"Caira... are you sure about this?" Elyett asked you, trying to phrase it as nice as possible. "You know nothing about him..."
Virgil smirked "She knows just as much about me as she does you."
This caused you to pull yourself away from Virgil and look between him and the boys, before letting your gaze rest on them, "what is he talking about?"
"Id like to know myself." Elyett turned his gaze onto Virgil , daring him to say more. Elyett really wanted to know what Virgil believed he knew. There should be no reason for Virgil to know anything about him, but then...if Virgil were working for Xeros, then he would have unlimited information at his disposal.
Virgil grinned, "if you haven’t told her any of it, I don’t see why I should."
You were now becoming extremely confused and rather irritated, "what stuff?"
Elyett sighed, obviously aware that he was going to have to tell you if he wanted to leave this place, "I... let one of my charges die when it wasn’t her time..." he spoke softly
Why would Elyett let someone die? You were sure that he wouldn’t let you die. He’d done everything he could so far to protect you, hadn’t he?
"You shouldn’t blame him," Jaxon spoke up and he looked at you directly, wanting to emphasis his point. This must have been important because Jaxon was talking and he was talking to directly. Loud enough for everyone to hear, he continued, "I killed her."
"It wasn’t your fault..." Elyett spoke softly. You were shocked. There was no other word for it. You were completely and utterly shocked. Obviously there was a history here that you were unaware of, and you wanted to know what had happened, rather desperately now, but...what if bringing up this topic would also bring back pain? It had been brought up now.
Jaxon glared at Elyett and they had a conversation through their mind where it was obvious Jaxon was yelling at his friend, for one reason or another. You hated it when they did that, because it was obvious they were doing it to keep the information from you. Looking at Lennon you could see he was just as confused as you were. For once, at least, you weren’t the only one...
"How do you know about that?" Wolfgang growled. He was trying to find any means possible to give him a reason to hurt the vampire right now. For that vamp to bring up a topic like that! He would have been severely hurt ages ago if you hadn’t been around.
Now, it seemed, it was Virgil’s turn. His eyes turned dark, almost completely black and you could see his hatred for Jaxon and Elyett. It was pure hatred. "That girl you slaughtered so heartlessly, she had been my fiancé." All eyes were on Virgil in shock now. He had been human at the time... It was no wonder he hated your friends so much. You were actually sure how much you trusted them yourself at the moment. The room had an unnerving silence to it now. You found yourself sitting on the bed and Lennon moved to sit next to you. Circumstances had really become complicated now.
Virgil had said he was going to follow you where ever you went and these boys weren’t about to leave your side now, no matter what part of their past had been revealed to you. There was no way they were going to trust you with a vampire let alone actually believe that vampire would be able to protect you.
You looked between Lennon and Jeremiah , pleading with them to say something or do something that would ease the tension of the room. It wasn’t like you could just walk outside either...
Jeremiah took the hint. "As safe as this place may be from prying eyes, we cant just stay here. Seriously, to make Caira live her whole life in a place like this would drive the lady insane."
"I hadn’t planned on keeping her here. Shed be dead within the month, but her loss of scent would also bring Xeros here." The way he spoke with little emotion sent a shiver down the back of your spine and you huddled a little closer to Lennon .
That annoying grin that you were starting to love to hate was back on Virgil’s face. You knew it meant no good for you... and you also knew that it didn’t matter how much you would protest to his idea, he’d make you go there one way or another. It didn’t stop you asking though, "Where are you going to take us?" The suspicion was evident in your voice only widening that annoying grin of his.
"My real home."
The entire room seemed to go on pause. Virgil’s real home? None of them understood what that meant. Wasn’t this place his real home? Finally Jeremiah stepped forward and spoke, the entire time looking at you, "I’m afraid I will not be able to accompany you any further. If I may," He stretched his hand out to you, "a word in private before I go..." You hesitated looking at the others before you stretched your hand out and allowed Jeremiah to lead you out of the room. Virgil had been glaring at the fallen untrustingly the entire time and you could see the awkwardness.
When the two of you were out of the room and out of the others hearing, Jeremiah released your arm and leant against the wall. "do you remember what I told you when we first met?"
You creased your brow for a minute before you could understand what it was he was talking about. Of course! He was referring to the time that he had asked to flirt with you without restriction. You nodded shyly wondering where this was heading.
"Unfortunately I was unable to pull my full plan into action, but you did do as I asked did you not?" Jeremiah seemed to be stressing this point urgently. Once again you nodded shyly. You hadn’t noticed that much... sure the guys had gone tense every time Jeremiah showed the slightest bit of affection towards you, but you were sure that if you had seen your best friend flirting with the boys you would definitely have felt some sort of pang in your heart... oh how you missed your old school friends!
Jeremiah sighed, seeing that you had not understood the full meaning of what he had intended for you. He gave you a hug of a friend and a wry smile, "Perhaps I can finish teaching you this lesson another day, when you all come back to visit me."
You smiled and the two of you walked back into the room, immediately feeling the daggers flying through the air. The intensity of the hatred towards one another was almost suffocating.
Elyett and Jeremiah had a few words between each other before Jeremiah gave his final farewell. He disappeared in a flash of golden light. You realised that this was the first time you’d seen any of them teleport. Usually you were with them when they teleported or saw them arrive. Never had you seen them leave before.
"Lets go." You jumped finding Virgil next to you. He was still glaring at the others, mainly Jaxon, and you could understand why. Now you were confused about Jaxon. It was now you were really worried about being around him on your own... and Elyett had let Jaxon do it... You really did feel sorry for Virgil .
The others moved towards you and placed their hand upon you. They weren’t going to let the Vampire take you anywhere without them. This action only made Virgil growl, "If you’re going to make me teleport all of you then you better be willing to give me some of your power. You don’t want me to get hungry around her do you." It was a statement, not a question. He was practically demanding them to give some of their energy into him. It seemed to be a powerful as he was, Virgil must feed to keep this power...The thought made you shiver.
Elyett was willing to give as much of his energy was required. Virgil was not to be trusted, and he didn’t want Virgil going hungry around you. That would only encourage him to bite you.
Virgil was satisfied with this unspoken agreement and you felt the energy flow through you as the transfer was made and Virgil was preparing to teleport all of you, but something happened. He stopped. "Stay here," he growled, and walked out the door, closing it behind him.
You looked between everyone confused, and then heard a soft muffle coming through the door. He was talking to someone. You immediately moved over towards the door and started listening in to the conversation.
"...here?" Virgil had asked something.
I’m sorry my lord, but he wishes to speak with you."
he? You wanted to know who he was.
"What are you doing?" Lennon was not impressed with your curiosity. It always got you in trouble in the past.
You put your hand up to silence all remarks you knew you would get for this. You wanted to know what was going on and this was the only way you knew that you would be able to find out. Virgil’s annoyance at this new change of plans could be felt through the door. Then there was nothing. They were gone.
"Ok," you spun around with a new determination to get answers, "Who is Virgil ? Why does every other Vampire call him Lord and treat him with respect?"
There was a silence and then Elyett finally spoke up. "Vampires run their community through strength. The king, or strongest Vampire, is the one that rules and protects the society from people like Xeros. The prince is the vampire next in line; the second strongest Vampire in the community who will take the place of the king. He is called upon mainly to do the menial tasks that the King hates. Of course any Vampire is able to challenge the King or the prince to take their place, but then, who would really want the responsibility to rule?" Elyett paused, not having actually answered your question yet. Finally he moved on, " Virgil is the prince of Vampires and he has been practically since he was turned. He is strong and he is tactical. He moved up the chain quickly and it bought him a large amount of respect amongst the vampires. Virgil is so strong that he can come out during the hot hours of the day and not die, although he can only be out then for about an hour or so... The king can come out during the day and act like any other normal human... The stronger they get the better they can withstand the sun."
Wolfgang finally spoke up, having something he wanted to say, "Vampires aren’t like the fairytales you read about these days. They have no soul, and they don’t have the ability to love. They work by lust and the desire to feed and survive. They are purely demonic creatures who should never be trusted..."
"what’s going on?" You asked, demanding an answer. "Why were you called away?"
Virgil glared at you, before softening into that annoying little grin again, "You were listening in on my conversation...that’s very ... demonic of you." He had spoken, playing around with the words.
It was turn to glare, ad you glared hard. "I’m nothing like you."
He smirked, "We are so much more alike then you think."
You were about to make a retort but Wolfgang beat you to the mark. "stop changing the topic. What did the king want with you?" Wolfgang was demanding answers now too. He really wanted to be as far away from this creature as possible, but what was worse was the feeling that the vampire was hiding something.
All of the playfulness in Virgil disappeared in an instant. He was serious and he was angry and you could tell he really wanted to have a go at Wolfgang . This new evil energy being generated out of Virgil scared you. You could feel how much evil he was capable of through this and it scared you. It scared you more then Wolfgang had when he’d been chained to the tree. You moved back and Lennon pulled you behind him, feeling your unease and wanting to do what he could to separate you from the cause. You put your hand on his shoulder and felt him tense at your touch, obviously he hadn’t expected you to do that.
Virgil looked around the group that you had come to call your own. One by one he seemed to analyse then until his eyes landed on yours and stayed there. You were able to watch first hand as his playfulness and uncaring attitude came back. The glint had returned to his eyes, "he wants an audience with the princess." The entire time he spoke his gaze stayed on you, watching and analysing every move you made.
