I Never Would Have Thought... A Ville Valo Love

“So what do you think?’ Lisa asked, kind of nervous.

Serj waited a minute before he gave his analysis of his performance. Lisa gulped at this silence.

“I can definitely see your style that makes your band individual and unique. You guys are more of a hard rock/ metal type, I can see, and that is great. I see that when you were playing ‘The Unthinking Majority…’”

Raye tuned out of this and laid her head back. All she was really hearing from Serj was a buncha useless drabble. “The unthinking majority of some different kind of metal and a hard rock?” was all she got out of it all. Raye looked toward Lisa who still looked nervous and waited to either be accepted into the industry or have her and the rest of the band’s dreams crushed by just a few words. Raye decided to tune back into reality.

“…so what we’ll do is sign you to this label, along with Reprise Records, and then we’ll go ahead and start recording in a month, with me as your producer, and we’ll hire the famous Andy Wallace to do the mixing of your music. (note: for those that don’t know who Andy Wallace is, he is famous for being the mixer of music such as Disturbed and HIM, I believe. And for those that don’t know what mixing is, it’s an effect used to make music sound a bit cooler… like adding sound effects and other stuff. Okay, back to the story.) Does that sound fair?” Serj said.

Lisa smiled and said, “YES! Thank you, man! This is great! The best day of my life!”

“Best day of your life so far.” Raye cut in.

Lisa laughed at this and then jumped off the stage to hug Serj and Daron in thanks. Serj took this by surprise and hugged her back. Lisa couldn’t stop saying, “Thank you so much for this! This means a lot to me!” Lisa then turned to hug Raye. “Raye, I’m so glad you came to see my dream come true!”

Raye hugged her back and said, “You’re welcome, Lisa. I’m glad you made it.”

“Okay, well you guys should take this party elsewhere, because I have another band waiting outside of here, okay?” Serj said.

“Okay,” Lisa said. Into Me and Raye left the room with their guitars. They passed by the awaiting band on their way out.

“Oh dude, this is totally awesome!” Anita kept saying.

“I know, I know…” Matt said after Anita said her repeated phrase the 658th time.

“We should celebrate or something!” Doug said.

“Yeah!” Lisa said. “We should have a party tonight! Raye you should totally come!”

“Sorry, Lisa, I have to work tonight. John, the Editor In Chief, said that he wanted to see me for something in his office.”

“Oh come on!” Lisa said. “Can’t you just ditch that place and get a real life for once?”

“Hey!” Raye said. “I know you’re against modeling and all, but this work is important to me. I’m not anorexic or anything, so let’s just keep cool.”

“I never said anything about anorexia,” Lisa said.

“I know you were thinking it, Lisa.” Raye said.

“So what if I was?” Lisa said.

Raye headed home in her own cab while Lisa and her band went out for lunch.

Raye went inside her house and was greeted by the meow of her kitten, Cloudy.

“Oh I forgot to feed you this morning didn’t I? Raye said, feeling clumsy. “Just don’t blame me, it was Lisa’s fault that I had to rush out.” She chuckled to herself and grabbed the cat food from the counter. She poured some into Cloudy’s food bowl and Cloudy happily dug in.

Raye placed the food in its place on the counter and went to check her messages.

None.

So Raye just went to read for a couple a minutes before she had to leave for the magazine.

Love stories. These were Raye’s favorite for some reason. She would cry every time she read such a story. It was because she was a hopeless romantic. Every time she was with a guy, they would always leave her a few days later. She believed that it was some sort of curse she had on her unleashed by the Mythical Goddess of Beauty and Love, Venus. What has she done to deserve such punishment? Even for just a couple of weeks would’ve been nice for Raye to be with a guy. But she’s gotten quite used to being dumped. She’s heard it all many times over.

“I’m sorry, I don’t think that we’re meant to be.”

“It’s not you, it’s me.”

“I’ve had to work so much and I don’t want to get in the way of our relationship, so I’ll have to let you go.”

“I’m sorry, but I have to move out of the country, and I don’t want to be involved in long-distance relationships, so I’m sorry, but it was nice to know you.”

At least they knew how to bring her down respectfully.

The consolations of Lisa always said, “That guy’s a jerk, you can do better if he left you like that,” or “You’re a kind and beautiful woman, Raye. Why wouldn’t any man fall for you?” It was all the same for Raye. Currently, she’s single, and quite frankly, she was sick of it. But she knew that if she entered a new relationship, it would inevitably fail. Especially since last week when Mark had to leave her.

“I’m sorry, Raye, but I realized that we clash religiously. I’m a Buddhist, and you’re a Christian, so I don’t believe that we should be together.” That was a new one. Even if it was true.

Raye shut down all this thinking, closed her book, got up, and headed out the door for work.
