Brooklyn had lain in Pat and Jen's basement for the majority of the next three days. She didn't feel like talking to anyone, or eating anything. Jen forced her into the eating part.
She had tried to call Jason a few times, but his phone was off.
"Give him a few days, he'll be fine." Derrick promised. He was currently the chosen one to try and get her out of the basement.
"I think I'm going to go home." She rolled over wrapping herself tighter in the blue striped comforter on the bed she was laying in.
He stared at her for a moment.
"You can't go home." He pulled the comforter from her face.
"I can and I am." She demanded, just wanting to be able to forget about everything that had happened the past few months.
"If you give up you're not the only person that's going to be hurt out of all of this." He sternly informed her
Brooklyn stared at him. She didn't think she'd ever see Derrick Frost demand anything from anyone. "Now you're just quitting and that's bullshit." He stood up and stomped up the steps.
Brooklyn wasn't sure exactly what just happened, but she knew that if she went home nobody in Michigan would probably never ever forgive her for it.
"See, it wasn't that bad was it?" Craig asked as Brooklyn finished her bowl of cream of mushroom soup.
"It was horrible." She glared at him.
"Well you're alive, aren't you?" He asked.
She stared at him for a moment and decided against answering.
"You're not going home, are you?" He asked after a few moments of silence.
"Who told you that?" She asked.
"Are you?" He asked ignoring her question.
"I don't know." She sighed resting her head in her hands.
His phone rang before he got the chance to reply.
"Hello?" He answered, Brooklyn stared at him as he stood up from the table and paced around, talking. She had watched him do this millions of times. She wasn't even sure he realized he did it. She didn't process anything he was saying, so most of it sounded like mumbles to her. She mostly thought about what she was going to do about her situation.
She knew she had to go home at some point she had to do something. She couldn't just lie around in Pat and Jen's basement for the next five days. She watched Craig as he walked up to the counter to pay for their meal.
"Hey." She tapped on his shoulder.
He turned around to look at her pulling the phone slightly from his ear.
"I'm going to go." She informed him. "Thanks for dinner and everything." She kissed his cheek and walked out of the small diner before he could reply to try and stop her.
Brooklyn didn't have a car, and she didn't even know Michigan that well to be waltzing around Flint freely. She figured she'd walk either way because she needed some more time by herself to think.
She stared at the scenery making up her mind on exactly what she was going to do as she made it out of the city slightly and more in to the suburbs where houses with kids were placed evenly throughout the small town. She kept on walking for an hour; she knew her destination was coming up soon. The streets were starting to look more and more familiar as she walked down them.
She could see the small white house from the street she turned onto. She walked faster, staring at the streetlights in the darkness. She didn't even bother checking the time. She knew she had probably been walking for an hour and a half. It felt like it was now hours until she finally reached the small house she had set out for.
She walked up the front steps and stared at the door, she tried to twist the knob gently but it was locked. She knocked and waited as she could hear noises mute and someone shuffle around before the lock clicked and the door opened.
Jason's eyes met with Brooklyn. She stared back at him for a few seconds. She stepped in the doorway and pulled him closer by the back of the neck until their lips were connected. He was slightly shocked and didn't move Brooklyn pulled away and stared at him again.
"I thought about it." She stared at him. His blue eyes were still in the state of shock with her actions, but they wanted to hear the rest of her statement. "And I want you." He looked like he wanted to say something. Brooklyn didn't give him enough time as she pushed him in the doorway and closed the door behind them, locking it; she connected their lips again. Jason gave in wrapping an arm around her waist and pushing his lips back against hers.
