"I was bored," I answered to the Admiral'sharsh words.
"That is no excuse for blowing up one of the ships!" He screamed at me. "Tie her up on the rafters! And give her 50 lashes."
I glanced up at this. 50 lashes. Wonder which whip they'll use. This could get interesting.
While on board the ship I found out that Yang, my 'twin', my 'oppisit', was on the ship. We had a run in. And It wasn't pretty.
Looking out over the sea,I stood at the bow of the boat. Gazing at the beauty of all ofmy suroundingsI lost track of time, sound, and whereI was.
"Yin," He spoke as he walked into my life for the first time.
"Yang." I jumped on to the railing of the boat. Tossing an apple my way he joined me. I pulled a knife from my boot.
"Mastered both elements yet?"
"Fire eludes me, how goes the air bending?" I almost laughed as I said this. We were having a civilized conversation. Yin and Yang. Light and Dark. Day and Night. Every oppisit in the world. Thats what we were to each other.
And our destiny was to fight. Not circle each other and balance. No, we were created for one purpose. To destroy each other. Holding us on a ship together was only maddening to us.
It was foretold that a Female Child from the Water Tribes would be born, and she would be able to control two elements. Water, and its Oppisit.
Fire.
And A Male, from the Earth Kingdom would control both Earth and Air.
The Avatar was not the last Air bender. No, Yang was also. But he needed Aang to teach him. As I needed a Fire bender.
"I heard that your cousins are traveling with the Avatar." He bit into the apple. I turned on the spot. Knife still in hand. My apple untouched.
"Yes, my cousins are traveling with the Avatar. What of it?"
"So where are they?"
"Probably in my home city."
As I jumped from the railing I heard something in the distance. As I looked up, I could have sworn that I saw an Image of my sister. Lily, named after the Fire Lily. A flower found only in the Fire Nation. She was named that to remind me of my mission.
"Ireth! You heard me! Answer me!"
"I will not betray my family like that!"
"Their distant cousins! Its not big deal!"
"Get away from me! Don't tell me that you thought I didn't know! Your in league with the Fire Nation! Get information out of me that you would need for your own gain! Like where the Avatar is! And then Sell it to the Fire Nation! I heard you and the Admiral talking! I will not betray my people like that!"
"If you won't tell me. I'll force it out of you!"
"I'd like to see you try. You can't metal bend can you? But look at where we are. In the middle of the sea. You think it wise to duel me here?"
A look came over his face. This was how it begun.
One of us would die, and the other, become a second Avatar.
I was brought out of my daze when my door slammed open. And there stood a man. A whip in hand.
"50 lashes here I come." I whispered. Two more men entered the room. They were going to take me by force. I got up and walked out before they could touch me. I would walk to my punishment of my own power, and walk out of my own power.
As I walked on deck I realized that two large poles had been stood up in the center. Chains hung from them.
"Lets get this over with."
I walked to the poles. I took the spread eagle position. I was ready for anything.
I watched as the Admiral walked past me. And then in front of me again.
"Are you ready for you lashes?"
"Bring on your leather whip, I ready."
"Who said it was leather?" And then. My punishment hit me in the face. It was a fire whip.
The pain hit me first in the back. Spreading up through my limbs. I held back a scream that ripped through my throat. It came out as a strangled grugle. The pain came over and over again.
It felt like everything that was apart of me was on fire.
And it was.
I could feel the flames spreading across my back as the fire whip bit into my skin. Leaving welts at first. And then as they came harder and faster they began to leave small trails of blood behind.
Then the gashing wounds came.
I was determined not to scream. But that plan failed miserably. My entire back was on fire and there was nothingI could do.
"KOORI!" I screamed. My spirit guide. A large artic wolf. He was also my companion. My friend.
The boat tipped as paws large as a clidesdale (huge horse, it has hoofs the size of platters)
A howl ripped through the air as the water swirled around me. Putting out the flames.
"Koori!" Water flowed through the chains, turning to ice, breaking them. Shattering them forever.
Koori gathered me in his mouth. His jaws gently cradling me.
"Northern Water Tribe My Love," I whispered as he took to the water.
