Werewolf. Everyone knows what they are, or at least, they think they do. When I first found out…what I was, I was a little freaked. Okay, so I locked myself in my room for something like 2 days until I was so starving I had to come out. It was my brother who told me. My parents…well, we don’t see them much. They went on holiday when I was 8, then another, then another. They’re always in another country. This month it’s California. My brother took care of me. He was 5 years older than me at 23. He was nice, and meant the best, but he didn’t exactly know what he was doing. Besides, who wants to take care of their younger sister when they could be out with some friends picking up girls?

“Imogen!”

I sighed and got up off my bed. My room was small. The walls were a light purple, and I had a small chest of drawers on one side. My double bed took up most of the space, and there was only a little pathway from the door to the side of my bed and the front of the dresser. My brother’s room was one door down the hallway. Across from his room was the bathroom. It was inconvenient at times. He spent more time in there than I did. On the other side of my doorway, the right side, the hall opened up into the lounge room. Attached to the lounge room, separated by a breakfast bar, was the kitchen. It had cheap linoleum flooring and the old cupboards were light yellow with lime green highlights. Our house was built in the 60s or something, so the colour scheme was very bright and cheery. The front door, for example, was purple and had no lock.

“Imogen, get in here!”

I walked into the back yard, where my brother and his friends were hanging out. It was dark, and the moon was hidden behind the clouds, as well as the stars. That made it difficult to see 1 metre past the veranda, where we had fairy lights pinned up. I could barely make out the back fence, corrugated iron 2 metres high and 5 metres away. From there it was plain grass, slightly browned. There wasn’t much to see. Under the veranda, there was an old couch, a table, some deck chairs and an esky. My brother and his friends hung out here a lot, and every time they came, they added something new. This time it was a low hanging, grey hammock.

“Imogen, where were you?”

I looked at my brother. Mikael was similar to me in appearance. His jaw was stronger, and he had more angles than I did, but we had the same fit, lithe build, dark red brown hair and hazel eyes. His skin was more tanned than mine, and he was taller than me reaching 6’5” compared to my 6’1”. I smiled lightly.

“In my room, reading.”

He nodded, then turned back to his friends. There were 6 of them, only one a girl. The other girl was 27. She had beautiful straight black hair that put my wavy hair to shame, vibrant green eyes and a dark tan. Jenny was fairly built for a woman, and was only an inch taller than me.

Her boyfriend, Caleb, had his arm around the back of her seat. He was the leader of the group, at 31. He was bigger than the others, and looked similar to a body builder. Caleb had shaggy brown hair, brown eyes, and a similar toned skin to Jenny.

Next to Caleb sat a pair of twins, Jacob and James. They both had light skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. The only difference between them was the length of their hair. James had long hair that he tied back at the nape of his neck, whereas Jacob had short hair, sticking out at different angles. They were both 5’11”, which they constantly got teased about.

That left Gabriel and Charles. Gabriel, or Gabe, was paler then the rest of us, 6’7” and had a lithe build like my brother. He had long black hair that he kept similar to James, and a light shadow of stubble across his chin. His eyes were green, and he was Jenny’s brother. Charles, or Charlie, was the second largest of the group, and 6’8”. He had short brown hair, brown eyes, a light tan, and he was always smiling. Gabe and Charlie were both 22, while Jacob and James were 20.
This was our pack.
