Together they stand at the final hour
They teach a lesson of pain and loss
There you will find them beneath the cross.
The church bells were ringing as people paraded onto the holy grounds. There was laughter and there was crying.
It had all melded into the same thing at this point.
But, the most noticeable, and at the same time unnoticeable thing there were two children sitting on the swings. The two had been silent and just swung together.
One wore a pale pink dress with black ribbons and white gloves.
While the other wore black with an expressionless mask.
They swung in silence, until the girl in pink spoke, her voice was light, like the spring breeze that seemed to dance around the playground.
“Why are you here?”
The girl in black was silent looking at the ground; she spoke quietly her voice almost lost.
“Why are you here?”
The girl in pink smiled a happy smile, as her swing started to bring her closer and closer to the clouds. She seemed almost to be flying away.
“My Mommy is getting married to my new Daddy,” she shouted down to the girl in black.
“So why are you here?”
The girl in black sat on the swing looking at the ground.
“My Mommy and Daddy are in heaven.”
The girl in pink continued to swing looking at the clouds and the sky smiling to her self as she thought for a moment. She let go of the swing and went flying into the air.
The girl landed on the ground in the sand box, she stood up and looked over at the girl and black and grinned.
“Hey, do you want to be friends with me?”
The girl in black looked up; a small smile seemed to break onto her face as she to move away from the swing walking over towards the sand box.
“Sure.”
The two looked at the church and for a moment, it seemed that everything was fine, the world had faded and they were safe.
For the remainder of the time, thee two played, chasing each other around, laughing and doing all that they could to have fun until a call came from the church.
“Coming Mama,” the girl in pink yelled as she looked over towards the girl and black and smiled waving good-bye as she ran across the street.
The girl in black heard her name and turned walking towards the cemetery with her mask.
The two walked away from each other, but the wind kept dancing, for they were to become part of something bigger.
