I soon found myself looking at this ‘Wolverine’. His face was a bit rough-looking, he was scowling, but handsome nonetheless. He had a beard only around his jaw line and his hair was done in an odd way, but it looked good on him. He wore jeans and some sort of boots, a white shirt and a black leather jacket. His eyes were filled with a burning hatred at Creed...that’s when I wished that looks could kill. I could almost see the raging fire in Wolverine’s eyes, they would’ve burned Creed if they were able to dance out. Creed threw me down from the counter with only one hand. I felt a heavy wave of pain surge from my right thigh to my whole body. I tried to crawl behind the bar but the man above me seized my blouse collar and shoved me against him, my back against his stomach. I felt his nails on my neck, ready to slit.
"Let her go Creed." Wolverine said.
"And if I don’t?"
"I’ll tear your body apart."
Creed merely smirked and pressed his claws further into my neck. I could feel a trickle of blood run down the flesh.
"You’ve never killed me, Wolverine...why should this girl give you the strength to?" he laughed.
"Maybe." Wolverine snorted. "But I’ve kicked your ass so many times I’ll do it again."
Creed merely smirked and then dangled me by the neck in front of him.
"Don’t forget about all the times I kicked your ass." he said.
Wolverine clenched his hands into fists and raised them, the back of his hands facing us. Three blades sprung out on each hand just below the knuckles of his index, middle and ring fingers on each hand. Creed let me go, and I immediately ran as far as I could from the both of them, which wasn’t far enough. I couldn’t leave either, that Wolverine guy was blocking the exit and I wouldn’t want to even dare pass by him. They were only staring each other down. Wolverine was the one to make the first move, he sprung at Creed, his blades aimed at his throat. But the other man merely stood there, smirking. He grabbed the flying Wolverine and threw him over the bar counter. Bottles shattered and he had rolled over to the other side. A thump rang out once he hit the floor of the counter. Creed laughed and grabbed a nearby wooden chair from one of the nearby tables. He threw it at Wolverine as he emerged, but his blades cut the chair in half. As the two halves of the chair started to fall, Wolverine jumped off of the bar, kicking Creed at the back of the head. He immediately went down face-first onto the floor. But the fallen man immediately got up, grabbed Wolverine by the leg and threw him towards me. I ducked onto the floor and heard the sound of wood breaking. I looked to see him step out of the newly formed hole in the wall.
"Bastard..." he hissed.
He suddenly looked at me, the hard look in his eyes softening a little.
"You stay here."
I nodded involuntarily and he was off in a flash. Creed grabbed him by the wrists and growled right in his face. Wolverine bashed his forehead against his, but the other man still stood, laughing.
"You honestly think that you can kill me?" he asked. "You’re so weak, Wolverine..."
Laughing, he placed one hand around his opponents neck, the man’s arms falling limp by his side. I covered my mouth. I wanted to do something but I knew that I couldn’t. I then closed my eyes, and then heard a glass break. I opened my eyes and saw Wolverine holding a bottle of gin in his hand. It was broken and Creed was on the floor. The crown of his head was bleeding, and the winner poured the rest of his gin in the wound. The blades slowly disappeared back into his hands. He then looked at me and I hid my face in my knees. I heard his footsteps getting louder as he approached me, then they stopped.
"C’mon," he said gruffly. "Get up."
I felt his hands on my face. He made me look at him. Right into those piercing, but beautiful green eyes. I only looked into his eyes and he slowly let go of my face. He took off his leather jacket and wrapped it around me.
"W-Wolverine, right?" I asked.
"It’s Logan." he said. "Come on, Creed will get up any minute. You’ll be safe where I’m stayin’."
I trusted him...better than trusting that Creed guy. Logan helped me up and led me out the bar.
"So, who’re you?" he asked.
I looked at him, and just decided to give him my nickname.
"Merry." I said.
He said nothing and stopped in front of a Harley near the lot. He gave me a helmet and put on his, soon getting on the Harley. I quickly put on the helmet and climbed on behind him. Logan revved the engine and soon, we were off.
I had no idea how long it took to get to wherever the Hell he was going, probably more than an hour. But we stopped at this large mansion, in front of the gates. They opened with a strained creak, and Logan rode on in. He stopped in this garage with all of these bright lights and turned off the Harley. We both got off and took off the headgear.
"Where are we?" I asked.
"You’ll see soon enough. Come on." he said.
We both walked down the hall, I was still wearing his leather jacket. It was quite warm and I had calmed down, so I took it off and handed it to him. He took it but slung it over his shoulder.
"What’s going on?" I asked almost nervously.
"Have you found yourself with powers that you couldn’t explain?" he asked.
I looked at him and realized the drunk men being mutilated...but I wasn’t sure that it was me, so I shook my head.
"I’m not sure." I said.
"Follow me then." he said.
We continued to walk in the same direction, and we stopped in front of these large, dark oak doors. He knocked on the door and a voice answered.
"Logan, did you bring her?"
"Yeah," Logan responded. "She’s real nervous."
I gave him a look, but didn’t say anything. The doors opened and I followed Logan inside. A bald man with a kindly expression sat behind a desk. He smiled at the both of us.
"Thank you Logan." he said.
He then looked at me.
"Hello Meredith."
"How did you know my name?" I asked.
He laughed a little, and continued to talk.
"I’m Charles Xavier. The building you’re in now is Charles Xavier’s Institute for Gifted Youngsters."
"Gifted?" I asked.
"Mutants." Charles said.
"Oh..." I said. "Like that Creed guy?"
"You encountered Sabretooth?" Charles asked, looking at Logan.
In response, Logan nodded his head. I wondered why Charles had to ask, Logan got a lot of bruises...I looked at him and my eyes widened. All of his cuts and bruises were gone. The man who I stared at gave me a bemused look.
"Anyway Meredith, the reason why I know your name is because of Cerebro." Charles explained.
"Cere-what?" I asked.
"You appear to be confused, I’ll explain."
"God, I’m twenty and the already low opinion of my I.Q has become even lower." I groaned.
Charles looked at me, a little surprised.
"Cerebro is a super-computer that keeps track of all the mutants of the world." he explained.
I nodded my head, repeating what he said to myself.
"Go on..." I said.
"And Cerebro knows when a new mutant has awoken, then gives me the information. Tonight your name came to me."
I almost shot up from my chair, my nervous system giving me a little pulse.
"So I killed those men?" I screamed. "With...oh God!!!"
I nearly collapsed but the chair was behind me. It almost tipped over but went back into place. Charles waited patiently for me to calm down.
"It was in self-defense." he said.
I nodded my head, deciding that he could read minds as a power.
"I wanted to knock them out, not mutilate them." I said.
A sound had distracted me a little, I turned to my right to see Logan leaning against the wall, right by the window. I heard a few droplets of water hit the glass.
"Charles, what’s wrong with me?" I asked.
"You’re just going through a change...don’t worry. I went through it and Logan went through it. We’ll help you control your powers." Charles said.
"What good can mutilation do?" I asked.
I was on the verge of tears, I really was. I could already feel the burning of the salty tears.
"We’ll make them glorious," Charles said. "With every seemingly dark power, there usually comes a healing power too."
"Y-you’ll do that for me?" I asked, feeling the tears running down my face.
Charles nodded his head.
"Thank you," I sighed. "I’ll repay you, that’s a promise."
"Well, for now our concern is getting you settled in the academy." he said. "Logan, lead her to the empty room next to Marie’s."
Logan nodded at Charles and then looked at me.
"C’mon darlin’." he said.
As I stood, I blushed a little, but the feeling disappeared as quickly as it happened. Charles was the only one who seemed to notice my reaction. I followed Logan, and as we left, I turned around, waved and said goodnight to my new friend.
YAY!!! Logan!!! Please don't forget to rate and message!!!
