“What do you mean you’re going to Finland?” Farrah asked me with a confused look etched upon her face.

“Farrah, darling, you’re not that stupid. You can understand what I meant by that,” I replied in a joking tone as I just grabbed my handbag and walked inside, leaving all of them with dumbfounded looks on their faces. I could understand their confusion though.

Anyone who knew me for even two seconds could probably tell that I was not an impulsive person. I took life seriously – too seriously sometimes – and that mindset forced me to think twice about all of my actions and their consequences. I usually thought things through before acting on anything. But this decision defied all that was “typically Aiden.”

I soon heard them all start walking into the airport behind me as the confused haze finally lifted from their general area. Juke was the first to run up to walk next to me.

“I’m really glad you’re doing this. You haven’t left LA since you got there and I think you really deserve a vacation,” he said, as a proud father would tell his child.

“Thanks for your support, Jukey-Poo. I really appreciate it,” I said smiling over to him and getting into the long line to check the luggage in. There really was nothing else to say so we just kind of got lost in our own thoughts for a while. I made a few last-second calls and texts, letting people know that I would unavailable for a few days while the others talked amongst themselves.

We finally got through the bag checks and security before we arrived at our terminal to sit and wait some more. I bought some coffee as my breakfast and the newest edition of BusinessWeek Magazine to read in my time of boredom.

We all found something or another to do as we lounged around the terminal waiting for our plane to fuel up and start boarding. Juke sat on the floor eating like a homeless guy while the rest of us were decent enough to sit on chairs, even though Farrah’s primate-like boyfriend decided to be uncivil and take up two chairs, lying down on them as if it were his own bed. Farrah sat next to me, looking across at my magazine once in a while to roll her eyes and go back to her “69 Sex Tips” article in Cosmopolitan Magazine. Theon sat across from me, staring out the window in deep thought.

Suddenly, Farrah decided to snap shut her own magazine and grab mine out of my hands as well. “So enough of this deadly silence. Why are you really going to Finland?” she asked impatiently.

I shrugged. “I thought I already told you that I needed a long-overdue vacation.”

She shot me an unbelieving look as she shifted her position on the chair to completely face me. I felt that this conversation now had everyone’s attention. “Tell, woman!” she said forcefully.

I leaned back in my chair and took a moment to think. “I’m not sure what the hell I’m doing, to be honest. I guess I just needed a change of venue.”

“What about patching things up with Chris?”

“Well…there’s that too,” I said within a long sigh before taking a sip of my coffee. “Not only is this just a vacation from life itself, but I’m also planning on taking a flight to Munich sooner or later. I don’t want to deal with this situation on the phone.”

“I guess that makes sense.”

“Don’t I always?” I asked grinning.

“Not at all,” she replied chuckling. I smiled and finished off the rest of my coffee. She handed me back the magazine as we continued our tiring wait for the flight to finally be ready. It was only a matter of minutes before we were boarding the airplane with the long, relentless flight stretched out ahead of us.

Since I was the first one of our group to get into the plane, it was my job to find all of our seats. Since I hadn’t bought the plane tickets with the others, I didn’t expect to sit with them, which would be a shame really. I found my seat somewhere near the back, but not all the way in the back since I didn’t want to be seated near the toilets. The fact that I had a window seat also calmed my nerves – something I needed since I wasn’t very keen with flying.

I sat down and looked out unto the terrain of the open lot where we soon be speeding down before the plane’s wheels slowly started lifting into the air. I tried not to even imagine it as it made me sick to my stomach, so I merely opened up my BusinessWeek once more and continued reading an interesting article about the oil industry. I felt someone take a seat next to me and I briefly looked up to see who my flying partner would be for the day, but had to do a double take to make sure I was seeing correctly.

“What in God’s name are you doing here?” I asked in an annoyed tone.

“My ticket says this is where I’m supposed to sit, stupid,” Theon replied with an equal tone as mine.

“Of all the places you could have sit, they had to seat you next to me?”

“Believe me, I’m not happy about this either, okay?”

“So why didn’t you just switch tickets with Farrah or something?”

“I asked her, but she wanted to join the mile-high club with Vivian,” he replied in a disgusted tone.

“Ugh, I’m nauseous just thinking about this flight. Please don’t make it worse…” I said turning away and looking back out the window.

A few moments of silence passed in which I gave up looking at the same old boring sights outside and went back to reading my article. A few minutes later, the flight attendants started going through the procedures of what to do if the plane crashed, and since that kind of stuff always made me anxious, I remained transfixed in my reading.

The flight was soon off without my recognition of it. I was reading up on the business of corn plastic when I felt a nudge against my elbow, which was resting on the armrest. I dismissed it as one of Theon’s antics to entertain himself and continued forth with what I was doing before when I heard him clear his throat.

I let out an annoyed sigh and looked up at him finally. What? Am I breathing too loudly for you or something that you have to repeatedly bug me?”

He replied with a glare. “You’re taking up too much room on the armrest. We have to share that, you know.”

“Spoiled rockstars don’t have a right to use the word ‘share’ in a sentence.”

“Will you stop acting like such a child and give up one inch – one inch, that’s all I ask – of the armrest, dumby?” he asked, finally getting angry with me.

“Says the child that refers to people as ‘dumby’ when he’s losing an argument,” I replied smartly as I moved my elbow over a bit. He shot me a glare in response and put the earphones of his iPod in his ears, probably praying to God that the louder the music got, the more invisible I’d be.

After reading my whole magazine front and back, watching about two different movies on the small screen in front of me, and taking a long nap, we had finally arrived in London, where another flight would be taking us to Helsinki. From there, we were taking a train to Tampere. Considering all the traveling I had to do, it was no wonder I never left my convenient home of LA.

“I’m surprised you haven’t murdered Theon yet,” Farrah said to me as we sat in our terminal waiting for our next flight. The boys were off getting us some food.

“I honestly have no clue how I did it. I had to restrain myself from throwing him out of the plane at least fifty times.”

“Yeah, but think about this way: you hate flying, right? Well, did you even notice when you took off and landed? No. You were too busy arguing with Theon to think about the plane crashing and burning us all to ashes.”

I thought about what Farrah said and realized she had a point. As frustrating as it was sitting next to the guy, he sure as hell did a damn good job of keeping my mind from wandering to anything else but the measurements of how much I hated him. I was almost thankful he was around.

The guys came back with our food and handed us our respective meals. Juke sat next to me and smiled. “How was your flight?”

“Hell,” Theon and I both replied at the same time. We both glared at each other for a second and looked away. I assumed that Juke took this as his cue to refrain from bringing up the topic again.

We all boarded our second flight, which wasn’t going to be nearly as long as the first, but it didn’t matter anyways since we were all seated in the same general area and I was seated next to Juke and Farrah.

“No sex with Vivian this time?” I asked her as we all tiredly lazed around.

“Maybe later. His mood is probably lost consider he’s over there listening to Theon’s rants about you.”

“So how was the sex? Is it any different from being in the bed?”

“Amazing. And I guess it’s good in the bed too, but when you’re thousands of feet up in the air, things are always better,” she said grinning. “You should try it some time.”

“With whom?”

“I’m sure Theon would be more than happy,” she said smirking.

“Okay, forget what I said before. I now plan to throw both Theon and you out of this plane.”

“I’ve always wanted to have sex in a plane…” Juke suddenly chimed in. Farrah and I replied by looking at him strangely. “What?”

“Nonsense, Juke. You’re too innocent for these kinds of things,” I said to him.

“I am not!” he said pouting. “I’ve had sex before! And it was good!”

“Uh-huh…” Farrah said unbelievingly. I snickered at her remark while Juke continued his little hissy fit since we didn’t believe him.

“Oh, Jukey-Poo, you’re too cute,” I said as I pinched his cheeks.

“That’s it! I’m going to go sit with the guys,” he said in a frustrated huff before storming off, but not before mumbling, “I don’t know why I always hang out with girls anyways…”

Farrah and I couldn’t stop laughing from out little torture session on Julian. “I would marry that boy right now, but I feel like such a grandma compared to him,” I said jokingly.

“Most people are compared to him,” Farrah replied laughing. And just like that we continued our jokes throughout this more blissful flight. The train ride was about the same way, only quieter since we were all dead tired from all of our traveling. We had finally arrived to our destination in no time. Tampere stretched out before me like a glowing city filled with both day and nightlife. I couldn’t quite compare it to New York City or LA – it seemed like an in-between.

We exited the train station with all of our bags in hand and started to walk outside.

“Farrah, do you know where my hotel is?” I asked her as I stared at the hotel name on the paper in front of me.

“Yeah, it’s on the same street as Theon’s apartment so you two can just catch a taxi together,” he replied as she started piling her things into her own taxi. I shot her a look that clearly read ‘are you fucking kidding me?! She laughed and said, “Sorry. It seems like you have the worst luck when it comes to him.”

“Indeed I do,” I mumbled as I joined Theon at our taxi. He put the stuff into the trunk without saying a word to me and we both climbed into the vehicle. In a few minutes, we were on a busy street. The taxi pulled over to the side and we both got out.

“Okay, Farrah gave you all of our numbers so just call – one of them preferably – if you need anything. My apartment is just a few buildings down.”

I nodded and went off in the direction of my hotel. I checked in and immediately went into my room only to find that Rich had rented me quite a luxurious suite. I smiled to myself and mentally reminded myself to thank him later. I didn’t even unpack before climbing between the sheets, happy to feel a mattress under me once more. After the long day, it was a wonder I hadn’t fallen asleep in the elevator ride up here.
