Chapter 1 : From a Rescue to Survival - Prologue

The very first part of my new story. Read the prologue. Character names and such will be mention in the next chapter. Please note that all the characters in these are purely fictional, and does not represent anything that actually happened in history.

The office was lit by only a single candle on the desk in front of you and the general. With the light, you could only make out the thick mustache that the general had, along with what he was wearing, and the wrinkling that was forming around his mouth. General Hart was getting old. He had to be around sixty five now. You sat slouching against the seat a little, your fingers holding supporting your chin, with your elbow pinned against the armrest of your chair. Both of the general's arms were on the table, his hands loosely open. Guards stood behind him, so professionally, not moving an inch. They were almost dead - it was just that they were standing up. The guard's hands were folded at the front of their groin area, and their faces were covered by the darkness. Outside of the window, it was storming heavily. Rain hit the windows hard, and lightning made artificial daylight outside, lighting up the whole skies. The branches of the trees outisde swayed lightly along with the wind, and their whispering leaves never seemed to cease talking to one another. It was almost like a scene from a horror movie.

The general's mustache fluttered lightly as he was talking.

"There is an unmarked island a little East of South America, and as you know - "
"One of the political leaders are being held hostage there," you finished. The general nodded slightly.
"We need you and two others to go down there and rescue the hostage."
"Why don't we just send a S.W.A.T. team down there? Just the three of us might not do."
"Back in 1974, when Senator Hibson was kidnapped, he was held down there. As soon as they heard that a S.W.A.T. team came, they killed him."
"So you're saying that the three of us...whoever the other two may be, have to move silently?"
"Correct. You cannot reveal your being there." The general's mouth widened in appreciation.
"Alright...so are you telling me that...three people have to go to a secluded part of an unmarked island to rescue a political leader? And if we get caught, he gets killed?"
"Correct." You shifted in your seat a little. Doing this mission may be a little task.
"Fine. I'll do it. But I better get good pay."
"I'll make sure of that. But there is one more thing you should know."
"Yes?"
"There is a disease spreading throughout that town. Our researchers caught a glimpse of it, and it seems to be almost deadly."
"What does it do to you?"
"It seems to shut down all the functionalities of the brain except for the basic ones that are required to live. Swallow, breathe, and sleep. Reasoning, planning, parts of speech, emotions, problem solving, orientation, recognition, perception, memory, and even movement skills are lost."
"So people there are like walking dead people?"
"If you must put it that way. So it is safe to assume that people there are mostly hostile."
"How are they smart enough to capture and keep someone hostage, then?"
"We're thinking that there may be a leader that has full human brain capabilities. We are not clear yet, but we can blindly conclude that that "human" wants something from us, and has that political leader captive for that reason."
"So...we find the political leader and come back?"
"Yes. And to further eliminate any chances of this happening again..." the general leaned forward. "Kill the leader and anyone that is hostile."

You smiled. You were going to enjoy this.
