Playing House: Fire and Ice [Chapter 4]
Chapter 7 : Playing House: Fire and Ice [Chapter 6]
In the previous chapter, Kira and Kodak figured out each one likes the other, thanks to Art telling Kira his story. But Art left out one thing: his older brother, who is lost in the Land of Fire. What is the 'family' going to do about that?
{Ivan's Point of View}
Art, Elam, and I listened to Princess Kira's and Kodaks' conversation from the food chamber. Elam couldn't believe his ears. He had a crush on the Princess, just as Kodak did.
I liked her, too, but I didn't want to lose a friendship with the Princess.
Art seemed thrilled that he had a mother and father again. Elam and I had listened to his story earlier. We felt bad for the little guy.
Elam looked down at Art, "So, you want Ivan and I to be your big brothers?"
The boy nodded, smiling, "Yep," he said enthusiastically. He was grinning from ear to ear.
Elam looked at me, "Well, I don't really see a problem with it." He laughed, "We could start teasing Kodak. Besides, you and me are basically brothers already."
I nodded in agreement. It really wouldn't be too different. Not my relationship with Elam, anyway.
Art looked up at me, "I still get to keep my other big brother, too, right?"
Elam blinked, "You have a brother?"
Art nodded, "Yeah. He went over to the Land of Fire. That's what my old daddy told me."
Elam and I looked at each other. This was something both Kodak and the Princess would want to know.
I looked down at Art, kneeling down so I was eye level with him. "What is your brother's name?"
"His name is Hesper. It means 'evening star'. It suits him," Art said, smiling, "He's protective of me. He told me that someday he'd lead me somewhere warm and safe, so that I'd have a big place to run around and play with him."
I nodded, "I see. You didn't tell Kodak or Kira about him."
"I forgot to," he said, looking a little sad, "I meant to. Should I tell them right now?"
I nodded, "Yeah," I told him. I didn't want to meantion to the boy that his brother could be in danger.
