Crimson Tears:1
Chapter 5 : Crimson Tears:7
7:
“Hey there, Aiden.” I said happily.
“Oh, hey, Kat.” He looked at me and grinned. I grinned back. We just stared at each other for a while until he burst out with saying, “What’s it like around them?” I rolled my eyes, “If by them you mean the Cullens, they’re really awesome. You know they adopted me, right?” He blinked and took that in, “Yeah.” I looked at him and the next words were a rush, “Actually, I don’t know WHERE I’d be if they HADN’T. I wonder why everyone’s so scared of them.” Of course, I thought, they have reason…a very good reason. He laughed awkwardly, “I’m glad they did. I’m sorry, I was just curious. They’re always by themselves. Nobody really knows anything about them.” I shrugged. “Yeah.” He leaned in closer, “Hey, am I forgiven?” My eyes blazed. Much too close. He was much too close. The electricity increased between us. Could I?
I bit my lip and pulled away slowly. He stared at me, and cocked his head. “What’s wrong?” I turned and left the room. I ran down the hallway and crashed…right into Edward. He paused got up slowly. I knew from the look on his face that he knew what happened. “How…” He frowned, “I can read minds. It’s my gift.” I looked at him. “I’m so sorry, Edward. I don’t know. I’ve never felt a thirst so huge…” He half-smiled. “I took the liberty of telling the office that you are to leave early with me today. I think you deserve a break.” I nodded but didn’t say a word. He led me to the Volvo parked outside. I got in without a word. He paused then said, “Every once in a while, a vampire (smirk) encounters a mortal whose blood appears to “sing” to them.” He paused, “One of the Volturi told me that. I’m curious…” I blinked, “As to what?” He stared at me, “What is your relationship with Aiden?” I bit my lip wanting to tell him it was nothing. “I’m not sure.” I admitted. He paused, “I suggest you get that cleared up.” Then he frowned, “At the same time, I can’t allow you to endanger our family if you are so weak. Forgive me for insulting you, Kat, but you’re becoming a danger to us.” I blinked back tears. “Are you telling me to leave?” He turned away. “Kat, I don’t want you to leave. I want you to figure out what you want…and how much you’re willing to get it.”
Edward drove me home, silently. He wasn’t angry…just giving me time to think. I wanted Aiden. Heaven knows what I’d do if he weren’t a mortal. He was just so breakable. Sure, he was probably a strong fellow in his own right but I could crush his skull only wanting to stroke his face. My thoughts ran in circles until I came to a conclusion that I could not make a decision and stick to it. Edward turned to me smiling vaguely as if he knew something I didn’t. “What?”
“I suppose I should give you fair warning. *smirk* I can read your thoughts and they’re blatantly loud when you’re thinking so animatedly.” I gasped slightly then turned away. “That’s a cool trick.”
