8:32 AM

Rizzo's eyes blinked open slowly, her eyes blurry with sleep, and slowly adjusting to the light coming in from the window beside her. Confused on why the light shined so brightly in the room confused her, and she hesitantly sat up, looking around her.

She first expected to see the plain room of her old home, with many unkempt beds and cold floors. But instead, the strange view of a different room came into her sights. White carpets, beautifully decorated walls, even bookshelves and toys.

It took a few seconds, but Rizz quickly remembered where she was, and gave a small nod of her head.

Yawning, covering her mouth and wiping the resulting tears from her eyes, Rizz started to get up, pushing the soft down feather blankets from her. Once they were, she climbed out of the adult sized bed, and landed on the floor below her. Looking back at the messy bed, she then crawled atop it once more, making sure to make it nice and made before continuing with her morning routine.

After smoothing down any and all wrinkles in the pink flowered bed sheets, Rizz made her way to the bathroom, making sure to pick out some new clothes from her suitcase (She reminded her self that she needed to unpack sometime today. In her room was a beautiful white handcrafted dresser.). Once inside, she bent over the bathtub, plugging it, and turning both hot and cold knobs until the water was perfect.

As her morning bath filled, she walked to the sink, now brushing her teeth. She wouldn't bother with her hair right now, as it would be getting wet any second.

Now it was time to clean. Once in the bath, she dunked her head under the warm water, running her hands through her short blonde hair, soaking it. Returning to the surface, she grabbed one of the shampoos that were on the bathtubs rim, obviously put there by either Wammy or Rodger before her arrival. She squirted the goo into her hands, smelling it. Strawberry scented.

Rather, rinse, don't bother with repeat. Rizz washed her hair, dunking her head beneath water again to rinse, and do the same with the posh-pink colored conditioner.

Finally, she was done cleaning, and stepped from the bath water, unplugging the plug. While the sound of running water made it's way through the bathroom, Rizz dried herself off, putting on her new clothes, which was now just a maroon tank top that had a white ribbon bow in the middle of the neck, and some blue jeans. Nothing to spectacular, but Rizz owned nothing spectacular anyway.

Finishing with dressing, Rizz returned to the sink, now looking into the mirror. Picking up a small hairbrush, she started to brush her now soft hair.

As she was finishing with that, a thought occurred in her mind, making her pout slightly.

She would normally not care for her hair. As long as it was clean, it was fine; fashion was never a big part of her views.

But...

Memories of last night filled her mind. That boy...

Would she try and pretty herself up all for a boy she met just last night?

She pulled on her hair. To short to tie up in a ponytail, to short to do pigtails, to short to even braid. Normally, Rizzo loved her short hair; it was easy to deal with. But for once, she actually wished she didn't cut it so short.

"Ah well..." she thought, going to her suitcase again. Digging into the front pouch. Out of the pouch, she pulled out two small red berets. Nothing too special, but a present from a friend back at her old home, there was even three different colors; Red, blue, and a green. Rizz never really had a reason to wear them.... Well, that is, until now.

Going back into the bathroom, she brushed and placed the berets into her hair. Now looking at her appearance, Rizz sighed. She felt silly dressing up for someone, let alone a boy.

But either way, the hair accessories were in, and she might as well leave them there.

Cleaning up her mess in the bathroom, and walking back into her room, she looked around to see if there was anything else she could do. Yes, there was her clothes, but she was already going to do that later.

A small growl left her stomach, causing her to look down. Of course! She hadn't eaten once since she arrived!

Giggling slightly, she walked towards the door, wondering if exploring the house in the daylight was any different then at night.

====================

The kitchen.

Rizzo's legs automatically seemed to lead her here. Weither it was because of the food, or that boy, she didn't know.

Once there, she looked around, wondering what she would make for her breakfast. She slightly wondered if breakfast is made for all children at once, and if she had missed this mornings meal. But, a small plate on one of the counters changed her mind.

Rizz walked over, and looked at the plate. It was a beautiful crystal plate with a glass topper covering the food inside. Atop the plate was a rather large piece of cake, looking exactly like the one her and the boy made last night. Next to the plate was a small piece of paper, the word "Rizzo" written messily on it.

A smile spread across her face as she picked up the plate. It was a big piece, heavy, and she knew she probably wouldn't be able to eat it all.

She haled the large piece of cake over to a tall bar like table, and sat it atop it. Then, crawling into the tall stool, she stared at the cake. It did look good. But for someone of her size to eat so much of it, she would definitely get a stomachache and toothache at the same time.

But, knowing it was from the boy from before, Lawliet, she took a bite anyway.

The sides of her cheeks tingled, making her pucker. The sweet taste was strong, almost to much. The swirling flavors of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla made a luxurious taste, and Rizzo couldn't believe it was her and a boy the age of eight made something like this. It tasted like something you would buy at a gourmet bakery!

The taste guided her to eat more, until, astonishingly, she ate the whole thing.

Sure, it tasted good, but as the ate the last bite, she could feel her stomach yelling at her for eating such a large amount of sugar at one time.

A sudden feeling of illness came over her, and she had to get up. Once in a standing position, the feeling of nausea started to go away, and she decided that she might as well walk around a bit, until her stomach decided it was ok to digest the three pounds of pure sugar she just ate.

The time to explore was once again put on Rizzo. There were still a few rooms she hadn't explored earlier last night, so she started off in a new direction this time. The mansion looked big on the outside, sure, but once inside you would find that it has much more to give then you'd think.

Soon, her she finally found herself looking into the playroom she had been in before, the same one she had seen the painting young woman. There were a few kids inside, many of them reading or chatting, but this is not what Rizzo was looking at. Sitting, weirdly, far in the right hand side of the room, was the boy from last night. He sat, holding up a small book in an odd way, his dark eyes scanning the words quickly.

A quick smile appeared on her face, as well as a quick blush, which she quickly shook off before walking over to the boy; she didn't want him to think of her as some weird girl who simply wanted to spend time with a boy she had met one day earlier - even if that was the case.

The boy didn't look up when she got there, but he did seem to move his body to the side a bit, almost as if noting she was there, and trying to make himself hidden. Rizzo, though, didn't notice the boy's timid body language, and came closer to him, smiling shyly and holding up her hand in a half-wave.

"Hey, again..." She said, now putting her hand down, and walking in front of the boy, so she was now in his view. "I got you're treat." A small laugh came from her, wondering if he knew she was talking about the cake.

Obviously he did, since he nodded slightly, not even taking the time to look up at her. A small "Hmm.." sound came from Rizzo. She pondered about the boy's shyness towards her. Perhaps he just had a bad past? Yes, that must be it. Many of her friends from her last orphanage were distant and shy, caused by their abusive parents, death of loved ones, or other terrible things. Rizzo knew she probably couldn't get an explanation from the boy just yet, but she mentally noted to be more careful around him, and try her best not to hit a sour nerve if there was one.

Slowly, she sat beside the boy on the ground, except sitting in the normal human way of crisscrossing her legs. She wanted to make conversation, so she decided to at least speak until an idea hit her.

"So, ah... Lawli--"

A quick hand met her mouth, softly but still startling her. She looked down at the hand, then looked across to the boy who had done so.

"Don't say my name please, at least not here." He spoke, softly and in such a intellectual manner, just like the night before. But the way he had said it caused Rizzo to let out a small laugh.

"Well, why?" she asked, pushing the boy's hand back to him. "Are you some type of secret agent? Do you have a code name?" She was joking, and giggling slightly, but only to look into the eyes of the very serious boy.

"Yes, actually." He stated, monotone. "Call me L from now on, please."

Rizzo stared, confused and disbelieving at the boy. He was probably playing some sort of game. "Yea..." Rizzo thought to herself, her stare not fleeing the boys dark eyes."A role playing game? Maybe he is playing cops and robbers... Hmm, what ever, I'll play along until he tells me the real reason..."

A smile appeared on her face as she nodded at the boy, L. "Fine then."

He didn't say anything back, only looked back to his book, reading again, letting the room be consumed by the awkward silence again.

Rizzo sighed now, not liking the noiselessness that floated around them. She had to think of some type of conversation or else she would go insane with intense boredom in this house...

"So... you really like sweets don't you?" she asked, trying to seem nonchalant. Thankfully, the boy finally looked over, as if she just told him a spoiler to a very important book.

"Yea... so?" he said, as if he thought she was disgusted by his weird addiction.

Rizzo only laughed, shaking her head. "I was just asking... you made that cake last night, and it was very good... I was just wondering if you did that often."

It was now L's turn to shake his head. "No... normally I don’t bake my own sweets, Whammy has a nice cabinet full of some... but I thought it was a special event, so I gave it a try..." He kept talking, his voice was so calm, yet called to Rizzo in a way she didn’t understand just yet. Just the sound of his voice made Rizzo want to blush and giggle, but she tried her best to keep any and all composure as she talked to the shy and timid boy.

She smiled at his words, nodded while he talked. She couldn’t help but love to listen to him...

Finally, he was done explaining his strange addiction to her, telling her his belief that it made him think better, as did the way he sat and the way he slept. The words "strange" and "odd" came up in Rizzo's mind, of course, but she kept all those thoughts to herself.

"Would you like to try some?" he asked, out of the blue, snapping Rizzo from any previous ponderings. She looked up at the boy, who was now standing and looking down to her, his hair spiking oddly from it.

"O-oh.." Rizzo stammered, not really knowing what to say. "Well... If its not to much of a bother, I'd love to!" she said, smiling.

The sides of his lips seemed to quiver slightly, almost as if a smile begged to come out of him as well. But, he looked away before it could happen, and turned his body away. "I have to go, for now... but I will get some for you..." He said, as if it was no big deal, and started to walk away.

Quickly, Rizzo stood to her feet, and called after him. "W-wait! Where are you going, I was having fun talking with you!"

He stopped, only for a second, as if he was thinking, then shrugged. "Can't really say..." And with that, he walked away from her, not giving her an explanation.

Rizzo crossed her arms and gave a "Hmmph!" How dare he leave her alone and bored once more?!

Sighing, and looking around her, Rizzo knew she had to occupy her self with something... and began to look around at the many books the library had, hoping that something would pike her interest.

====================

Nothing to interesting, at least to Rizzo, could be found in the library, and she found that most of her time was spent outside the giant house, playing with small animals such as the birds and squirrels that decided to venture onto the home's property.

And not soon after she had finally begun to have fun, the sun was on it's way to it's resting place, leaving the moon to light Rizzo's way back to the house.

Once inside, she started her normal walk back to her room, deciding herself that it was time for her to go to sleep. It was only her second day in the orphanage, and the place was already beginning to feel like home...

She walked into the hallway that led to her room, and looked a head of her. A look of shock and confusion showed on her face as she looked towards her door, as there was a small cloth-tied gift sitting in front of it.

Walking faster now, Rizzo got to her door, and looked down at the parcel. It seemed to be a small box, tied quickly and clumsily with what seemed to be a sheet of some kind. It was tied at the top, showing that whoever had done it probably had no artistic side.

Picking it up, Rizzo opened her door, walking in and setting the box onto her bed. She climbed up, and sat in front of it, untying the box's wrappings with care, as if there was a bomb inside.

Like she thought, the box was just you're ordinary everyday cardboard moving box. Pulling apart the cardboard flaps, she peered inside, her eyes growing wide.

Inside the box were many different kinds of gourmet treats and cakes. All of them looking like they were made in an expensive kitchen, with icing like lace on all of them.

A smile crept onto her face as she looked at the note sitting atop the sweets. In messy penmanship, the same from the cake piece before, read "Thought you might like these..."

"So he was thinking of me?..." Rizzo said, blushing and giggling like any child would with a crush. She looked down at the sweets, each one of them looking more delicious and sweeter then the last.

Her hand went inside, hovering over them. "I wonder which one... I should try first..."

==========To Be Continued==========

This took me awhile to write.

And in the end, I feel I got nothing done within it.

Ah well...

I have this bad habit of calling L "the boy". I think this is because Rizzo does not know much about L yet, and saying "the boy" leaves some sense of mystery about him. I am sorry if me saying "the boy" bothers you, haha, cuz it tends to bother me too.

Next chapter will have more action, drama, and people in it. This was almost a filler.

Meh. It was my first chapter after my big leave without a computer. Feels nice to finally finish something again! :D
