Watching from behind a spiked fringe of white hair, was a teenage girl named Matilda. With long, straight snow white hair, and blazing red eyes, she seemed like she would be one not to mess with. As it would be, she wasn’t.
In fact, she was the complete opposite.
Matilda was kind and gentle, never wanting to hurt a fly. She was the average height for 16, and the average weight too.
She never put herself first, considering other people more important. She didn’t like to voice her opinions, and didn’t like to talk.
This young woman was not particularly energetic, but, she didn’t mind going for a swim now and again, or playing some kind of sport.
Matilda, or Matt, as her mother called her, had just moved to the Hoenn region. Matt was now standing outside her new home; small house submerged in the forest near Little Root town.
Looking over to her mother who was currently paying the mover with a sad look on her face. Matt walked over to her mother, and stood beside her as the mover opened the back for them, and began taking out the boxes.
Overall, there was only about 10 medium sized boxes. 2 had Matt’s clothes and books and such, 2 for her mother clothes and keepsakes, 2 with food and the remaining 4 filled with other items you may find in houses.
After the mover had removed them all, he drove away, leaving the two females to carry them into the appropriate rooms within the house.
“Matt, honey, how do you like our new home? Its not as luxurious as your fathers of course…” Matt’s mom asked.
Matt smiled at her mother. “I think it’s lovely.” She answered, smile still upon he face.
Her mother smiled in return.
“Im glad to hear. Well, lets get sorted out, im sure you’ll want to leave on your ‘adventure’ soon, right?” Mom said.
“Yes, but I still don’t feel right about leaving you here…” Matt replied anxious.
“Matt, I’ll be fine. This place is by far away from where he’ll find us.” Mom said reassuringly. Matt nodded.
“ok. Wait a second…” Matt stopped her mother. “I thought the movers pokemon could help us.”
Mom gave Matt a sad look, the same she had given to the mover.
“It was an additional fee for the pokemon…” She whispered. Matt nodded.
Since they basically grabbed the money Matt’s mother had stowed away and went, there wasn’t much. The house itself cost nearly everything they had.
Matt put a reassuring hand on her mothers shoulder, and they both made their way inside to unpack.

Stepping up to the basin, Matt looked at herself in the mirror. She had a plain face, if anything. Except for the large rings around her eyes. She usually had these rings, because of her condition.
Matt was an Insomniac, unable to sleep if she didn’t have her medication. Unfortunately, she had forgotten them, and would have to get some more as she passed through the next town.
Matt came out of the bathroom, sighing tiredly. She had been able to sleep for the whole trip, so, she was unbearably tired. Slumping over slightly, she sluggishly walked over to her newly packed back pack. Inside was a large bag of lolly pops.
Even with Matt’s meds, she was still tired most of the day, so, she always had lolly pops handy.
Putting the sugary treat into her mouth, she went downstairs, to see if her mother wanted any help with anything before Matt was to leave on her exciting and wonderful adventure.
Though Matt would never admit it, she wasn’t to happy about this trip.
There was a few things hated in this world. Greed, for one thing, but more so the stuck up rich people that have ALLLL the money they could every wish for, but desire more.
Matt’s father was one of those people. Bringing down everyone and everything around him, just so he could have more money to drown himself in.
Matt detested rich people in general. She had seen so many while she was living with her father that it wasn’t funny. Each one bragging of how many stocks they had in this company, how many said companies they had taken over, and over and over and over again. It made Matt sick to the stomach when young, rich boys came before her, trying to sway her with money. She new one thing was for sure. It wasn’t her they wanted. It was the massive fortune she was bound to inherit when her father died.
Millions of dollars, billions even of money SHE DIDN’T WANT.
Money had corrupted the people she cared so desperately about. Her father, for one thing, and she almost lost her mother to the dark temptation of being able to acquire all and everything she wanted.

Matt slung her backpack over her should, carefully stepping down the stairs. Her mom was in the kitchen. Matt sat down at the dinning table.
“anything you wanted me to do before I leave?” Matt asked quietly.
“no, dear, but…” Mom replied. “I have something for you…”
Matt gave her mom a confused look. Her mother disappeared for a bit, pulling something out of one of the boxes. There was a black waist pouch, with 4 good sized pockets, and two larger ones at the back. With the pouch, was a small black and white device. A PokeNav.
Matt looked at the gifts, then at her mother.
“mom…you shouldn’t have!” Matt exclaimed.
“but I did, honey. You have a big journey ahead. I can’t send you into it without the right things, can I?” Mom replied, holding back tears. Tears ran down Matt’s face as she jumped up from her seat, and hugged her mother tightly.
“Mom…” Matt sobbed.
“its ok honey.” He mom replied, her voice shaking. “go and make me proud.”
“ok…” Matt whispered, wiping away her tears as she put the pouch around her waist, and the PokeNav into the first pocket.
Following her mother, Matt walked to the front of the house. She took a deep breath, and turned to her mother.
“Good bye, Matilda.” Mom cried as Matt began her lonesome walk towards the local professor lab. Tears slid down Matt’s cheeks as she heard her mom shuffle inside the house sadly.
It took every Matt had not to run back to her mother, and never leave. But Matt had a mission.
And as sure as anything, she was going to complete it.

Matt looked at the large laboratory in front of her. Taking a quick breath, she knocked on the door. A small man, wearing a lab coat and glasses answered the door.
“Yes?” He asked.
“I was looking for the professor.” She replied, uneasy.
The man disappeared inside of the building for a bit, before returning.
“The professor appears to be out. Check his house.” The man said quickly, before closing the door. Matt gulped and made her way further into the town.

After asking around, she finally managed to find the professors house. She knocked on the door, feeling a little anxious. A boy, around Matt’s age answered the door. He had white hair too, but it appeared to be dyed as such.
“Whats up?” the boy asked, his eyes transfixed on Matt’s, or more of the rings around them.
“um…I was wondering if…um…if professor birch was in?” Matt stumbled quietly.
“No, sorry, he’s doing fiel- oh crap…” The boy cursed.
“sorry?” Matt apologized. The boy shook his head.
“no, no, no, its not you…im supposed to be helping my father catch pokemon…I better go. Uh, what’s your name?” The boy asked in a hurry.
“Matt.” Matt replied. The boy raised his eyebrow at Matt.
“right, well, Im Brendan. I have to go now though. Nice meeting you!” He called out as he ran passed Matt and down a path leading outside of Little Root.
Matt sighed. This was going to be difficult, and it was already getting late. Matt needed to get to a Poke Mart before it got to late and closed.
Hurrying off, Matt pulled another lolly pop out of her pouch, which she had filled with the sweets on her way here; and began making her way towards another entrance to the forest.
It was obvious to Matt, that if she wanted something done, she would have to do it herself.

Trees flashed passed Matt as she ran as fast as she could through the town. She had checked most of the areas, but was yet to find the elusive Professor.
Finally, as to aid her search, a young girl stopped in front of Matt.
“lady, can you please help?! I can hear someone shouting in the forest, but I cant go in there cause I don’t have a pokemon…” The little girl pleaded as she pointed to another path leading into a clearing. Sure enough, the muffled sounds of shouting could be heard.
“Of course. Stay here, ok?” Matt told the little girl, bending down to her height. The little girl nodded, as Matt stood up, and bolted in the direction the girl had pointed.
Matt arrived at the scene, to find a brown haired man in a lab coat being chased by a small, dog like pokemon.
“H-Help me!” The man cried, stumbling as the dog continued to chase him. Matt ran over and looked at him.
“Please help! In the bag over there, there’s poke balls!” the man told Matt, before being cornered by the dog. Matt quickly ran over to the bag, and noticed 3 poke balls had spilled out. One had a leaf on it, one had a water drop and the other had an ember on it.
Matt quickly picked up any one, in this case being the green. She pressed the button and with a flash of red light, another creature had appeared.
It resembled a lizard. It had a light green body, yellow eyes, a red belly and a dark green tail. The pokemon yawned slightly, and stretched, before maintaining a ready position.
“um…” Matt hesitated, the pokemon looking to her for orders.
“It’s a Treeko! Get him to use pound!” The man yelled over the top of the pokemon loud barking.
“Treeko, use pound?” Matt told Treeko, unsure. The pokemon sighed, and jumped into the air, bringing its tail down hard onto the dog. The dog growled at it, trying to threaten it. It didn’t work to well though.
“Treeko, use pound again!” Matt commanded, more sure of herself this time.
The Treeko jumped into the air, and once again brung its tail down onto the dog. The dog stumbled, but, it wasn’t beaten yet. It leapt forward, knocking over Treeko.
“Treeko! Get out of there and use pound!” Matt instructed the Pokemon, who nodded determined. Treeko managed to jump away from the dog, and leap into the air, smashing its tail down hard enough to finish the battle. The dog fainted, and Treeko jumped in the air, triumphant. The man walked over to Matt, laughing nervously.
“Whew, that was lucky. I was in the tall grass, studying, and this pokemon jumped out and attacked me!” He told Matt.
“you saved me, thanks a lot.” He thanked, smiling.
“Its alright, Professor Birch I presume?” Matt replied quietly. The man nodded.
“yep. Which means…That your Matilda?” The professor asked. Matt nodded.
“So, your probably wanting to get your first pokemon. Well, lets head back to the lab. We can get everything sorted out there.” The professor told Matt, who nodded, following the professor back to the lab.
