Friday, July 4th

Before the party…

“Wear this one,” Nicole said. As soon as school got out I had Brian give me a ride to her house and we were in the process of picking out what we would wear.

“I don’t like that on.”

“Oh come on! Just wear it!”

I sighed, grabbed the bathing suit, and walked into the bathroom. I changed into the red and white bathing suit and walked out.

“It’s so cute!”

I sighed and looked in the mirror. It was kind of cute. “Okay, I’ll wear it.”

She squealed and we began searching for an outfit to wear over it. In the end my out fit consisted of a red tube top and black shorts to go over my red and white poka doted bathing suit, and Nicole’s consisted of a blue tube top and denim shorts to go over her blue poka doted bathing suit.

“We’re twins!”

“Yup. Except I’m red and you’re blue,” I stated.

She laughed. “When is your cousin coming to pick us up?”

“Why does he need to pick us up? Can’t we walk?”

“But then how are they going to know where to go?”

“Oh yeah…I’ll call him.” I said and dialed Brian’s number.

“Hello?” The voice on the other line wasn’t Brian.

“Alex, where’s Brian?”

“Right here.”

“Can I talk to him?”

“You don’t want to talk to me?”

“Not right now.”

“Ow, that hurt.”

“Well I’ll kiss it when you guys get here.”

“Fine,” he said and gave the phone to Brian.

“Hello?”

“Come pick us up!”

“Hold on. We’re waiting for Jay.”

“Give me his number and I’ll call him.”

Brian gave me the number.

“Hello?” Jay asked when it started ringing.

“Hurry up! Brian said he can’t leave without you!”

“Holly? How’d you get my number?”

“Brian, but that’s besides the point! Hurry up and get to Brian’s!”

“Okay.”

“…Are you out of the door yet?”

“I’m in front of it.”

“Hurry up and get out of it!”

“Okay I’m out!”

“Now go to Brian’s.”

“Yes ma’am!”

I hung up and called Brain.

“Yes?”

“He’s on his way.”

“Okay.”

“Okay bye,” I said and hung up before waiting for a response.

“Come here,” Nicole said.

“Why?”

“Because I’m going to pull up your hair.”

“Kay,” I said and let her pull my hair up in a sloppy bun. She decided to put a little red eye shadow on me to match my out fit, then she put a little blue on.

After we finished we waited for Brian outside.

“Dude, Matt’s going to be all over you.”

“Ew, then I’m going to change.”

“No don’t!”

“I’m gonna change into baggy clothes.”

“Come on, Holly! I know you like him.”

“Not really.”

“Why not? He’s so hot!”

“Not really.”

I was about to walk inside and change when Brian pulled up.

“Come on!” he yelled from the drivers seat.

I sighed and walked to the car. I climbed into the back next to Jay.

“Hey cutie,” Nicole said to Brian as she climbed in next to me.

I made gagging noises and she hit me on the arm.

“Weren’t you supposed to give me a kiss?” Alex asked.

I sighed and kissed him on the cheek. “There.”

“Cheater.”

Nicole laughed.

Nicole told Brian where to go, and after many wrong turns we arrived at the party.

“Holly! Nicole!”

“Brant!” Nicole shouted at our brunette friend.

“Hey Holls. How are you?” he asked as he hugged me.

“Good, you?”

“Eh.” I laughed lightly at his response.

“Here comes Matt,” Nicole said.

I groaned.

“Hey Holly. Hey Nicole.”

“Hi Matt,” Nicole said.

She elbowed me. “Hi Matt.”

“Whose this?” he asked and pointed to the three boys we had arrived with.

“This is Brian, he’s Holly’s cousin.” Nicole explained. “This is Alex, and this is…”

”Jay.”

I looked at witch ever boy was closest to me. Jay. I grabbed his hand and Matt noticed.

“Nice to meet you guys,” he said and walked away.

Nicole was glaring at me and Jay was giving me a confused look.

I smiled and dropped Jay’s hand.

“Holly,” Nicole said, “ that wasn’t nice.”

“If you had someone who wouldn’t leave you alone no matter how many times you told him to you would do the same thing.”

Jay understood what was going on now.

“No I wouldn’t.”

“Yes you would.”

Brian started laughing.

“No I wouldn’t.”

“Nicole, I know you would. If you had some freak that wouldn’t leave you alone no matter how many times you said leave me alone you would do the same.”

She continued to glare at me. “Matt, can we go inside and change?”

”Yeah.”

Nicole and I walked inside and took off our shorts and shirts. She kept her shoes on, but I left mine next to my clothes.

I tried to talk to her but she ignored me. “Fine, if it will make you feel better I’ll go ‘break up’ with Jay and make sure Matt sees.”

She smiled. “Okay.”

I groaned.

When I found Jay I dragged him through the crowd until I found Matt.

“Jay, I don’t think this is going to work out,” I said loudly. Matt’s head shot in our direction.

“Why?”

“It’s not you it’s me.” I said trying to keep a strait face. As far as I could tell so was he.

“But Holly,” he said and grabbed my hands before pulling them to his chest.

“No Jay.” I pulled away and walked in a different direction. Jay did the same.

We pushed our way through the huge crowd and met up on the other side.

When we spotted each other we started laughing our asses off.

“Wow, neither one of us can act.” I stated.

“Nope.”

I found Nicole and told her. “Good Holly.”

“Now will yo-” I was cut off when Brian thought it would be funny to pick me up and throw me in the pool.

“Brian!” I shouted when I got out.

He was laughing along with Jay, Alex, Nicole, and Brant.

“That wasn’t funny!”

“No it wasn’t,” Brian, said, “it was hilarious.”

“Brian, can I have a hug?” I asked.

He looked at me. I walked over and hugged him.

“Holly! Now I’m wet.”

“I’m sorry,” I said as I slowly led him to the pool without him noticing. I pushed him in.

“Holly!” He yelled when his head popped up.

“Brian!” He glared at me. I smiled and walked over to talk to Nicole.

It had just gotten dark and the fireworks were starting.

Everyone ‘Ooohed’ and ‘Awed’ when the first firework was set of in the air.

I stole a glance at Nicole who was making out with Brian.

“Ewww,” I said.

“What?” Alex asked. I pointed at Nicole and Brian.

“Ewww.” We both laughed.

When we were done with our laughing fit I started searching for Jay. When I found him he was sucking face with some chick.

“Ewww.”

Alex looked over at Jay. “Wow he recovers fast.”

I laughed.

After the fire works we went back to he party.

I was on my fourth cup of whatever there was to drink and I was feeling tipsy.

“Hey Holly,” Matt said.

“Hey, cutie.”

He smiled. “What’s up?”

“Nothing.”

We continued to talk about nothing and before I knew it we were making out next to the pool.

“Oh, Holly.” Nicole said. I pulled away from Matt and glared at her. She stumbled over to us.

“Go find Brian,” I said.

“Okay,” she walked away and I went back to kissing Matt.

The whole party reminded me of the music video for ‘Control’ by Metro Station. People were running around, making out, and some were making their way up stairs.

I went to find my phone so I could call my mom.

“Hey mom, we’re going to stay at a friends house.” I had hopped my voice didn’t sound to slurred.

“Okay sweetie.”

“Love you bye.” I said and hung up.

I found Matt and began making out with him yet again.

Midnight

“Come on Holly,” I heard Alex say.

I was passed out on the floor.

I reached for his hand and he lifted me up.

He took me to the car where everyone else was passed out.

I climbed into the passengers seat and rested my head on the cold window.

Alex climbed in drivers seat. “You okay?”

I shook my head.

“Okay, well, we’ll be to Brian’s soon.”

I nodded.

When we got there I stumbled out of the car and ran into the bathroom. I went to the toilet and spilt the contents that were in my stomach into bowl.

I heard footsteps and felt someone hold my hair back.

When I was done the person lifted me up. “Are you okay?” Alex asked. I nodded and fumbled through the drawers for a spare toothbrush. When I found one I began to brush my teeth.

Alex waited for me. When I was done he helped me back.

“Where’s Nicole?” I asked.

“She followed Brian to his room.”

“Jay?”

“He took the spare bedroom.”

“Where are you going to sleep?”

“You and I are going to sleep in the living room.”

“Oh.”

He laughed.

When we got into the living room he said I could have the couch, but I said no and in the end we both were laying on the ground.

I curled up next to Alex and felt his arm wrap around my waist.

”Alex, why do you have pointed teeth?”

There was a pause. “Because.”

“Because why?”

“Just because.”

“Why won’t you tell me?”

“Ask Brian tomorrow.”
