The kitten mewed in the spy’s arms. He had planned this strategically, knowing that his daughter wouldn’t listen to him and would go to work. It was sleeping in his hand; the kitten was very small and just seemed to be a small ball of fluff with huge green eyes and a gentle nature.

William went to the door on the left and knocked twice. Sometimes he even surprised himself at his own genius. He heard footsteps behind the door, then the unlatching of locks. The burnet from last night opened the door, his hair was sticking up in all directions and square glasses were askew on his nose. William almost agreed with the twin, his clothes were very unmatched.

“Hi, I’m William Rouph.” William smiled at the boy.

“Hello.” Derek smiled back. “I’m Derek Knight.”

“Nice to meet you.” William nodded. “Erm, my daughter Sarah lives next door. She went to work and locked me out and I was wondering if you might be able to do me a favor.”

“Sure.” The guy agreed before even knowing what the favor was.

“See, I have to catch plane in like fifteen minutes- otherwise I’d do it.” William plan was coming together. “Could you give her this? I think she comes home about six.” William asked politely holding out the ball of fluff that was still sleeping in his hand. The spy watched his reaction hoping that he wasn’t allergic to cats.

“Sure no problem.” Derek smiled gently scoping the kitten into his hand.

“Thank you so much.” William almost sighed in relief. “And Sarah, well she isn’t very social- at all, so don’t get offended of she doesn’t talk to you very much.” The guy named Derek nodded.

“I’ve noticed. Why is that?” The burnet asked petting the kitten.

“Don’t tell her I told you this.” William leaned towards the boy. “In high school she was- a bit, well a lot nerdy. Kids made fun of her and she just didn’t have any friends.” William only half lied, Sarah was nerdy but she had been well liked at her school.

“I know how that is.” Derek chuckled to himself, if the twins hadn’t befriended him, he’d have no friends.

“Well I gotta go before I miss my flight, thank you so much.” William smiled walking towards to elevators. The burnet named Derek smiled after the man and then walked into his kitchen to pour the kitten some milk.

Complete and utter boredom.

The weather wasn’t hot, the wind wasn’t cold, and the sun didn’t warm her face as she passed the window.

Her laptop held no interest, her books she had finished earlier lay on the floor no longer holding any color to her.

Sarah’s legs were twitching from lack of movement and her thoughts were as unfocused as her vision. She pushed her glasses back to her blue eyes and glared at the walls.

She wasn’t hungry, she wasn’t thirsty.

Sarah did not want to watch tv.

Even the lint on her shirt didn’t hold any interest to the black haired beauty.

She was bored.

Her ears perked at the small scraping sound of the door across the hall opening.

What was his name? He had been living there even before Sarah and she still didn’t know his name.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Sarah’s heart stopped at the dooming sound. Her eyes watered and her palms got sweaty, usually Darrel didn’t come again for a couple of days. She waited for his drunken voice to bellow but when he didn’t yell she glanced at the door uncertainly.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

No yelling.

Why wasn’t he screaming?

Sarah made her way carefully and quietly to the door and looked out the peep hole. A green distorted eye stared back.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

She opened the door and in her door way stood her next door neighbor holding a white kitten with big green eyes.

“Erm, Hi.” He smiled waving awkwardly. Sarah was no longer bored.

“Hi.”

“I’m Derek. I live across the hall.” Derek stated looking at the girl, she was very pretty.

“I’m Sarah Rouph, I live- well, I live here.” Sarah mentally slapped herself for that oh-so witty retort. His full lips smiled and he held out the kitten.
