded, “It was wonderful.”

Her eyes widened a bit, as if in shock, but she smiled anyways, “That's good, dear.”

“What's for dinner? I'm so hungry!”

“That doesn't sound good. Your mother and I know how much you eat when you're hungry,” Father said jokingly from the kitchen entrance.

“Let's eat then!” I said with glee.

I can't explain it, but somehow.... somehow I know that things will brighten up. Ever since I felt that warmth, I can't help but feel like everything's going to be alright.

I took a glance towards the window facing the woods.

'It's not over yet.'

He watched as she sat in that little room and ate with her parents. His eyes were glued to you as you laughed with the other people.

“You may leave this place, but I'm not going to let you leave me,” he murmmered softly before leaving to prepare.

'It isn't over yet.'

1 he cant see her cause hes a fairy(i kno sounds weird but he is)fairys cant bee seen by humans unless they want them too
2well fairys have these things called courts like a night court,day court, summer court or even winter court nd hes gonna b king of one....i think she hasnt told me the ending yet anyways
