Ben and Sara were lying down on the grass in the park, in the distance there was Will’s gang walking over, there were kids playing in the children’s area, Sara was smiling broadly and Ben was hugging her tightly, they were both content, “hey Ben” says Will “hey Will, what’s up?” “Nothing thanks how are you two?” “Were good thanks” says Sara “good” Will answers “so Sara did Ben tell you his secret?” asks Matt “what secret” Sara asks “well your-“ Ben cuts him off “shut up Matt” he says sharply “no go on Matt” Sara says reassuringly “Ben was in-“ Matt couldn’t finish his sentence Ben had hit him in his jaw, none of the other boys moved “I told you to shut up, with your rumours” Ben spits “it isn’t a rumour Benny boy it’s all true, go on tell her that you were there, the night that Chloe died, tell her that you killed her best friend” Sara just stared at Ben wide eyed “I didn’t kill her! I tried to save her! Will pushed her, not me. And none of you helped me, I didn’t know who she was yet I was the only one who tried to save her” he turns to Sara “baby believe me I tried…I really did” Sara ran, she didn’t care where he ran as long as she wasn’t near them.
After half an hour of aimless walking Sara ended up at the creek, she sat near to the place where everyone placed flowers every year to pay their respects to the girl who ‘killed herself’ Sara drew her knees up to her chest, placed her head into her knees and cried, she cried for Chloe, for Ben and most of all for Jake.
“Hey Jake man Sara’s ran off do you know where she’ll be?” asks Ben “the creek” Jake replies “thanks man” “anytime, hey Ben I’ll meet you at the creek” “ok man see you soon” Ben said before he put the phone down, he grabbed his coat and headed off to the creek.
Sara was still crying when Ben came he walked up to her, sat next to her and put his arm around his fiancé, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, I was scared that you’d think that I didn’t help her or even care” he says Sara stands up “Ben I don’t want to hear your excuses” she says. Ben took a step towards her and she took one back, Jake ran up to them, “have you told Jake?” She asks Ben “he was there, he tried to help me but the guys held him back they wanted to make him suffer, for Paul” Ben explains taking one step towards her, Sara takes another back. Ben looks at her feet and she Is dangerously close to the edge “Sara, please come here” he pleads “no, Ben” she says shaking her head, Ben moves closer and just as Sara steps back the edge of the creek crumbles below her heel, Sara falls screaming, Ben dives and grabs her arm, seeing Sara in the same place as Chloe and seeing her crying makes him cry, he holds on with both hands, but his hands are sweaty “don’t let go Sara, don’t let go!” he pleads. Jake is stood there staring not knowing what to do, “I love you Ben, I really do” Sara whimpers. Ben’s hands become too sweaty and Sara slips out of his grip, she starts falling and Jake grabs her hand just before it’s too late, “hold on Sara, I’ve got you” Jake says reassuringly Ben grips onto Sara’s arm and they both pull her up onto safe ground, Ben hugs Sara rocking her “I’m sorry baby, I’m so, so sorry” he repeats over and over again Sara is crying into his arms but knows that she is safe.
