"Moony- Oi! Madame Pince, darling, sorry- Just trying to flag him down."
Madame Pince, her vulture eyes blazing, scowled at Sirius, before
snatching up a few more books and going back to her work.
I've no idea why she always seemed to let him off so easily.
Maybe they had a deal going on that I didn't know about... Hmm-
Padfoot rushed up and steered me down a few aisles to where barely
anyone was studying.
"Why didn't you tell me you kissed Julia?" he asked quickly, then
adding, "And, why'd you do it in front of Ang? She seemed like a completely
wreck or something-"
"Woah- No- I- Julia.. Well, Julia kissed me.. and.. I just.. didn't
pull away so quickly... And, Ang walked up and.. yeah.. But- Wait, a
wreck?-"
"Yeah, yeah. Marlz brought her up here for a book on stress, and I got
her out of trouble with Pince," he muttered, waving it away with his
hand. "Now, back to matters- Why didn't you tell me that earlier? You-"
"To tell the truth... I wasn't really thinking straight just then," I
murmured.
"Ah. Yeah. True. Well, Marlene was saying-"
A cough sounded out behind me, and Sirius stopped, looking agitated. I
glanced back slowly before turning around.
"Yes?" Sirius asked, eyebrow cocked. "Is there something you need?"
Ah...
Paul.
Brilliant. Just the person I'd tried to avoid by waiting a few minutes
before heading down the hall.
"Actually, yes," he smiled politely, "Remus Lupin, is it?-" I just
stared, before nodding. "May I have a word with you?"
"No, you may not-"
"Sirius- Yes, you may," I replied softly, stepping after Paul as he
turned down the hall.
He was perfect. So polite-
But, I'm polite...
"Right. So, I was talking with Angellei today-"
Who even calls her 'Angellei'?
"-And she wasn't seeming herself."
"Yes?"
He smiled, as if he were glad I was understanding him. Such a
Slytherin... But, yet.. He was more polite-
Cunning..
Er, anyway.
"And, Angellei said to me that she was having some... problems."
My eyebrows raised slightly as I looked back at him. That was when his
polite air seemed to flutter away completely.
Aha.
"Right. Well, I'd appreciate it if you left her alone completely-"
My mouth flew open, more in disbelief of his butting in of what wasn't
even there in the first place, rather than to talk back. But, I talked
back anyway...
"Excuse me, but I don't think you have any say in the matter-"
"On the contrary," he said coldly, "I believe that I have all the right
in the world. Seeing as I'm her boyfriend. And that she's my
girlfriend- And that she's lasted longer than the others, I'd like to
watch out for her-"
"When you say 'lasted'...?" I prompted coolly.
"I mean," he drawled, seeming bored, "That she seems to interest me
more than others. And, besides, when most girls find out that I'm part
veela they freak out. Or get too touchy. She reacted just perfect. I might
actually just truly care about-"
"Might?" I whispered fiercely. "Might? You say that as if you
aren't sure. If you're her boyfriend, you should atleast have the
decency to know if you truly care about her."
"Right. Well. The whole point of this little talk was to tell you to
steer clear of dear Angellei. I'd appreciate it if you didn't speak to
her, look of her, think of her, or bother her again."
"You say that like it's a threat," I retorted, an eyebrow arched, my
voice slightly calm still. I think. Okay, so I'd like to think it was..
without care, you could say.
"Hm. You've a point. We'll say that it is," he smiled coolly.
"And, you do realize you're saying this to a Prefect?" I asked
politely.
"Yes. Well, you know, I could say the same, but I'd rather not.
Considering I turned down the position-"
"You can't do that-"
"Oh, but I did. Slughorn positively loves my Mum. And me. And, well, my
father, as well. Hopefully, I won't be seeing you around. Or around
Angellei-"
"Ang," I interrupted coldly. "Not like I really care, anyway. Don't
worry. You can call her whatever you wish, seeing as you're her-" I hated
saying it. "-boyfriend."
And with that, he gave me a tart smirk, and strode off.
Too bad I did care. Not to worry...
"The prat-"
"Sirius, shut up."
"No, because if Moony won't speak up about that little wannabe, then I
will-"
"Padfoot... I won't listen to him..."
"Good, because-"
"But, I will listen to Ang..."
"Yeah, well," Sirius muttered through the dark. I heard him turn over
in the dark. "But-"
"Sirius! Would you shut up?! It's nearly five, and you're making it to
where I can't go back to sleep," James spoke up, "It's bad enough that
we had Peter's snoring wake us up a half hour ago, now, I don't want to
have to listen to you drone on."
"Pff, you'll be okay. In a little over a week you won't have to deal
with us anymore... And, I'm pretty sure Lily doesn't snore."
I laughed lightly. Before the grin from my laugh faded.
Hogwarts. The first place that I was accepted at. And, I'd be leaving
it... Where was I going to get work? No one wanted a werewolf... And,
living...
And, as if Sirius could read my mind, he spoke up.
"Hey, Moony?"
"Yeah..?"
"I need a roomie."
I laughed lightly. "I already am your roomie, Padfoot."
"No."
"Alright, then. We'll pretend I haven't been sleeping in the same room
as you for the past seven years."
"No, I mean, once we leave. Do you.. y'know.. wanna come live with me
in the place I have set up?"
"Wow.. erm, what about Peter?"
"I dunno. He's going off somewhere, didn't mention it. Right. So, you
in or out?"
"In. Definitely. Thank-"
"No thanks. I just need someone to make sure I don't get bored," he
drawled.
I laughed. "Right."
"Okay, enough of that. G'night. I can already hear Prongs muttering in
his sleep about Lily. Dunno if she'll like that when they move in
together..."
I laid there for a few moments, thinking of what had happened only the
day before, and what had just happened then.
Well, I'd gone to bed early, after being drilled by James and all...
I'd had plenty of sleep. So what if I'd been awoken by Peter's strangled
yell through the pillow that James charmed to attack him when his
snoring became unbearable to his own ears. Yeah, I had plenty of sleep that
night. And, besides, I was wide awake. There was no way I was going to
get back to sleep now.
I quickly changed into some clothes for the day, and decided to just
take a seat in my chair in the Common Room, and fully wake up. I could
think about the N.E.W.T. I had that day.
And sharing a place with Sirius.
And Ang-
No. I wasn't supposed to think about her. But, no, I wasn't listening
to Paul. I was listening to Ang.
Yeah.
And-
Who... was in my chair-
My breath stopped, as I carefully came down the stairs, stopping before
her.. sorta. But, she was in my chair-
"Hullo, Ang."
I realized I was staring.
And, well, that I'd said that out loud.
Stupid, stupid Remus. I briskly turned away from her. "Sorry."
"Sorry? Why?"
Er... Well, you made it quite clear that you hated me...
"You said... before.. not to talk to you..." I muttered, still turned
away from her.
"Oh- look- about that- I didn't mean-"
"No. Your boyfriend spoke to me about it."
Boyfriend. Yeah.
"He was- joking-" she replied.
Slowly, I turned around, daring a quick glance at her, before whipping
my head back around. You couldn't blame me.. It was hard not doing so.
And, well, y'know.. She was wearing a singlet and these really small
shorts- No. I wasn't going to look at her... Really.
"Yeah. Right," I said softly, nodding slightly.
"For Merlin's sake, Remus, haven't we been over the whole 'look at me'
thing already?"
It seemed so familiar. It was nice.
I turned around, smiling. Then, I dropped my smile and my eyes,
resisting the urge to whack myself in the forehead for the whole thinking,
looking, speaking to her thing.. Even though she'd practically told me..
Well..
And, you know, when you drop your eyes, you don't really have anywhere
to look.. So, no one can blame me for my eyes landing on Ang's legs.
Which, didn't have but about two bruises.. And, yeah..
"Just... look, forget whatever Paul said to you, or did to you, or
whatever, he just- would you kindly stop looking at my legs? I know
they're
horrible and all, but there's no need to stare."
I looked up swiftly, hoping that I wasn't turning red. "Oh- uh- sorry-
I mean- you have nice legs- but- wait- no-"
It was all coming out wrong, and by now, I was positive there was a
blush creeping across my face. There was no doubt about it.
Her gaze shifted to the fireplace.
Ughhh. I was so hoping at that moment that I would get better with
stuff like that later on. My legs led me to a chair a few metres away, eyes
staring into the fire just like she was doing.
I could barely stand the silence. Besides, I wanted to know-
"So- er- Well, I- Uhm," I stammered, glancing around the room. When I
