don’t complain to me." you say while looking out the window. You take a cookie and put it in your mouth not biting on it yet and take the basket “would you like some miss?” you ask the woman seated across. “Its Klaud Nine and yes, thank you.” She takes some random sweet and eats half of it giving the other half to her little monkey. Kotarou soon falls asleep and you’re left just looking out the window in the stiff awkward silence. Its turned night and you can feel your body heavy from sitting so long. As soon as you try and drift off to sleep the train comes to a halt screeching as the metal grinds when the brakes are commanded to stop the train. Kotarou wakes up and rubs his eyes yawning. You stand up and stretch to help Kotarou up too and follow Klaud out of the compartment and out of the empty train. Everybody must have left off on another stop some time, you thought as you hop down the steps with Kotarou as your shadow. “Me and the finder will take your luggage while you and your brother make your way up the mountain.” She indicates to the large ominous cliff up ahead. You twitch and laugh nervously, “sure...” and take your little brother’s hand leadinghimto the edge of the cliff where the stone touches the ground. You sigh “Kotarou climb on my back I’ll start climbing up.” He does as he is told with reluctance. You start off on your long climb, stone by stone looking for ledges to possibly rest but failing to find any you continue onward. As you look for ledges to hoist yourself up on you hear beating of wings. “Its just bats,” your little brother tells you whispering as not to startle you. Sweat trickles down the side of your face making it itch. None the less you continue onward your breathe coming in pants and your arms and legs feeling heavy like lead. “Are you okay?” came your little brother’s voice. “I’m fine, I won’t drop you.” You say barely audible through your desperate pants for breathe. I nearly died before I think I can will myself to carry on this cliff…. As you climb onward your feel warmth brake from your finger tips and stinging terribly as dirt seems to get in the cuts. In an attempt to keep pushing forward you bite your lip. As you climb upward more blood comes out freely and makes it difficult not to slip. And as if your worst fears come true your little brother slips off as you’re nearly seeing the top. “Shit,” you say under your breathe and jump down yourself, pushing off the cliff stone surface to gain speed to catch him in your arms. He clings to you for his own dear life, covering his face in your shoulder, as you come to an abrupt stop in mid-air. You hold him tightly in your arms and wipe your hands on your shorts as to try and not get as much blood on him. “I’m so sorry I nearly let you die!” you say on the brink of tears. “No, I was getting tired of holding and you did so much climbing your hands are bleeding.” He says sadly feeling guilty that he was the cause for your bleeding fingers. You smile at him weakly and get back to the matter at hand. You both look down and stare at a single string holding you up. At sudden shock you nearly fall but keep your balance. “Haruhi your eye is scary.” he mumbles. “Hmm?” you go up to touch your eye but refraining from doing so because it isn’t vital at this moment as long as you can see through it. “I guess we should continue up, ne? Hold on tight ‘Tarou” You say scrunching down a bit getting ready to jump. You shoot up quickly and without error you keep your pattern of steady jump, land, jump, land till you reach the top of the cliff. You set Kotarou down and take his hand in yours as you two hike up to the dark looking castle. “I can see why they call it the Black Order.” you state more to yourself as the two of you make it up to the front sturdy stone doors your brother’s hand slips out of yours from the blood. There embedded onto the sturdy doors was a large carved stone face that resembled a tiki face from tropical islands. Its eyes moved down to the two forms that belonged to you and your brother. ”Beginning examination!!” it thundered as its eyes nearly popped out of its head to examine the two of you. You held ‘tarou protectively while being examined yourself. “Clear!” it boomed again as it returned back into its normal state. The doors ground open slowly and blinding light shown through. You gathered your courage and stepped through as your eyes adjusted to the sudden light change. There standing in front of you was a girl who was as tall as you with long black hair held up on each side of her head and holding a clipboard. You walked up to her with your brother at your side as always. She gave you a smile “Hello,” she greeted kindly. “Hello.” You reply waving with one hand and your other hand in Kotarou’s. She’s startled slightly staring at your hand “What happened?” she asks. “Just climbing.” You point back to the edge of the cliff with your thumb. “I guess I could get someone to help with that, meanwhile please follow me.” She leads the two of you off as you keep a tight grip on Kotarou’s fingers so he doesn’t get lost. Walking the halls you bring up a hand to brush out your hair to look the least bit presentable. Forgetting your hands are covered in blood you run your fingers through your long white hair held up by a ribbon. You kept your right eye closed the entire time and rubbed away some sweat with your shirt.
Your brothers had stayed silent the entire time. They were practically the ones that had brought you up to be the tough girl you are today whether it was from wrestling in the mud to teaching you all about what guys expect and their 'rules'. They never left you out of anything. They especially taught you valuable emotional lessons, whether they knew it or not, the way guys are of course they would get angry easily at you for messing something up or blame you even if it wasn’t your fault because after all you were a girl, but really in the end you grew a large capacity to forgive almost anything. The eldest,Romano, held you sternly examining you closely,” promise to write...or else," it was more of a threat then anything but you knew it was light hearted. You nodded your head slightly stunned.
"I promise you didn't even have to 'threat'" you say to him with your hands held open to him in a giving up gesture.
"At least you'll be traveling all around Europe and maybe other places foreign like India or China. You'll be like from one of those fantasy books you always read." The third eldest, Eric, hadsuggested with half a smile as him being the optimistic one.
"I guess your right. I should make the best of this."
"Now, now come along my children we have to get you packed so you don't forget anything." your mother smiled as if she were to brake down crying any second. It seemed she would always force herself to smile these days and it was painful to look at. You slumped to your room and pulled out a large trunk and two medium sized suitcases.Packing anything that was really needed and you didn't have to make any hard decisions since you weren't spoiled with to many things. As you packed two dresses, a dress shirt, two shorts, some tight jeans, pj pants and shorts, pj long sleeve and short sleeves, leggings, gloves, several pairs of stockings, and under clothes such as all that stuff. After that you helped your brother pack his suitcase with his clothes. In the last suitcase you squished in small possessions: Kotarou's stuffed animal, family picture, study books, quills, and ink bottles shaped like apples and birds.
All four brothers came into the room carrying things with them for you to always remember them by. From oldest to youngest they each stepped up and gave you gifts. First gave you a blade sharp to the touch with small flowers etched into the handle. The second handed you an herbal study guide book, third gave you a notebook filled with all of his collected sketches, and fourth gave you a basket filled with some sweet smelling foods. Each of them smiled except for the eldest since he was always serious. Your brothers all different and had different interests that they passed for you hoping you'd take on theirs.
"Thanks you guys," you smiled. Weeping Kotarou walks in holding your mother's hand and comes to your side. You put the objects into the suitcase carefully and hold the basket in your hands, bind the two suitcases together securely so they don’t come undone. The last two hours with your family past by in minutes as you divided the time equally so they could say their last goodbyes to you. You sat out on the front porch with Kotarou chasing after some butterfly and the cases resting against the wall.
In the distance you see the woman from before with a small monkey on her shoulder walking up the street your house was built on the side of. Your brother stopped and returned to your side. He picked up his case and you rolled along your two cases down the street to meet up with the woman. She looked at the two of you and then turned around, expecting you to follow her, which you did. The three of you walked to the train station and awaited its arrival. When it stopped the woman led you and your brother to a first class compartment. A man in uniform, a finder she had informed you that was stationed in your area, took your luggage but you kept your basket. The three of you sat in silence for a while.
"I'm hungry," cries Kotarou from your left seated near the window. You sigh and pull out the basket to uncover it and reveal pastries and milk.
"Here," you handed the basket to him as he stuffed his face with what little he could consume. "If you get sick ![]()
