How My Heart Behaves -One- Kevin Jonas
Chapter 27 : How My Heart Behaves -Twenty Eight- Kevin Jonas
It was the almighty day. Four nights before Liss took me out with the girls to a male strip club for my bachelorette party. We drank… a lot… and I didn’t move for the next day. It's kind of against what the doctor says and I got in a lot of trouble with Kevin. Anyway, back to the present; I was sitting in a little room in the church feeling like I was going to puke from nerves.
“Need any help hon?” Denise said as she peeked her head in
“Yeah, could you zip this for me?” I asked motioning to the back of my dress. Denise came in a zipped it up.
“You look gorgeous Melissa” Denise said as her eyes started to water
“Awe Denise… please don’t cry” I said giving her a hug
“I’m sorry” she said wiping her eyes “I’m just so glad that my little Kevin ended up with such a nice girl”
“Well, I’m glad I found such a great guy with such a great mom”
“I should get back in there with Paul and Frankie” She said
“Alright… Thank you” I said as she disappeared out the door. I sat down and closed my eyes. I was taking really deep breaths.
“Time to go” Lynn said opening the door with a huge smile on her face.
“Oh my god” I said
“Calm down Liss, everything is going to be perfect”
“Oh my god”
“Come on tough guy, let’s get this show on the road” she said grabbing my hand a forcing me up. I walked into the room where all the bridesmaids were. They were all fussing over Jules and Frankie, who were collectively the flower girl and ring bearer.
“Alright, let’s get this started” I said clapping my hands. All the heads shot up and looked at me.
“Wow” Jules said when she saw me, I chuckled nervously and the music started to play. My heart started to beat faster and faster. It was my turn to walk down the aisle. I came out of the doors and saw Kevin standing on the other end of the church. I smiled at him and his jaw dropped. I silently laughed and Kevin’s face picked up into a smile. It was the longest walk of my life, not to mention intimidating. Everyone was looking at me, and even though they were all smiling I still felt like I was on display. I made it to the front; at this point my heart was beating out of my chest and I breathing really heavily. The nerves were getting to me and I could feel my face get paler. Luckily we were prepared for a heart related emergency. Kevin leaned in to kiss me on the cheek
“I’m going to pass out” I whispered in his ear. He nodded and fished my medication out of his coat pocket and then one of my bridesmaids pulled the water bottle we hid in a bunch of plants and handed it to me. I took the medication and my heart started to calm down right away. I looked out into the church to see tons of confused faces. I let out a nervous chuckle and gave a small wave to the crowd. The priest started to talk. To me he was like the Charlie Brown teacher, all I heard was noise. I was totally spaced out when I felt Kevin squeeze my hand. I looked at him and he mouthed ‘I do’ so only I could notice.
“I do” I said smiling. After that it was all noise again. The next time I was knocked back into reality was when Kevin kissed me. It was over all ready? I exhaled deeply as we walked down the aisle out of the church.
“So craziest thing” I said as we were walking outside
“What’s that?” Kevin asked
“I heard that Kevin Jonas from the Jonas Brothers got married today… and his new wife is a total babe”
“I heard the same thing… well, except I heard that his new wife isn’t half as good looking as he is” he said shrugging. We got outside and people were throwing rice at us. I smiled
“I hate these weird wedding customs” I said through my teeth as we got into the car. Kevin just rolled his eyes at me.
“So… We’re married” Kevin said like he didn’t believe it
“I don’t know if I believe it”
“Same here… I mean didn't we just met”
“It’s insane”
“But, I love you”
“Ditto… so about the last name thing, I’m kind of attached to mine”
“I have no problem with you keeping it”
“I could get it hyphenated” I said scrunching my nose
“Hamilton- Jonas? It doesn’t sound right”
“Which sounds better: Melissa Hamilton or Melissa Jonas?”
“Well, I have to say I love the sound of Melissa Jonas, but I think Melissa Hamilton is more you”
“Good” I said smiling. We got to the place where the reception was and it was picture time. There were so many pictures.
“Let’s get on of you kissing” The photographer said.
“Ew” I said like a little girl scrunching up my face and Kevin stuck his tongue out at me. I laughed and he pulled me to him.
“This is a really weird picture” I said against his lips. I could feel him shake from laughing a bit.
“Shh” he said pressing his lips onto mine some more. We finally finished with the formal pictures and went inside.
“Time for your fist dance” Lynn said pushing us out onto the dance floor. I laughed at the force she used. The song that was played was the song Kevin wrote for me. Nick played the acoustic guitar and Joe sang.
“Shall we?” Kevin said wrapping his arms around my waist
“Doesn’t look like I have much of a choice now does it?” I said as I put my arms around his neck.
“So, did you choose this song?” Kevin asked
“Nope, you said that you wanted your brothers to play our first song and I just let Nick and Joe decide what they wanted to play”
“It’s a good choice on their part”
“Quite” I said smiling. The song ended and a DJ took over. Joe walked over
“Mind if I cut in?” He asked
“No problem man” Kevin said walking over to his mother.
“That was a nice choice” I said as we started to dance
“I figured you’d like it… it was all me” he said confidently
“So, it was Nick’s idea?”
“Yeah”
“I knew it”
“Liss, I gotta say you look beautiful”
“Awe, thanks Joe” I said as I saw my parents walk in. My smile instantly fell
“Everything alright Liss?” Joe asked confused
“I need to go find Kevin… Thanks for the dance” I said forcing a smile and kissing him on the cheek. I went to find Kevin, I found him talking to Garbo.
“Can I borrow you for a sec?” I asked him
“Yeah sure, I’ll talk to you later man” he said as he started walking with me
“They’re here” I said
“Who?”
“My parents… they’re right over there” I said pointing to my parents who were talking to my grandmother.
“Do you want to go over?” Kevin asked taking my hand
“Might as well” I said as we made our way over to them
“Jill, Louis” I said
“You look really beautiful Melissa” my mother said smiling sadly
“It’s good to see you again Mrs. Hamilton” Kevin said shaking her hand
“So you’re the boy my little girl decided to marry” my father said
“I’m not your little girl” I said loudly. I instantly realized what I had a said and my eyes went wide as my father’s face got red.
“Don’t you dare talk to me that way” My father said sternly
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to… I wasn’t thinking” I said quickly
“I should have guessed… you never were much of a thinker, not half as smart as your brothers, but you a girl what could you expect” my father spat at me. I could feel tears brim my eyes, but I pushed them back. I turned to leave when my father grabbed my arm hard.
“Don’t walk away from me when I’m talking to you” He said angrily. I pushed his hand off my arm
“Don’t you EVER touch me” I yelled and quickly walked in the other direction. Kevin caught up with me, he grabbed my hand. I stopped and he just looked me in the eyes with an intense sadness.
“I should have known it would have been like that” I said looking at my arm which was already starting to form a hand shaped bruise.
“Has it happened before?”
“Try my whole life… I was never as good as ‘his boys’. That’s why I never did the girly thing, I tried my whole life to be like my brothers so I could be good enough for him, but I never was. That was why I never forgave them after all these years… the money was an excuse to get away from that”
“Did he hit you?”
“No, but he would leave bruises like this one” I said pointing to my arm
“I’m really sorry Liss” Kevin said kissing my forehead
“It’s in the past” I said exhaling deeply.
“You sure?”
“One hundred percent” I said forcing a smile. Kevin gave me an unconvinced smile and we walked over to a group of people. The rest of the night was so much fun.
“Ready to call it a night?” Kevin asked as people were filing out.
“Absolutely” I said smiling
“It was that bad huh?” Kevin said smirking
“No, and as much as I love being around huge groups of people, I think some alone time with my boyfriend would be nice too”
“So you’re not going to spend the night with me?”
“What?”
“You said your boyfriend” Kevin said laughing
“I guess I’m not really used to saying husband” I said awkwardly
“It’s nice though isn’t it?”
“What is?”
“Saying that you’re my wife… and I’m your husband”
“Yeah, I guess I could get used to it” I said smiling.
