Apparently I had broken my shoulder. That’s what Marie had said. But I didn’t feel anything wrong with it. It didn’t hurt and I could move it without a problem.

Marie had found me fifteen minutes after Griff left me. He had come down to dinner alone, Marie got worried, and then asked about me. She said Griff said I wasn’t feeling up to dinner.

Marie, being perceptive and aware, rushed up to his room and found me on the floor. I remember her shaking me awake and patting me with an icy, damp cloth. I was sore and there was this terrible, steely taste in my mouth.

“Sylvie, what happened?” Marie crouched down to me, but she wasn’t looking at me. She was looking above, to the armoire next to me. I opened my mouth, but my jaw felt like someone had hammered nails into it.

I looked where she was looking, winced as a searing rip of pain flashed through my skull, and saw a huge dent in the closet. It was rounded and splinters and cracks could be seen. I remembered what happened.

“Oh, god…” I moaned and couldn’t help the tears. Marie took one look at the ripped skirt of my dress, the armoire and my red shoulder and shrieked. She screamed and smashed her fist into the ground. I felt like I was in an earthquake.

She tore from the ground and without further ado, sprinted out of the room at speeds unmatched by light. I heard a commotion from downstairs, and a thunder of footsteps.

Faces appeared in moments. Valen divided to me and cradled me in his arms. I sputtered as if hands roamed all over me, checking for injuries. The throbbing in my shoulder was disappearing rapidly, and I wondered if it was the shock that was dowsing it.

“Sylvie, what did he do to you?” Valen whispered. I looked at Sonora, Navarro, Claude, Sebastian and Fawn. I couldn’t say it aloud, it was too humiliating.

“Valen…I didn’t want to…but he made me…” I breathed into his ear and I felt the pulse in his wrist jump into a frenzy.

“Griff did this?” He rumbled, a sound that was menacing and ominous. I tried to shake my head, but it was hurting so badly I had a hard time even blinking. At the same time, the center of my chest felt like someone had punched their hand through my rib cage and was trying to take out my heart.

I whimpered a bit and Valen lifted me and took me to Marie’s room. I laid on her bed and Valen paced beside me.

“You realize I’m going to have to kill him.” Valen growled to Navarro and Sonora.

“Valen, I know this is going to come out terribly, but Sylvie is Griff’s mate and he can do with her what he wishes.”

Valen let out a deafening roar and punched a vase across the room. It split against his fist and the shards turned to dust when they collided with the wall. “So I’m just supposed to go on while he hurts what’s mine?!”

“Sylvie is not yours, Valen.” Sonora said with finality.

“Yes she is, damn it!” He shouted and threaded his fingers through is hair violently.

“Stop screaming!” I moaned. My head and my chest pulsated and I could barely breathe.

“Valen, I hate to tell you, but you aren’t helping this situation. Would you mind stepping gout for a while?” Marie asked his quietly. He growled a few swear words, but left nonetheless.

Someone smoothed the hair on my head and Sonora sniffed the air. She walked slowly towards me, her face fixed on my mouth. She breathed in deeply by my mouth and a look of horror washed over her features.

“Sylvie…did you…hurt Griff in return? I need you to tell me everything that took place. It’s very important.”

“Can’t you see she’s in pain?” Marie scolded.

Sonora fixed her with a frigid stare and Marie’s mouth zipped shut.

“I-I walked in and he grabbed me. He told me to be quiet after I screamed and then he shoved me against the clothes chest.” I pointed to the wooden mass and saw the contoured indent. “I hurt my shoulder, but it doesn’t hurt anymore. Then he…he did it, and his hand covered my face. I couldn’t breathe through my nose or-or my mouth and I tried to bite him to get it off. I had to bite him twice until he took it off…and then he was done.”

Sonora closed her eyes and sighed. She got up and said something to Navarro. Navarro gasped and looked at me in pity.

“Sylvie…you’re going to be alright. You won’t ache for long anymore.”

I sighed. “That’s a relief.”

“ I wouldn’t say that.” Navarro said solemnly.

“What’s wrong with you guys?” I asked. My shoulder didn’t even hurt. In fact, it felt tight with muscle and flexible. I moved it and was surprised to feel it slide so fluidly.

“Sylvie, sit back down, your hurt! You just broke your shoulder!” Marie chastised and pushed me back to the bed.

“My shoulder is perfectly fine!” I barked and pushed her off me. She stumbled back a few steps and stared at me with her mouth in an oval.

“Sylvie, I think you need to sit down.”

“Fine. Happy?” I snarled and slumped into a chair next to Fawn. Her eyes were latched to me and I wanted to punch her a new lip.

“Sylvie, after you bit Griff, did you feel anything go down your throat? Did you swallow anything?” Sonora stood in front of me, her hands propped onto her hips.

I shrugged. “I might of swallowed spit or something. But my mouth tasted really weird afterward. Why?”

And then it dawned on me. I touched my shoulder, which should have been in a splint by now. It moved sinuously. My…ah, feminine parts should have hurt because of the roughness, but it didn’t. The taste in mouth was full of iron, it was sticky and made me cringe.

Oh. My. Goodness.

“I drank Griffin’s blood.” I stated in a voice dripping with terror.

“Oh, god, Sylvie…” Marie sobbed for me and dropped her head into her hands.

“Sylvie, you do know what happens after a non-vampire mate drinks his/her mate’s blood. Don’t you?”

I nodded coldly and gulped. “I’m a vampire.”

“Yes, yes you are.”

And that’s when I started to cry.

I had to stay over at the Monstrosity Manor that night. They kept telling me that I was unstable and I couldn’t be trusted to curb my ‘instincts’ around my family. Oh yes, I just wanted to sink my teeth into my mom’s neck.

Blood was disgusting. It was thick and sticky, dark, and smelled like old nickels. I would definitely not be drinking it anytime soon.

“Sonora, go to the Blood Bank and get some bags. She’ll need some tonight.”

“I’m not drinking defrosted blood!”

“Well we’re not about to set a human in front of you.” Navarro bit out. I mumbled a few choice words at her.

Sonora left, Marie went to her bedroom and went to bed. I was wide awake. Fawn had left earlier and it was just me and Navarro. A knock crashed onto the door which made me jump. It was so LOUD.

The door swung open and Navarro led Valen inside. His face was splotchy and he rushed over to my side. The expression her wore was contorted into a mask of misery and guilt.

“How are you feeling?”

“I don’t know?! How do you think?! I’m going to kill Griff. I’m going to rip his arms and legs off and then I’ll-”

“Darling, that isn’t feminine talk.” He smoothed a hand over my hair and I melted into his palm. “And, besides, I’ll do the murder for you. Trust me, I shall stretch it out until he is begging to die, and then you can finish the deed. How does that sound?”

I smiled. “Perfect.”

“I hate what he did to you.” He murmured and laid his head in the crook of my neck.

“Yeah, me too. I though rape was bad enough, but know I’m a fucking blood sucker. Sorry, excuse the language.”

Valen’s head rose slowly. His eyes were narrowed and his expression fierce. “What did you just say?” He gripped my shoulder, his grasp tightening. It didn’t actually hurt.

“I said sorry for the foul word, but”

“No. Before that.” His tone was grave and deep. It wasn’t happy.

“I’ve been turned into a blood-sucker? What? You already know that.”

He stood up abruptly and looked like he was about to be sick all over the floor.

“What’s wrong?! Your scaring me.”

The voice he spoke in was choked and upset. “Sylvie, I told you not to, I said-”

“I couldn’t help it! He was choking me and I had to get his hand off my face, and I -”

Valen crouched down to the ground to a squat and held his face in his hands. His breathe was ragged and heavy. “I understand now.”

“You see? Now I can kill Beat-“

Valen looked up at me. “Sylvie, do you know what Griffin is?”

“What? Yeah, duh, he’s a vampire. We’ve been through this, so…”

He shook his head. “Sylvie, Griff is an Absolute vampire.”

“What’s it to me?”

“You are an Absolute, too.”
