"Ms. Mathews, get up." our maid Annie tells me. I groan and pull the pillow over my head. I don't wanna get up. Annie rips the pillow out of my hands along with the covers. It feels so cold. I open my eyes. Of course it does. I'm only wearing a long shirt. I jump out of bed.
"Annie." I complain. Annie's new. She just started working here about three weeks ago. She's also my age so we've kind of become close.
"Alyssa." she mocks. I growl, but she just stares back at me. I sigh and give up. No point in arguing. I walk over to my closet. I'm rich so that means I have this whole huge amount of space to myself and my clothes. I decide on wearing my fave green and black striped halter top and a pair of ripped jeans. I hop into one of my many pairs of converse. I'm a converse girl for life. I walk out and throw my long black hair into a ponytail, add a bit of makeup to my face and thank Annie. She's making my bed.
I glide downstairs and wizz past my brother, Danny. Danny is only 11. He's short and has cropped black hair on the top of his head. I stumble towards the kitchen, passing the living room on the way. Mom is on the couch, reading a book and Dad is on the phone, looking all serious. My dad never jokes around when he works. He's serious almost all the time. It takes him around half an hour after work to become not seroius.
I walk over to the island in the kitchen and slide on to one of the stools. Our butler, Gregory, is standing there. When he sees me he pours me a glass of milk and pulls a muffin from the cupboard. He knows the usual. Its always a surprise what muffin I get. He always makes it a mystery.
"Thanks Greg." I say, smiling and stuffing the muffin in my mouth. I also gulp down my milk real fast and put my empty cup in the sink. I decide to go over to Secilia's house. She's my best friend. I rush down the hall to the front door and grab my keys off of the hook that's next to it. I open the door and see some people coming up the drive.
I rush into the living room, forgetting about the keys in my hand. I think I dropped them by the door when I shut it. Mom looks up and so does dad. He's not on his cell anymore and instead was talking to mom about something.
"Someone's here." I explain."Some people that I've never seen before." My father smiles and looks at my mother, giveing her the 'don't worry' look. My mother smiles. I think they know the people that are coming in. The doorbell rings and I run back dow nthe hall. I quickly put my keys back on the hook and open the door.
"Hello Alyssa." the woman standing there says."We've heard so much about you." Standing there is a mand and a boy that looks to be my age. Did I mention, I'm fifteen.
"Hello?" I kind of question. Gregory comes up behind me and smiles politely. I see it in the way he smiles that he too has no idea who these people are. They walk in the boy looking at me slightly. I give him the 'f.uck off.' look and he turns his head away, grimacing.
Gregory leads them to the living room, where my mother and father are. I walk behind them and enter the living room too. I quickly take my spot next to my parents and I see my brother walk by.
"Oh, Danny." I say. He stops short and turns around. Everyone is now looking at him. My mother gives him the 'get over here now' look and he obeys. He walks over and takes his place next to me.
"Shawn, why you've gotten so big." my father says."Do you remember Alyssa?" he asks, smiling. Shawn shakes his head no.
"Alyssa, do you remember Shawn and the fun you two used to have when you were little?" my mother asks me. I just look over at her with a 'say what?' look. She sighs.
"They don't remember." she explains."They don't remmeber each other at all." We both look at her like she's nuts.
"Remember what mom?" I question. She just shakes her head in a 'nevermind' way.
"Honey, when you two were little you used to have so much fun together. You couldn't wait until you two could see each other." she explains."You were so happy together. We could not bear to seperate you but we had to.You had to start school and his family couldn't stay in this town. Mary lost her job and Steve earned very little. They had to move away. Before they left thoough we made an arrangement."
"Mom, get to the point." I say, exasperated. She sighs and blushes.
"Well uh, um Honey." she tries to say. "We um, well we uh." my father cuts her off.
"Darling, what your mother is trying to say is that we arranged for you two to get married when they could afford to move back. And, well they're back." he says. Did I mention I'm only fifteen. I get up angrily and feel my feet fall out from underneath me. And cue the faint.
